I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

The Monkey Fist is a complicated looking knot, typically used for decorative purposes, but this knot has much more practical uses as well. Aside from looking cool, it adds weight and can be used to heave a line to shore to warp a boat into its mooring. This video shows you how to tie a monkey fist knot from beginning to end and as a special bonus, goes over some history about how this knot played a role in forming a commonly used phrase. A special thanks in this week's vlog to SuperYacht Times for letting me use their amazing footage of 109m "Project Bravo". https://www.superyachttimes.com https://www.youtube.com/user/SuperYachtTimes 2019 promises to be a sensational year for fans of large and interesting yachts, as the world's finest shipyards excel themselves in the size and style of the vessels they deliver. ICON Yachts' 68m "Project Ragnar" is especially interesting due to her design and unique Ice Breaking propulsion. I shall be following her construction regularly on my YouTube channel. Another shipyard who I had the honour of representing recently on my channel is Benetti, who's 107m "Project FB277" is the largest they have ever launched. Meanwhile, Lürssen have turned out yet another spectacular Andrew Winch designed creation in the form of "Project TIS". I am hoping to be working on a video project with this builder soon. Just before Christmas I was in Bilgin's amazing facility in Istanbul, where they have TWO 80 meter superyachts in construction side by side. That Vlog shall be published shortly... Finally, OceAnco have produced one of the most beautifully designed yachts of it's size that I have ever seen, and I am especially grateful to SuperYacht Times for letting me use their footage to make this, my first vlog of 2019, particularly engaging. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY!
In a sailboat far far away, our hero, episode 23, was MIA after an encounter with the Empire of YouTube. Today marks it's triumphant return to the Rebel Alliance. (This episode went walkabouts about a month ago from YouTube and we've finally been able to upload it again!) We arrive in St Thomas in USVI an set about exploring the town, and making new friends who invite us to a Chili Cookoff on the beach. After a sociable evening we then head around the corner to chill out in possibly the best anchorage we've been in so far and Khiara also gets hysterical over a new invention. About Us Adam and Khiara are making sailing videos and adventures around the world on our 1981 Tayana Vancouver 42. We plan to sail around the world and make our way back to Australia. Want more? http://tulasendlesssummer.com/shop-tula/ Sailboat Story anchored close by and we teamed up to compare rowing an inflatable dinghy vs. rowing a hard dinghy. It became clear that each has its own advantages and disadvantages and on of the main advantages of the Chameleon is it's rowing ability. Obviously our Highfield isn't meant to be rowed all the time and we are happy to know that in most scenarios we would be able to row it home if our engine ever breaks down. Hiking is our passion! In the trailer we introduce ourselves and show you a cross-section of the most beautiful hikes that we ever haven driven to on our sail-trip around the world. A brisk trailer for a slow way to get around! In the following episodes you can join us in our hiking activities, starting with the island of La Palma and followed by Madeira and the Azores. http://annamera.de Seit sechs Jahren bummeln wir mit unserer Annamera durch die Weltgeschichte. The 2018 season stood out before it had even started. Of the 12 teams at the opening event, 9 had brand new boats at the dock. Nine highly refined, carbon fibre machines, costing around 2 million Euros apiece. And when it came to the teams, there were Olympic medallists, America’s Cup victors, inshore rock stars and offshore heroes…the dockside was awash with talent. Whichever way you looked at it, this was going to be a tough season to win. This 52 Super Series season special looks at how the season’s racing panned out as well as going behind the scenes to find out what makes the teams and their technology tick. 00:00 Part 1 04:16 Sibenik 12:15 Part 2 12:53 Inside Quantum Racing 15:42 Zadar 19:35 New boat design details 21:47 More on Zadar 25:18 Part 3 25:20 Cascais – The World Championships 27:26 Worlds Race report - Pt1 29:49 Under the skin of a TP52 33:55 Worlds Race report – Pt2 38:03 Part 4 38:04 Puerto Portals 41:49 Sustainability and the 52 Super Series 44:00 Valencia 44:30 Why? Vanishing Point is a Farr designed fast cruiser with a deep keel for excellent upwind cruising. She is extremely comfortable with a beautifully appointed saloon that hosts a large lounge, dining for 6, a chart table and high forward windows providing lots of light. She is a centre cockpit design with the helm forward and to port, protected by a windscreen with a Bimini cover, making night shifts a breeze (or rather not breezy) This Beneteau is designed to be managed without a crew. One or two people can raise sails, reef and tack with the help of electric winches and furlers, from the protected cockpit. The rear deck area has been likened to the size of a cruise ship shuffleboard court, with no shortage of lounging space. Rear stairs and platform rotate down from the rear deck and transom giving excellent access for swimming. Vanishing point is a luxurious boat designed for very comfortable and fast cruising. Large enough for extended cruising but manageable enough for a couple. There is a review of the 57 on yacht and boat http://www.yachtandboat.com.au/news/beneteau-57-review

