In this film we document our epic journey through the South Pacific, showing all of the highlights in 8 different countries from Panama, and across to Galapagos, French Polynesia and Tonga, then all the way down to New Zealand, before sailing up to Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia! It was the journey of a lifetime, and one that I would highly recommend to anyone with a keen sense of adventure, whether it's on your own boat or someone else's! Thanks to the SPSN (South Pacific Sailing Network) for motivating us to make this documentary, to showcase what an unbelievable cruising ground the South Pacific is. And to everyone else who contributed footage to make this monster of a movie, including Harbors Unknown and Sailing NV. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across through Asia headed for the Indian Ocean!! Every summer as Kirk was growing up, his family would visit Charlevoix, a quaint vacation town located on a skinny isthmus between Round Lake and Lake Michigan. Round Lake was a boating mecca; all sorts of craft paraded across its waters, waiting for the fuel dock, or a city marina slip, heading to and from the private residential docks, or passing through en route to Lake Charlevoix or Lake Michigan. As a kid walking the marina docks, Kirk would wonder about the lives of the boat owners. What do they do? Where are they coming from, where are they going to? The idea that a boat could leave Round Lake for Lake Michigan, and then travel anywhere in the world was exhilarating. Kirk dreamed one day he would sail his own boat to Charlevoix. In this episode we spend our first night ever at anchor, at South Manitou Island. the winds are higher than we would’ve liked, and we worry about the anchor dragging. Kirk endures a mostly sleepless night, because he worries more than me. From South Manitou we sail to Leland, where we meet up again with Kirk’s dad. The three of us explore Fishtown, a cluster of old fishing shanties — a window into Michigan’s commercial fishing history. And then… Kirk achieves his childhood dream. We depart Leland, hug the Leelenau Peninsula, pass Grand Traverse Bay, and join a line of boats in the Round Lake Channel. We pass through the drawbridge, and find ourselves in bustling Round Lake, among classic wooden boats, harbor boats, cabin cruisers, trawlers, pontoons. We have arrived in Charlevoix, on our very own sailboat. Kirk is pretty darn stoked. Hope you enjoy! Lauren & Kirk P.S. I am Bonita the boss, Yosh is the Captain, Marley is the hound and Tallula is our beautiful new baby daughter. We have been living on our boat Nandji for nearly 5 years. We first departed Australia in July 2017 with big dreams of sailing offshore. We soon discovered this was the way of life we wanted and the further we sailed, the further we want to go! We have visited some amazing countries, shared some breath taking experiences and had some real struggles along the way. The highs of sailing are escalated to the most ecstatic feeling, but the lows feel like our world has just ended. I guess this is why we keep coming back for more! Our family has grown by one since our sailing life begun. We now have our little daughter joining in the adventure. We are excited to keep the journey going and teach our little mermaid the ropes. The Bali Catamaran foredeck, in our opinion, is a great feature. During our Atlantic Crossing after we picked her up in France, we remained dry in virtually every condition and did not experience any excessive slamming. The structure is very solid, is nice and stiff, and the boat is very quiet with little to no creaking. Video goes over safety, functionality, differences from nets on these Bali Catamarans and more! After a very easy overnight sail we are rewarded by seeing waves breaking on the outer reefs. We meander through but there is a problem... we have to stop. I recall its been more than 2 months since I have eaten fresh fish so in I go to see what there is to offer... Cuba does not disappoint people. Afterwards we head to a safe anchorage at a place called Cayo Campos. We are immediately invited over for dinner by the locals. They are having turtle which Margarida has never had before so she is keen to try it. Cayo Campos we are here to stay! Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! This week after a little bit of fiddling about I finally get to install Athena's new 5kW alternator. Although we won't be able to get the full 5kW we should be able to get around 4kW - not too shabby! We'll get back to the external regulator for the alternator next week :) Ava does a ton of organizing in the forward cabin. @boatfools #buyingstrategies #usedsailboats #boatbuying #boatsforsale #sailboat #sailing #boatbroker #boatsellers WE HAVE AN IMPORTANT UPDATE TO THIS VIDEO: NOT EVERYTHING WAS AS IT SEEMED ! THE SELLER WAS UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE WHEN HE BOUGHT THE BOAT THE PREVIOUS YEAR. When the boat was hauled a year ago (when this video was aired), the issue was discovered and the keel was removed, reattached, and floor joist was fixed. The issue has been resolved and the boat has sold. It appears he was given misinformation when he originally bought the boat. At the end of the day, the key point is to have a proper survey conducted on any boat that you might be seriously considering buying. Do not take shortcuts here! 09/28/2024. ANATOMY OF A SAILBOAT SCAM delves into a recent experience a friend of mine and I had. He's in the market for a new used sailboat. His old Ericson 35 finally gave up the ghost and he's in the market to find another one. The first Ericson 35 he found didn't receive a favorable survey. Then we looked at an Ericson 32-3 that I found him on Craigslist. It looked like it was going to be the perfect boat - heck, even the description said it was in excellent condition and meticulously maintained...What could possibly be wrong with it? Right? Right... Watch and learn how sellers and brokers will go to great lengths to not only get you to look at a boat, but also buy a boat that is NOT what it appears. The lesson learned: ALWAYS go with a wing man to look at a boat you're interested in AND always get a survey if the purchase price point warrants it. ANATOMY OF A SAILBOAT SCAM is intended to inform you and help you as you move toward what could be a huge financial investment. You do not want to buy a lemon - or be scammed into something that is not what it appears to be. So, I as I always say, Trust but Verify. Just because an ad says a boat is in "excellent condition" - do NOT believe it until you see it - and see all of it. This is a cautionary tale! Enjoy.
