The lovely staff from Ahipara Primary School were blessed with beautiful weather when they joined us on a cruise. The morning was absolutely stunning and once breakfast was done, it was change into wetsuits and get ready for a snorkel not before a short spell of "flossing". Once in the water our guests were greeted by the wonderful marine line, different types of fish and even a visit from a stingray gliding by. Back on the boat after collecting a few kina, the group kayaked to Roberton Island to take in the breathtaking views with blue sky as far as the eye could see and learn a little history from our crew. After relaxing and exploring it was back to The Rock for lunch and a leisurely cruise back to Paihia. As we sail south on the Inside Passage in British Columbia we stumble upon another Swedish boat way older than Ran. We visit a first nation village and take a bath in the hot spring of Bishop Bay while watching a pod of humpback whales. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. Ahoy, in this episode we talk about anchors. We tested the ULTRA Anchor in comparison to the ROCNA Anchor. With both anchors we did exactly the same maneuvers to compare their performance. First we anchored like we do all the time, backing up to set the anchor, but then we drove ZERO to the other side, pretending the wind or the currents are changing. That means we broke it free and reset it immediately. A situation which happens all the time and a good anchor should reset quickly. Both anchors performed very well but in our experience the ULTRA outperformed the ROCNA with faster setting and resetting and more holding power by digging way deeper into the sand than the ROCNA did. And on top of that the quality of the used materials and overall appearance is outstanding and the anchor looks like it is produced without making any compromises. Well Done!! Very shortly after waking up to heavy rain and wind, hauling anchor, and sailing towards West End, Grand Bahama, Eric takes a little slip and very nearly cuts his own toe off! It was bone deep and required some flesh readjustment, butterflies, and massive amounts of gauze, but he puts himself together again while Loren assists. Undaunted we proceed to have a beautiful sail (and a Happy Birthday) towards West End, all the while sipping fuel during the light wind spots, keeping our fingers crossed not to run out before reaching our destination. The 180-foot ketch Marie is a sister vessel to the triple award-winning sailing yacht Adele. While featuring an identical hull, keel, rudder and sail plan, Marie has a new and entirely customised interior and deck layout. She was built at Vitters Shipyard and launched in 2010. The fabulous looks and sensational performance of Adele had already inspired the owners of the 174-foot sloop Erica XII and the 204-foot schooner Athos.

We've been involved in a number of J-Class projects as part of the class' revival, working on Lionheart, Topaz and Svea, so seeing this exceptionally-elegant class on the water is what we live for. This clip of J Classes racing during the 2016 St Barths Bucket does a perfect job of showing why...

The 2017 America's Cup saw the first America's Cup yachts to ever be built - the J-Class - take to the water alongside their modern counterparts. With only ten ever built, spectators are always thrilled to see the class racing, and with seven Js battling it out in Bermuda, it was the largest gathering in the history of the class, giving space for a decades old rivalry to play out.

Take an in depth look at what goes into a J-Class regatta, in this clip summing up the 2017 America's Cup J Class racing - age-old rivalries, splendour and grace in abundance and a brand new vessel, built from eighty year old plans. That vessel, Svea, is a project we were very proud to work on. Taking the original plans and honouring her design while ensuring the end result was a yacht successful in every possible way, was a project we were truly proud to undertake.