For January, Chef Ivari Kuimet talks us through the process of making a Sprat sandwich, a common snack in Estonia. The sandwich is made with four core ingredients: a dark rye bread, hard-boiled eggs, green onions and, as the name suggests, cleaned sprat filets.
Here is the story of what happened to our Skipper 20 last summer. ie... I almost sank our boat installing a fresh water tank?! It was a very short sailing season to say the least :-( Good news she did get repaired but never was back in the water last summer though. More videos of the repair to follow and new spring upgrades!
The family came all the way to the Dominican Republic to visit for Christmas and brought with them a valuable care package. Doug, Michal's dad, couldn't wait to dig into the boat. As we show them around, you will get an idea of what it would be like if you ever vacation here.
-New Horizon V68 hull two sea trail video- Created in collaboration with world-renowned designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett, the V68 offers a voluminous 19’6” beam and the choice of a three or four stateroom layout, with a private and spacious master suite located midship – accommodations that are much larger than most yachts up to 80 feet. Boasting superyacht design and style ingeniously fitted into an entry level size, the new Horizon V68 offers the ultimate owner-operator experience.

After our passage from Bermuda, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) returns to Antigua where we left off in May. While Cloudy Bay was docked in Jolly Harbour we visited the Jacquie O’s and Rum Bus beach venues, Falmouth Harbour, and English Harbour where the Charter Yachts Show was in full swing. We also spent a day visiting the main town of St.John’s. Cloudy Bay was hauled out for 8 days (which will be a separate video), and after getting back in the water we got into the cruising mode and sailed north along the bays on the west coast, had a day anchored off Long Island (Jumby Bay), and the in Dickenson Bay for Christmas Day. 6-10 & 23-27 Dec 2018 We have previously sailed to Antigua & Barbuda in May 2018, please see separate videos: Antigua - https://youtu.be/e2hqwpo5e18 Barbuda - https://youtu.be/MPvCyVW0e5w

This week we explore Vanuatu! Vanutau is well known in the cruising community for having some of the wildest and most remote cruising grounds in the South Pacific. The natural beauty of this country is stunning. From secluded blue holes with massive banyan tree rope swings to giant WWII wrecks, there is so much to explore and so much to see it’s impossible to catch it all on film. We quickly found out the natural beauty of this country is only surpassed by the beauty of its people. The Ni Vanu are incredible people. They live a very simple life, yet peaceful existence and almost all the people we met were amazingly happy considering, or perhaps because of how little material things they live with. We sailed Vanutau with two crew, a beautiful German couple, Tim and Miriam, who helped us document so much of our Vanuatu adventures that I have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of footage we’ve collected. Thank you so much Timm and Miriam for all your help. This is the beginning of our Vanutau adventures. Next week we go in search of human bones and an ancient Cannibal site! The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On this trip we decided to buy "Family Circus", planned to sail her to New Zealand and started an adventure that has changed our lives. Not only are we in the water, but WE'RE SAILING!!! In this vlog we finish up a couple projects and start making our way out of the canal and into Charlotte Harbor. We installed a brand new Electric Yacht motor and twelve Lithium Battleborn batteries not long ago, so this passage is the first real open water test of all of the new systems. We also have 600W of Renogy solar panels that are new. It's just one big shakedown as we're learning how everything will work in the real world out on the water. So far we're quite happy with how the motor, batteries and panels are performing. We're stoked to have a boat that is as close to "off-the-grid" as it can get. We don't have to carry any type of fuel onboard. We never need to fill a diesel, propane, or gasoline tank, and to us that's quite liberating. Kyle Langford at only 29 years of age has become one of Australia’s most experienced sailors. His resume includes two America’s Cup campaigns, the 2017-2018 Volvo Ocean Race aboard Team Brunel and an RC44 World Championship win. Kyle was sailing aboard Comanche in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and so we took the opportunity to talk to him in Hobart about the recent changes to Comanche that allowed her to remain in close touch with Wild Oats XI and Black Jack in weather that clearly favoured the latter two boats. While he says he has no current plans for the next America’s Cup, Kyle’s current focus is Sail GP in Sydney in February aboard the Australia Sail GP boat; he spoke to us with great enthusiasm about the event and what an ideal venue Sydney will be for the first round of this international circuit.
In 2017 Kialoa II finished this race in a very respectable time, despite breaking her boom on the first day. In 2018 this Sparkman and Stephens classic reveled in the strong downwind running of the first day with 5 sails flying, stuck it out through some light patches mid race and then finished her run with a typical upwind thrash around Tasman Island and across Storm Bay in 30 plus knots, arriving in Hobart with no damage at all. We spoke to owner/skipper Paddy Broughton about his race and their plans for Kialoa in 2019.
