Playing music through a system is one thing but playing an actual band is another. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. When we laid the glass we intentionally glassed over the bolt holes where the keel bolts through the hull and grid. This allowed us to have one continuous bond of new glass where it matters the most! Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. It includes a clip of a local fishing boat being launched in the same slip as the one we were hauled out in. No travel lifts here! This is all done using cables, cradles and brute force!

After three days in Cuxhaven we sail to the island Vlieland in The Netherlands. The trip is 150 nautical miles and takes 25 hours. We have a good sail with nice winds and make around 6,5 knots of speed. The weather is cold but sunny. Unfortunately we sail in to some heavy fog in the morning the next day. On Vlieland we discover the island and walk on the empty beaches and in the woods. We fly with our drone and get som nice footage and Johan makes "semlor", a Swedish pastry. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. Sailing the charming small Island of Chalki and then Rhodes, The largest of the Dodecanese Islands in Greece! Spotting Dolphins, exploring the laneways of Chalki & the largest medieval castle in the world and Enjoying some beach time. Summer has arrived, Finally! This week we sail to some new Islands! Chalki is a beautiful Small island with colourful Greek houses and crystal clear water! Probably the clearest water we've seen in a harbour, ever! Everyone is super friendly, except the coastguards who tell us off. Then we make the last minute decision to sail to Rhodes to get some protection from some strong wind and enjoy Lindos and Rhodes Old town. We Stroll the largest Medieval castle in the entire world, and enjoy some beach time Sailing to secluded beaches, Skinny dipping, Beach picnics, Dolphins, new destinations, hiking and finally some warm weather! This week we Sail to an amazing secluded beach only accessible by boat ON Simi Island in Greece. It turns out to be a lot warmer than we anticipated for our beach picnic and we really didn't dress for the occasion, so we make the most of having the entire beach to ourselves and go for a nude swim! We sail to the other side of the island to get some protection from some strong wind forecast, do a bit of hiking and then leave for another island called Chalki, on the way were lucky enough to be treated to some dolphins playing at the bow! what an amazing introduction to being back in Greece! It has been a week of amazing deserted anchorages one after the other in Montenegro! We spent a few days stripping off and enjoying the freedom of a isolated beautiful bay, then after a quick trip to civilisation to pick up data and a few essentials, we had back out and find another fantastic spot to drop the pick fro another few days of exploring old castles and ruins, swimming with a friendly shark and having a rathe nasty ruin in with some sea urchins!
