Turn on Captions for Malay Subtitles. SEASON 4 Episode 14 From Germany, Rada & Henning shipped their #RussianCampervan over to Malaysia and intend on driving it back to Germany via Tibet. Check out their UAZ 452 Bukhanka #VanTour!! It was Rada and Henning's first month in Malaysia and they had just got their UAZ so their camper was quite disorganised at the time we shot it, their roof rack was not yet ready and they really had not had any time sleeping and trying out their camper. They had just built the interior a month before arriving in Malaysia. Everything was a big mad rush for them. They are now happily touring Vietnam and enjoying their Asian adventures.
We have a 1967 Bristol 27 sailboat for sale this week - designed by Carl Alberg. It has a Monitor Windvane steering system, a really nice/solid dinghy, and an AIS-equipped radio as nice bonuses for a classic sailboat. A young man graduated from high school and decided he wanted to take a year off and take this classic sailboat and go solo sailing. He took the Bristol 27 and sailed it from Massachusetts to the Caribbean and back over a 9-month period. At $6,000, It's a really fair price given the additional equipment. She needs a little love but you'd be getting a lot for your money here. ======= CAPT Q MERCH ===== https://www.etsy.com/shop/CaptainQYachtHunter ============== Support us ============== Like what we're doing & want to help?? Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. It's almost 900 nautical miles from Panama to the Galapagos, there can be huge ocean currents (we had 4 knots with us at one stage then mostly 2 against us the rest of the way), you have to cross the infamous doldrums, there are frequent squalls of torrential rain, massive fish to be caught plus the momentous countdown from North to South as we cross the equator and are transformed by nautical folklore from pollywogs to proper shellbacks! We risk putting up our unicorn sail - the genneka who we have ripped 4 times to date. We also land a giant mahi, see whales, and are visited by the famous red footed boobie. All in all it's an action packed 6 day passage to arrive at the fabulous Galapagos islands. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.
Join us for some island hopping and lion fish hunting, then we pick up our friends Megan and Kelly who are joining the crew for our sailing trip through the Caribbean. Is it us? Are we the problem? Be honest. This week, the fun begins with a sleepless night due to a very rolly anchorage, and continues with a complete lack of ability to anchor our boat. We could blame the anchorage, but there's four other boats here. We could blame the anchor, but, again, there's four other boats here. So there's only one other direction to point the finger.... Also, we run the air conditioning at anchor and we're a little shocked by the power draw. Thanks for watching! We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. Daze Off is no longer. From here out our boat shall be named...... After holding on to this specific boat name for 9 years now, we are finally able to use it as we rename our boat. Going through a complete refit, it seems only fitting she comes out of it with a new name as well. We prep the boat for her new name and decals, do a big reveal, and explain how we came up with it and what it means to us. Even though we're not yet on the water we still had a renaming ceremony and I found a way to appease the gods of the wind and the sea. Stay tuned for the next episode where we make our big splash! In this video, BuzzFeed producer Erin Phraner shares a recipe for easy homemade teething biscuits. This healthy recipe is all-natural, gluten-free and only 5 ingredients. Perfect for teething babies! Her daughter Charlotte LOVES these simple treats as a part of her baby-led weaning routine. Interested in making your own baby food? Give this recipe a try... HEALTHY HOMEMADE TEETHING BISCUITS MAKES: about 6 large biscuits 2 cups baby oatmeal 1 mashed banana 1 teaspoon organic ground cinnamon 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil 4 tablespoons water 1. Preheat the oven to 425˚F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. Mix all of the ingredients in a medium bowl using your hands until the dough is squishy and sticks together when pressed between your fingers. 3. Pat or roll the mixture out to about 1/4" thick on a cutting board. Cut into sticks or use a cookie cutter to make shapes (you want them to be as solid as possible, so avoid intricate cutters). 4. Bake 15 minutes or until golden, then turn off the oven and let harden in there for about 20 more minutes. The longer they sit the harder they'll get, so sometimes I leave them in even longer if I let some of the hot air out first. 5. Store in an air-tight container up to 1 week or in the freezer up to 3 months. Recipe note: Always watch your little one when they're chewing on a teething biscuit, once they mush it down, it's possible that they can bite off a chunk so you just want to make sure you're paying attention—don't give it to them and then walk away! More tech videos from Ryan! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5Aiuraud2WV4kvzjCAKAhUVNhbSWsKOH The guide to Lithium batteries on a sailboat: https://youtu.be/pP98FJD6b04 ⚡ Get 10% OFF Dakota Lithium batteries with code RYANANDSOPHIE sitewide, on all orders at: https://bit.ly/43C4ulL In new installment of Ryan’s Tech Corner, we tell you all about alternators on sailboats and how you can turn your engine into a power-house generator. A little over a year ago, after we spent 2 months in Almerimar entirely refitting Polar Seal, we made an executive decision to stop upgrade her. After installing Lithium batteries, a big 3000W inverter, a second autopilot, a watermaker, a new fridge, a new arch and davits, new solar panels... (there is more, but you get my point) Because I mean, how much money are you going to spend upgrading a Beneteau Oceanis 40 before you decide to buy another boat? Well, at least, that's how we thought back then. Hahaha :) I had forgotten that I live with a nerd... who will NEVER stop upgrading the boat. So when we had to run our engine more than we thought we would be across the Atlantic, Ryan got frustrated by how little power we got out of our alternator. And pretty much every time that Ryan gets frustrated by something on the boat, we end up with a new toy. This time, it was a high-output alternator :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** JOIN THE CREW! ** Join our virtual crew of Patrons at: https://www.patreon.com/ryanandsophiesailing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** MUSIC ** 🎶 In this video: Tape Machines - Arms of Gold (Epidemic Sound) Northern Saints - Swirling Ship (Artlist) Loving Calibers - Lucky day (Epidemic Sound) Geva Alon - Green Valley (Artlist) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). At this year's Monaco Show I was invited to a Press Conference for ICON yachts...held on the Sunseeker stand! By the time I got there I had already guessed what it may be about, and sure enough they announced that Sunseeker will be collaborating with ICON to build their first ever metal yacht. A 161' aluminium construction. The yacht shall be branded "Sunseeker by ICON". This partnership makes a lot of sense, combining Sunseeker enormous prowess with ICON's considerable experience in building metal yachts to a very high standard.
