Acordamos super animados, às 4h da manhã e partimos depois de uma tapioca (nada de estômago vazio para não enjoar!). Saímos avistando o farol da Ponta de Castelhanos, sob uma lua nova, o que clareou bastante nossa viagem, me deixando tranquila em enxergar (quase) tudo. Pouco depois já estávamos em Sepetiba e o dia começou a raiar. O nascer do sol foi lindo e eu aproveitei para deixar o Sergio descansar enquanto ainda tinha pilha. Passamos por vários navios no porto de Sepetiba e fomos no rumo 080. Cruzamos poucos navios e não encontramos nada de vento. Motoramos boa parte, passamos por Marambaia e avistamos os prédios da Barra da Tijuca antes de qualquer ponto do Rio de Janeiro. Depois, eu tirei um cochilinho e logo já avistamos o Pão de Açúcar, o que fez o ânimo a bordo explodir de alegria. Entramos na baía da Guanabara e vi lugares inéditos: Praia Vermelha, os fortes, Niterói... Foi muito legal! Chegar na Urca foi super tranquilo e as poitas pareceram bastante seguras. Adoramos essa experiência de ancorar na cidade. Amei ter vindo pra cá!

On the last day of the year 2018 I flew with my daughter for the first time in a paraglider. She had been watching countless times and asking when she could have her own harness. We tried her harness in the swing at home and it seemed like she was not scared at all to try it in the real glider. So on saturday the 31st of December we drove to the desert to our favourite paragliding dune and soon discovered the conditions were ideal. We took off and flew along the dunes for about 20 minutes and loved every second of it! The glider used in this video is my beloved Ozone Buzz Z3. Nachdem wir entlang der belgischen Küste bis nach Boulogne-sur-Mer gesegelt sind & von Frankreich auf wunderbare Weise begrüsst wurden, mussten wir uns entscheiden. Weiter entlang der französischen Küste oder über den Ärmelkanal nach Südengland? Wir entschieden uns für die südenglische Küste. Von Boulogne-sur-Mer ging es weiter nach Newhaven & mit einigen kleinen Pannen segelten wir weiter in den Solent. Chichester Harbour war unser Ziel. Herd Herd hurra! Es gibt wieder viele neue kleine Projekte bei unserem Refit der Reinke. Während Steffi sich dieses Wochenende primär um die Dämmung des Decks und der Bordwand kümmert, installiere ich neue Gasfedern für unsere Luken. Da die Konstruktion war vorher etwas wackelig und wir erhoffen wir uns dadurch etwas mehr Stabilität. Auch werden in das frisch fertiggestellte Deck wieder Löcher gebohrt :-) Diesmal aber mit Absicht, um diverse Kabeldurchführungen und Decksaugen anzubringen. Zum Glück macht das Wetter mit, sodass auch die Grundierung und die Rostversieglung noch an die frischen Löcher aufgebracht werden kann. Der Herd wird final installiert und mit ein mitgebrachten Materialien in der Galley kanadisch aufgegangen. Zum Schluss kommen noch die Doraden an die Reihe, die wir wieder an Ihrem vorgesehen Platz an Deck festschrauben. This week we experience more bad weather, Trace finally gets her stitches out enabling us to leave, however we find some damage to our boat which leaves us marina bound for a while longer. We witness the aftermath of an unfortunate accident at sea between a fellow Hanse sailing boat and a large ship. Making the most of our time marina bound, we visit the famous healing temple of the Greek gods of medicine and healing, where Hippocrates is said to have learnt medicine, as well as the tree under which Hippocrates taught his students. This week we got to spend some great time with Family. We planned on taking a full week plus off work and boat projects while we went and visited family and stayed with Deb's Brother and Sister in Law. Wow, We had a great time. We started by picking up Chazzy from school on the last day of school before the Christmas break. She got off early and we were waiting with the car packed and ready to go. From there we hit the road and drove about 6 hours or so to get just south of Houston. We stayed the night at a nice full suite Marriott down in Sugarland Texas. The next morning we headed off to Corpus and were at Daniel and Katherine's by noon. Over the next 2 days, my son and his wife and my daughter would all come to stay as well. They were so gracious hosting all of us and had a great house and location to do so. All in all, it was Daniel and Katherine, Kim and Maci (niece and 1 year old), Spencer (son) and his wife, Whitney (daughter) and Myself, Deb and Chazzy and Swab. We celebrated Maci's first birthday on 12/22, and Swabs 5th birthday on Christmas Day. We all had matching Christmas Pajamas and sadly there was a virus going around the house over those few days. Spencer got hit first on Saturday night and into Sunday, for Danny and Katherine it was all day Christmas day and for Whitney and Deb, it was the day after Christmas. Somehow Chazzy, Swab and I all avoided it :) We celebrated Deb's birthday on the 28th and were back home on the 29th. What a GREAT week it was. Once home we got back on the boat and saw the sunken dinghy. Granted I knew it was filling with water and before I left I threw a battery operated pump in it and figured I would just let it run until the 3 D Cell batteries died, but sadly it didn't pump out the dinghy and it was sitting low, with water over the battery and even the main battery switch and fuse box. I am going to have to do some work on our little yacht tender. It has also been raining, a lot and sadly we were still seeing drips in the boat. This was a very dejected moment for both of us. Drips over our bunk, drips around the mast and drips from under the side deck where I have the port out. I am hoping it is just because of the port being out, but don't know. Either way, we decided to extend our stay in the camper for 1 more month to see if we can get some more stuff done. Deb got to varnishing down below while I focused on raising the dinghy. A lot of Bavarias is build with a fitted bushing which holds the rudder in place. Over time the bushing will swell and make the rudder difficult to turn. The fix for this problem is to mount some roller bearings from Jefa and the problem will be eliminated. Every year the bottom bearing must be hosed down with fresh water to remove any salt water so it can’t crystallize. And every third year the rudder must be removed and the bearrings must be cleaned with soap water and a dish brush. Rudder and bearings : https://www.jefa.com/rudder.htm
