Fomos conhecer outra praia, a Praia do Engenho, passeio que nos rendeu um mergulho agradável na parte da manhã, quando tivemos a praia só pra gente. De lá rumamos para Paraty Mirim, a parada em si não foi tão interessante, mas na saída uma novidade nos esperava, ventos de 21, 22 nós com rajadas de 25 nós em popa - o mais desconfortável para navegar. Quando saímos do "funil" ele começou a rondar e eu fiquei apreensiva com a possibilidade de um jibe. Capitão Barba Negra comandou sua tripulação com maestria, me colocando para caçar e soltar as escotas da mestra pra evitar, com minhas próprias mãos que a retranca jogasse - controle que me deixou 100% segura. Sei que não é possível fazer isso por 12 horas, foi um grande aprendizado que me deu muita confiança em mim e no Barba Negra (o capitão e o barco).

▷UK BLOG AWARDS NOW ENDED _______________________________________________________________ With all the family and friends we'd had onboard there was yet another shopping trip ashore, but day tripper boats, jet skis and jet boats made the journeys through San Antonio anchorage even more hazardous than usual. So once our friend, Dan and his daughter Sophia joined us and another hair dressing lesson from Julie and Simon, we headed for Mallorca and searched out the best beaches and anchorages along the south coast. Inevitably there were maintenance issues along the way so it was great to have Dan to help out, especially with hoisting Woody up the mast to sort out the masthead light. The kids also took great delight in using the new halyard as a swing, although stormy weather quickly out a stop to the fun :/ Finally we said farewell to our guests and it was back to home schooling again using our new @cgpbooks We decided to explore ashore, visiting Colonia de Sant Jordi and Palma where the kids’ tried tapas for the first time, learned about different types of anchors (rocnas, plows, danforths deltas etc.) in a local chandlery and about conservation from a pop up exhibition near the cathedral, which all supplements their education. In light of recent criticism from the kids about our teaching methods lately, it was a relief to take teaching off the boat for a while. Grandad also joined us in Palma and he’s also good for a bit of living history too! We had another stock up from the local @lidlespana and @AldiSupermercados.es in Palmanova and also found loads @michaelmorpurgoofficial books (one of the kids’ favourite authors) in the Lions Club Mallorca shop. We also had fun meeting up with other cruisers, especially Lyn and Andy then headed to Santa Ponsa for water before going on to Camp de Mar. With so many guests this summer the maintenance jobs began to pile up – battery charger, automatic fresh water pump, manual fresh water pump, manual toilet pump.. all need looking at in the next blog! Our attempts to get to Soller were frustrated by unfavourable winds so we decided to take the train from Palma in the end and, what a journey! Welp, it’s about time we get moving south, eh? With all the boat dramas from the last few episodes now behind us, we’re finally making miles south down the Illinois River. And good thing, too, ‘cause winter is hot on our keel. We encounter all sorts of fun stuff on the river: huge locks, herds of sheep, free docks located in the heart of several downtowns, electric fish barriers, duck hunters hiding in elaborate blinds, pairs of pelicans, flocks of seagulls, and possibly some golden eagles (they were too far away and we’re not very confident in our birding skills). After a few stops in the towns of Joilet and Ottawa, and a marina to pick up some parts and supplies, we make it to Henry, IL, where we wake up to frost on our deck. It’s getting cold as, mate. Another Upwind passage competing with Currents and Ships, then a Scooter? https://www.sailingnandji.com This week on Sailing Nandji, After successfully clearing back into Indonesia, we head to sea on a upwind passage South to the island of Rote in search of some surf for Yosh. There is a strong opposing current which makes sailing upwind difficult in the light conditions, throw a few ships in the mix and everything becomes exciting! We visit the busy local market and load up on supplies. Walking through town resembles a free range farm as the goats, chickens, pigs and cows roam where they feel. Exploring the island by Indonesias favourite transport, the Scooter! We discover some beautiful white sandy beaches and return the following day so Yosh can have his first surf in 6 months! Not wasting time though, it is back to sea we go heading West to Malaysia where we plan to install our new engine! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and are now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! We also witness an alleged refugee boat and sail along the east coast of Symi in the Greek Islands before experiencing 45 plus knots of wind at anchor. This week we divided and conquered some of the work on board the boat, as well as in our storage shed. But first, I flew out of town for a work conference and enjoyed a tremendous small venue private concert with Kelly Clarkson. The company I work for hired her to perform to our customers, so we had about 5000 of us or so at "The Joint" at the Hardrock Casino in Vegas. Good times and she sings great. While I was out of town, Deb started on clearing out the Storage sheds to sell, donate and throw stuff away. This has been needed for a long while, and we have a lot more to go, but it is progress toward getting rid of more of our stuff. I was going to bed what I thought was a leaking port light in the Galley. I didn't like what I found. The leak and moisture were coming from above the port, NOT from the port itself. This was terrible news as it meant I was going to have to figure out how to fix this and I wasn't sure. The little voice in my head kept thinking I may need to grind and fiberglass the new work that we just had done on the coach house. I wanted to avoid that as you can likely imagine. So while I contemplated it, I sanded and faired a few places in the salon and head in preparation for painting the surfaces white. We love the classic teak and mahogany wood interior. However it does make it quite dark down below, so we are looking for small ways to lighten the interior without getting rid of the wood. The old look of horizontal teak strips over white boards is one of the areas that we are changing. We removed the parallel teak strips and will paint these areas white around the opening ports. This will allow more light to reflect off the surfaces. After our crossing from Norfolk VA, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) arrives in St. George’s, and we plan to take few days “vacation” to explore beautiful Bermuda, a place we have both longed to visit. The visit gets extended to 10 days as we wait for a suitable weather window to Antigua. All this time s/v Cloudy Bay is moored in St. George’s on the town quay, but we have to move dock several times (4 in fact!) due to other boats comings and goings. One position we are rafted up to s/v Gale, a beautiful Swan66, where we get to know their friendly crew, and another position we end up bouncing off the bottom in the middle of he night, ruining our recent keel maintenance. Due to the extended stay, we get to explore all the island’s corners, beaches, fortifications, towns and generally exquisite scenery. We cycle around the east end and scooter two days along the south shore and the west end. It’s clearly an affluent island, very expensive, pretty scenery and a very safe feeling. St. George’s and Hamilton are both very picturesque towns, and the beaches along south shore are simply spectacular. But in November it was very quiet, didn’t feel like we were there quite in the right season. It is certainly a summer island season, with a warm winter. The highlights: St. George’s, Hamilton, Royal Naval Dockyard, the beaches on Cooper’s Island, Tobacco Bay, John Smith Beach, Elbow Beach, Astwood Park, Horseshoe Bay, Somerset Long Bay. With the Mavic, we took aerial views along the south shore, pretty amazing beaches and coves.