Again we are frustrated by headwinds no matter which way we turn as we sail from the western Baltic and enter the Kiel Canal. After a brief stay in Cuxhaven to shelter from the headwinds, we enter the North Sea. The North Sea quickly becomes my least favorite place to sail as the wind over shallow waters churn up some nasty seas. Date of passage June 7- 11
We endure yet another storm before setting Calypso up for an overnight passage. We're expecting 20 knots of wind and 6 foots seas during this passage and it doesn't disappoint! We'll take you overnight without all the fancy editing and music this time. Then we'll pull into Charleston with a stowaway just in time to enjoy a lovely beach bar! See it here first! Welcome to the Riviera 58 Sport Motor Yacht. This is a brand spanking NEW model from the Aussie builder and worthy of your attention if you are seeking one or all of the following: - Offshore capable hull - Extra real estate - Ability to manage solo or with crew - Practical design catered to serious boaters - Very good resale in some markets While I know many Riv owners have already owned multiple Riv's in the past for those of you who are being introduced to this brand you need to think of a vessel that has been designed with ease of use in challenging environments. This is a boat that is happy bashing through waves all day and being belted with harsh sun but the occupants inside will largely remain comfortable and still enjoy the experience. They allow you to transport a luxury experience to a remote place and enjoy yourself. That's the best way I can describe a Riv and particularly this 58 SMY with her multiple levels. When I say luxury I also mean all the little details - like sound and temperature insulation and the ergonomics of the space below have been designed into the boat and the experience at the helms as the operator of one of these boats is very hard to match. They just do a great job at making blokes (and ladies) of all sizes feel comfortable at the helm of their boats. PRICE Riviera has strong forward orders for many of their models so please speak with your local dealer as pricing varies by country, model and delivery time, so it is difficult to quote a specific price at this time. https://www.rivieraaustralia.com/locate-your-representative/ BRAND https://www.rivieraaustralia.com/ ASK DAN - Got a question - Minnect me https://app.minnect.com/expert/DanJones EXCLUSIVE CONTENT - Support my work and see unpublished videos https://www.patreon.com/dansboatlife SAY THANKS https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/dansboatlife?country.x=AU&locale.x=en_AU CONTACT - Book a shoot (Buyers use Minnect) www.dansboatlife.com.au/contact

Ever wanted to convert your old gas outboard to electric? This is the video to see as boat builder Bob Emser leads us through the conversion of his vintage outboard to electric power. Replacing the 2 cycle 1961 Johnson outboard was an easy choice with the install of a new Epropulsion EVO 1 pod. Retrofitting the new pod in the existing motor case keep to look of the vintage 1969 SeaRay 700 intact. “If you’re going to make it, make it beautiful.” Bob Emser More info on the EPROPULSION email Alex Yuknat at alex@portniantic.com https://www.portniantic.com As an advocate for backyard boat builders I offer a free 30 minute chat about your project. We met travelling around India, and quickly agreed that rather than “settling down” and doing what most normal people do, we wanted to travel and adventure instead and started our sailing lifestyle adventure stories, since then, we’ve been working hard towards achieving our dreams, and now we’re finally living them as sailing cruising lifestyle! Boston Whaler has become synonymous with offshore fishing boats that are made to take a beating from Mother Nature. But now, the company has taken those foul-weather handling capabilities and created a cruising weekender that looks at fishing as sort of an afterthought. It’s the 350 Realm and she is the first of a new series of offshore boats for Boston Whaler. On our test day, it was blowing and rough out, which was perfect to see how she handles, but for getting decent performance numbers… not so much. Nine months. Four oceans, five continents. Over 40,000 nautical miles. There's a reason why they call the Volvo Ocean Race the world's toughest ocean challenge - and here it is. A trophy desired by so many, but lifted by so few, every three years, the best sailors on the planet step out of the comfort zone to truly test themselves against Mother Nature.
