The Voyage of Sea Swan, 1972. This boat was built mostly on the Patchogue River by Arnie Cortner and his wife, BettyLou. He started with a stand of trees that had been cut down by a developer and built a 46 ft-long schooner to his own design. When it was finished, after 8 years, Captain Forsyth volunteered to navigate from Long Island to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. The voyage took nearly a month, when we left in early November it was snowing. This was originally shot on VHS and later edited onto a DVD with narration. Fiona Sails to the Arctic and the Tropics, (Chapter4), 2000 to 2001. Our route took us to the Maritimes of Canada, Iceland and Spitzbergen. Leaving Spitzbergen the engine sea water cooling pump died and we made emergency repairs to get to Norway. We cruised the rugged northern islands of Scotland and the west coast of Ireland. When we crossed the Bay of Biscay the weather got warmer. After Christmas on Long Island, courtesy of a 747, we made a double-handed passage to St. Martin; two old men with and average age of about 75. On the way home we visited the worker’s paradise of Cuba, and left it in stormy weather for the Bahamas and then Bermuda. Fiona Cruises to Antarctica, (Chapter 3), 1998 to 1999. This was my first cruise to Antarctica, I chose a tough route via the Chilean ‘Canals’- the labyrinth of channels and passages on the west coast of Chile. We endured deep anchorages, gusty winds and icebergs. On the way back, we duplicated the famous voyage of Sir Ernest Shackleton who made passage from Elephant Island to South Georgia in a small boat in 1916 after his ship was crushed in the ice. We managed to anchor briefly in the open roadstead at Tristan da Cunha and get ashore in the dinghy. This voyage attracted the attention of the Cruising Club of America, who were gracious enough the following year to award me the Blue Water medal in recognition. New York to Falmouth, U.K. on Arvincourt ll, 1964. This depicts the start of Captain Forsyth’s ocean sailing; a voyage to England as crew with Edith on board John Knight’s home-made cutter. We are coming to the bittersweet end of the tour of the Southwest just after our epic trip to Havasupai Falls. Heading back out on Route 66 towards St. George just after a quick visit to Antelope Canyon, Erica heads out for a girls bachelorette weekend while Warren explores the St. George area solo. Without skipping a beat, the two rejoice again and head to conclude the Southwest with exploring Dixie National Forest, Bryce Canyon, Escalante and then off to Moab for our last big bike ride over the Whole Enchilada. Utah continues to amaze us with the incredible landscapes of Bryce Canyon National park to Jacob Hamblin Arch and the slot canyon of Escalante.

In this vlog we finally get the new headliner in the salon area of our sailboat. We used a tongue and groove style vinyl beadboard found at Home Depot. It's completely waterproof and should never rot. The trim is also vinyl. We also added 1/2" XPS foam insulation, (also found at Home Depot) to help cut down on the heat of the tropical sun's rays. We're finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Tonga Take 2: We depart Maupihaa for a now 1100nm crossing to Tonga after our impromptu stop to fix our water pipe and refill our tanks. The new crew are dosed up on seasick pills which is just as well cause it’s a rough ride! Awesome wind pushing us along but a terrible sea state that keeps us on our toes. After 3-4 days it settles down somewhat, but maintaining that awesome breeze to encourage us straight towards the cruising mecca of Vava’u, Tonga. Am 29.06.2018 fand das Richtfest vom neuen Clubhaus statt. Auch während des Krantermins am 03.11.2018 wurde fleißig weiter gearbeitet! Wir heißen zwar Segler-Club Oberspree e.V (SCO), liegen aber an der Unterhavel. Das der SCO an der Unterhavel liegt ist Umständen zu verdanken, die typisch für die Berliner Geschichte sind. Gegründet wurde der SCO am 24. Juni 1906 im Restaurant "Zu den drei Linden" in Grünau. 1912 wurde die Große Rohrwall-Insel in der Dahme, am südöstlichen Rande Berlins gepachtet, gleichzeitig wurde der SCO Gründungsmitglied des "Deutschen Segler-Bundes", der später in den Deutschen Segler-Verband aufging und stellte dort für zehn Jahren mit Robert Höfer sogar den Bundesvorsitzenden. Der Große Rohrwall nun ging nach dem Krieg in die Verfügungsgewalt der DDR über, was die im westlichen Berlin wohnenden Mitglieder motivierte, 1954 den "Segler-Club Oberspree e.V." in West-Berlin zu gründen. 1966 konnte ein Grundstück in Berlin-Kladow gepachtet und wenige Jahre später mit einem in Eigenarbeit erstellten Clubhaus ausgestattet werden. Weiteres Gelände konnte hinzugepachtet und später gekauft werden. Der Verein verfügt jetzt über ein Gelände von 4000 qm. Weitere Info's: Segler-Club Oberspree e.V. After leaving Cape Verde, we headed due west aiming for Martinique in the Carribbean. a few hundred miles into the second leg, our tracker stopped working and a passing yacht kindly sent a sattellite message home for us. The captain spent his birthday at sea too and we also get a visit from Santa. Once we arrive in the Caribbean, Niamh is there waiting for us and we go on some adventures around Martinique. Hanging around Waiheke and getting used to home schooling. We are also waiting for more school work to be sent to us. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.