For the full written captain’s report, test and performance data, and more about the Nitro Z18 video, go to: http://www.boattest.com/review/nitro/3766_z18-(w--mercury-150-hp-pro-xs) Nitro says the previous versions of the Z18 are the best-selling fiberglass bass boats, so it would be easy to understand if the manufacturer didn’t want to make changes. But Nitro has upgraded the official boat of Major League Fishing with an angled flush bow fishfinder panel, more leg room under the helm console and integrated net storage abaft the seats. The boat, motor and trailer remain among the most complete turn-key bass packages available.

#sailingvideo #sailingblog My New Music channel ’Seadog music’ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkjayyjK3MjCXbevrQRMDCw Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. Don't forget to click the bell next to the subscribe button to notify you of every new episode, that way you’ll never miss an adventure!! As our videos tend to run behind time, our FACEBOOK page ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ has ‘realtime’ up-dates and news so you can keep up to date. Please ‘like’ on https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ If you’d like to help the Old Seadog Please checkout our Patreon page on the link below. https://www.patreon.com/Adventuresofanoldseadog Contributions to the project can be made at paypal.me/seadogadventures Instagram https://www.instagram.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. I will also show you each of the features on our boat that Phillip and I believe make it a great cruising vessel from engine access to battery maintenance to the sump box and more. If any of you out there are boat-shopping right now, I hope this video will help you understand why Phillip and I chose the boat we did and what features and systems you may want to look for in a good cruising boat. If you want to know more about any of the upgrades or modifications we made that you see, be sure to go to the blog and do a search for it at https://havewindwilltravel.com.

Turn on Captions for Malay Subtitles. SEASON 4 Episode 14 From Germany, Rada & Henning shipped their #RussianCampervan over to Malaysia and intend on driving it back to Germany via Tibet. Check out their UAZ 452 Bukhanka #VanTour!! It was Rada and Henning's first month in Malaysia and they had just got their UAZ so their camper was quite disorganised at the time we shot it, their roof rack was not yet ready and they really had not had any time sleeping and trying out their camper. They had just built the interior a month before arriving in Malaysia. Everything was a big mad rush for them. They are now happily touring Vietnam and enjoying their Asian adventures.
We have a 1967 Bristol 27 sailboat for sale this week - designed by Carl Alberg. It has a Monitor Windvane steering system, a really nice/solid dinghy, and an AIS-equipped radio as nice bonuses for a classic sailboat. A young man graduated from high school and decided he wanted to take a year off and take this classic sailboat and go solo sailing. He took the Bristol 27 and sailed it from Massachusetts to the Caribbean and back over a 9-month period. At $6,000, It's a really fair price given the additional equipment. She needs a little love but you'd be getting a lot for your money here. ======= CAPT Q MERCH ===== https://www.etsy.com/shop/CaptainQYachtHunter ============== Support us ============== Like what we're doing & want to help?? It's almost 900 nautical miles from Panama to the Galapagos, there can be huge ocean currents (we had 4 knots with us at one stage then mostly 2 against us the rest of the way), you have to cross the infamous doldrums, there are frequent squalls of torrential rain, massive fish to be caught plus the momentous countdown from North to South as we cross the equator and are transformed by nautical folklore from pollywogs to proper shellbacks! We risk putting up our unicorn sail - the genneka who we have ripped 4 times to date. We also land a giant mahi, see whales, and are visited by the famous red footed boobie. All in all it's an action packed 6 day passage to arrive at the fabulous Galapagos islands. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.
Join us for some island hopping and lion fish hunting, then we pick up our friends Megan and Kelly who are joining the crew for our sailing trip through the Caribbean. Is it us? Are we the problem? Be honest. This week, the fun begins with a sleepless night due to a very rolly anchorage, and continues with a complete lack of ability to anchor our boat. We could blame the anchorage, but there's four other boats here. We could blame the anchor, but, again, there's four other boats here. So there's only one other direction to point the finger....
