This week we continue working on the wooden hardware to be rebedded to the deck. After repairing the hardwood hatch frame last week, we continue that work with the teak companionway hatch slide rail. It gets an epoxy repair. The fiberglass work continues around on the deck around the butterfly hatch to prepare and finish it for receiving the companionway sliding door. We show how to identify and correct a water circulation problem on the air conditioner unit on board. We want to avoid the dreaded HPF error. When you get an HPF error in the summer (Running the A/C) then it is likely a water circulation problem when you get an HPF error in the winter (Running the reverse cycle heat) it is probably an air flow problem. We show how to correct what just turned out to be an airlock in our system from having had the boat hauled out and getting air caught in the line, and the pump losing it's prime. And Lastly, we go and see another great show the local community theatre called "Let's be Frank" which was a Frank Sinatra performance from a great actor/singer that we have seen in a few other local performances. Starkwind und Nebel einhand

This time I scrape the antifouling away with a scraper mounted to a vacuum cleaner to suck away hazardous dust. After the process I start to sand down the layers of primer with a sander and some 40 grid sandpaper, this device is also connected to the vacuum cleaner to counteract dust. The equipment to remove antifouling is free of charge in my sail club.

It's time to replace the 38 year old standing rigging on our Endeavour 32 sailboat. In this video, I replace the 4 lower shrouds. Those are the wires that run from deck-level, up to the height of the spreaders. Ever since buying this sailboat, I've had thoughts of replacing the standing rigging. The decision was made for me when some of the wires were damaged during hurricane Irma. This will be the biggest project we've tackled yet, and we'll be doing all of the work ourselves. This is race 1 of the 2018 Medway Yacht Club (MYC) single handed yacht racing series. There wasn't much wind but we all had a great sail and in the end it came down to a pretty nail biting finish between Reefer X and Ian... only to find out after the race that they were both beaten on handicap by a little 18ft'er!! Summer in Michigan is magic, because it’s so fleeting. It usually arrives sometime in June, and by the time you’ve attended a family get together and a wedding or two, it’s already August, and you’re wondering where the heck the time went… If you’re like most, you manage to squeeze in a week of vacation, preferably near the water, maybe on a boat! There might be a campfire, a few drinks, starry nights and just enough of a breeze to keep the mosquitos at bay. For us, this week in Charlevoix was our summer vacation. Charlevoix is a lovely little northern Michigan town, with a main street full of boutiques, restaurants and sweet shops. It overlooks Round Lake, a lively harbor connecting Lake Charlevoix to Lake Michigan. We spent couple days exploring the town. I’m (Lauren) a total coffee snob with a terrible sweet tooth, so the fact that Harwood Gold — a cafe/coffee shop that sells their own maple syrup — was only a block from our boat was trouble. The public library proved a great spot to get work done. The city provides free bikes for anyone to use around town. Kirk and I hadn’t ridden a bike since we sold our beach cruisers before leaving California, and we were elated to explore the area on bikes. Two nights at the city marina meant the slip fees were adding up. A coworker of Kirk’s mom invited us to bring our boat over to Oyster Bay in Lake Charlevoix where her and her husband have a cabin on the water. We dropped our hook beside their 36’ Pearson and their friends Jon and Katharine’s 42’ Hinckley. A splendid week with lovely people, and some gorgeous sailing to boot. Hope you enjoy! This is one expensive piece of lumber! We wanted to make sure that we accurately cut the keel timber to shape so our initial cut was only getting us close to the final shape, so that we could see whether it warped/checked/shrank etc. afterwards. Now that we are close to mating the two keels together, we get the wood keel to it's final shape except for the fairing from the rabbet down. This fairing will be done after the rabbet is cut, the deadwood is shaped and the two keels are ready to be bolted together. Which is soon! It's our third week at sea, on passage from Costa Rica to Hawaii and the weather changes. For a couple of days it's really windy and there's not much else to do than to sit down below and drink coffee and tea. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. We spend our last days in the Solomon Islands, we clear customs and are ready to go, but Nandji does not agree... https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, We are in Gizo preparing for our onward journey to Papua New Guinea. Yosh gets a few waves and we anchor out front of what we thought we would be the perfect anchorage to prepare Nandji, until a storm rolls in. With bad weather for days on end we try to keep ourselves occupied and relies that the island close by needs some loving. Sick of seeing rubbish all the time, Bonita decides to do something about it and tidies up our little patch of beach with the help from a few little lads. Finally we are ready to leave and clear customs but Nandji decides something else... She keeps us on our toes!
