Our first days in Thailand and we meet this new blonde bomb shell! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, after a couple of days at sea, we arrive back to the island of Phuket in Thailand. After spending 5 months in remote Indonesia we were craving the simple things in life that a developed tourist area offers. Western food and supermarkets, wine and lots of people! Bonita makes the most of being able to get dressed up and look pretty and then is left alone with the scissors... It is good to be back in Thailand where everything just feels easier and more free. We have a tradition now that when ever we complete a passage we hunt for the nearest beer and burger for breakfast! We happen to drop anchor next to Uncle's boat and it is great to see this legend again and celebrate his birthday! With full bellies and big smiles, we relax into Thailand life again and prepare for the onward journey. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we have returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning as we plan to sail our Nandji around the world!! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Hello Everyone! Due to corona virus restrictions we had to remain in Staniel Cay longer than we'd been planning, but absolutely no complaints! Inner-Island traveling became restricted unless we were headed back to the US. We most definitely made the best of our time there meeting the pigs (Nathalie's favorite part of the entire trip), got the compressor working and went diving for our first time this trip, dove the grotto again (we are slightly obsessed with the Thunderball Grotto) and worked on a few boat projects. COVID-19 UPDATE As of our time in Norman's Cay: Staniel Cay felt like a ghost town under lockdown restriction. We only went to shore for groceries and to take garbage to the garbage dump. Halfway through our second week the government retracted the 90 min exercise period so we were only able to go to shore for necessities. The yacht club restaurant was still open at this time as well to take-out and since we'd been anchored at the island for a while, the grocery clerks and restaurant workers all recognized us and were happy to see us, but new cruisers coming to the island everyone was weary about. At this time masks were also required to be worn around and towards the end of our second week we were not allowed to leave the boat, even to go for a swim or paddle around. Sailing a Sunfish sailboat starting in 12 knots of wind during the first hour which turned into 20+ knot gusts in the middle of the San Francisco Bay!! Three capsizes, broken halyard shackle, lost paddle, lost bailing bucket, random rain-shower, and finally abandoned the beached dinghy. Walked across a mile of soggy marsh land and had to swim across a river onto dry land. So much fun!

This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Anche la sovrastruttura e l’hard top sono in vetro-carbonio ed è stato calcolato che pesano quasi il 40% in meno di un equivalente manufatto di vetroresina tradizionale. Se c’è meno peso in alto, c’è più stabilità. A prua l’opera viva, cioè la parte della carena che incontra l’acqua, è slanciata, ma sopra la linea di galleggiamento lo scafo si allarga per far posto alla cabina per il marinaio. Sul ponte prodiero, oltre al prendisole c’è un divano appoggiato al parabrezza. Il salone accoglie tutte le 12 persone che possono salire a bordo. La cabina dell’armatore è panoramica con letto in diagonale e molti scomparti per il guardaroba; un romantico tea for two completa la suite padronale. We have been struck by lightning for the second time in 2 years. Costa Rica is renown for its lighting in wet season, and sure enough, 3 boats got struck on this fateful night. The first time we got struck was in Panama 2 wet seasons ago, so the boat has had its fair share of bad luck, including bulkhead and also hurricane damage... the Bay of Plenty, Banyak Islands. Our Favourite Anchorage to date! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive to our Ultimate Achorage, the Bay of Plenty in the Banyak islands. This is truly our paradise. Surfing from a sailboat is much harder than you think and finding a place that has an all weather anchorage, zero swell and roll in the anchorage, beautiful white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and then pumping waves a short tender ride away through mangroves, which is almost as much fun as the surf itself! We truly have found what we are looking for! I think once we left we have now decided that we will sail around the world just to come back here!!! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we are returning to Thailand in the coming months and then taking the northern route of the Indian Ocean to the Andaman islands and onto Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trades begin again! The adventure is just beginning! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it!
