What a pleasent surprise this was. I dropped by Thailand in January to check out what's been happenning in Asia and the answer is a LOT! Thailand is growing into a world class boating destination with a huge base of skilled Thai's who are coming up through the tourist industry and moving into private yacht management. The owners of this stunning Riviera 78MY are benefiting from this. They are living their best boat life with two fantastic crew members looking after this absolute stunner of a boat! What is clearly evident to me about the 78MY is that this is a yacht that you can run fully crewed but should you choose to run it yourself for the weekend with your mates then she will be totally manageable to anyone who's owned a moderately sized Riv before. Basically if you've had a Riv you'll understand how to operate this thing. However as soon as you head below the interior spaces and design will knock your socks off! It's got more of a custom build feel to it and the interior textures on 'Big Mama' make her feel very special indeed! Thanks to Martin and his whole crew from Lee Marine for organising this special day which was not planned like one of my normal shoots. We just gathered together the cameras we had and made it happen which was super cool. Tour des Yoles is the most important yearly sportive event of Martinique. The entire country celebrates this event as traditional sailboats race around the island. What did we get up to in Bristol, Rhode Island? A bit of electrical work, some solar panel installation, sorting out rigging details so we can get to sailing this sailboat, and making a mockup of the hard dodger. Scott, KP, and Satchel are doing all this work from the mooring in Bristol, which on some days, with the prevailing southwesterlies, can be a pretty "sporty" place in the summer time. Im hit by the wind force of a CAT1 Hurricane out at sea! Sailing 1081 nautical miles solo fighting my way through endless numbers of violent storms and even hurricane force winds in the Banda Sea. This is a true story and not a youtube storm or drama. Its the reality of sailing the Banda Sea during rainy season with the north west monsoons and even cyclones that creates ridiculous weathers. Amazing close up video of a cyclone forming and the battles I had that even cost me sails after a full knock down in gale force 12 - 72 knots of wind. Im even sharing my strategies and why I added 731 nautical miles to my route. How the weather patterns works in the Banda Sea, and the effects of the cyclones. Strong ocean currents and also sharing a best time to cross the Banda sea timeline. I hope this video not only works as entertainment but even could be of a value for sailors coming this way in the future. Its not ment to scare you off, but to share what you can expect and why Indonesia is among the most complicated nations to sail. Especially as a solo sailor. If you ever wondered about my earlier statements about why you need a strong engine and even a range of minimum 500 nautical mile, this episode could enlighten you a bit. This is a prime example why going blue water (CE category A) without engine is stupid, and why a fully electric is in the same category. Größe eines Segelbootes, Preis, Material, Segeleigenschaften... Das geht alles gegeneinander und lässt sich nur schwer miteinander vereinbaren. Denn er baut sich seine eigene Segelyacht und nennt das Projekt "Next Generation Yachting". Für seine VOLT ist ein E-Antrieb vorgesehen, weshalb wir natürlich sehr interessiert an dem Thema sind. Das Ziel bei der VOLT ist es Performance, Sicherheit, Nachhaltigkeit und Wirtschaftlichkeit unter einen Hut zu bekommen und ein Segelboot mit möglichst wenig Kompromissen zu bauen.
