After a few tries, I manage to locate the offending hole in the bottom of the main water tank. After cleaning things up, I slather it with 3M 5200, and we seem to be watertight again. We are learning so much from the planking process. After having cut and installed the garboard planks, we are now on to the first broadstrakes. These next couple of planks are going on right after the garboard and are also oak and need to be pretty sturdy. As these planks are also still fairly low on the boat, we are still dealing with the stiffness of the bottom of the frames and the bronze floor timbers. This makes these planks, also a bit of a challenge to instal. Not only that, but in contrast to the garboard plank, we do not have the 90 degree angle of the rabbet on the bottom side of the plank. This means that we need to match the angle where the top of the garboard (and all subsequent planks) meet the frames. This is a constantly changing bevel all the way down the boat. To cut this bevel quickly and efficiently, we borrowed a tip from a shipwright ;) (Thanks Lou!). We modified a skilsaw to be able to cut and compound changing bevel with the use of a clamp screw to adjust the angle of the cut as the saw is running. This has been a fantastic way to cut this bevel and has taken so much time out of the process of fitting the planks. Our sail down the US West coast continues and in this episode it's time for us to go around the infamous Point Conception. Sailing again after a short break on the mainland. Weighing anchor in the tight harbor was a bit of a challenge but I got out alright. I sail through some light winds when suddenly the wind flips 180° and strengthens. I make it safely to Honolua bay after beating to windward for several hours. I start to plan my trip to Oahu. We left Vanuatu with a little concern about safety in Papua New Guinea as many government websites warned about unsafe conditions. We also considered going via Australia, but that did not make much sense. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with Port Moresby city skyline and nice Royal Papua Yacht Club. Our main goal was to get Indonesian Visa here as in a week starts our Indonesian Rally. Meanwhile we explored surroundings – Ela Beach, Nature Park, Papua New Guinea Museum and Port Moresby as well. Everyone was very nice with us and happy to assist although every shop had a lot of security and while having dinner with local sailors in a yacht Club we heard many sketchy stories that it is indeed dangerous. We got visa quickly and we were ready to leave but as soon as we left Royal Papua Yacht Club we’ve got hit by 30+ knots of wind right against us! Our food and water situation isn't good so we head back to the local Guna Village of Nargana to stock up. We hear there is a monkey in town kept as a pet so decided to check it and bring some bananas for it. We also hear that its' living condition are not ideal and that some cruisers are trying to raise funds from other sailors to rescue the poor monkey. It is a cute bundle of all legs and arms and is very affectionate towards me (Plukky). I think it senses that I am not too far evolved from it and therefore good company. (Ep.91 So our mast is prepped & ready to go, so while we wait we decided to get started on lifting up the boat to get the keels inspected and prepped for some antifouling. Once that was done it was time to hoist up the mast! We have been waiting for this day forever! It sure was a special one. We tensioned up our pretty sweet synthetic rigging as well. As well as got our lines prepped to pull up some sails to see how they look (condition wise) What's left on our list you may ask?? 1.Window shades 2. Water-maker Installation 3.Install the rest of our deck fittings 4.Finish our instruments installation (radar mainly) 5.Put up our running and standing rigging 6. Hoist up our sails. 7.Install the engine 8.Name goes on 9.Get a life raft & do all the safety equipment 10.Prep our dinghy (get a outboard motor for it) 11.Epoxy hull before anti fouling 12. We've been getting a lot of you guys asking for some more affordable and smaller boats than what we've been showing, so we've reached out to a few boats that we think would be good to tour and this is the first "smaller" boat we're touring (For clarification, this is definitely not a small boat, just in comparison to the other's we've been on recently it is smaller). We swim, snorkel, sail, and paddle board at Alabaster Bay! Alabaster Bay in Eleuthera is one of our very favorite anchorages. The water is incredibly clear, the beach is simply beautiful, and the anchorage itself it nicely sheltered from the prevailing easterly winds. There's not much else in this area. No restaurants, no marina, no grocery store - but the reason Alabaster Bay is so wonderful is because it lacks those amenities. Part of the beauty of this place is that there are usually very few other people here, and it's those cruiser conveniences that tend to attract the crowd. No crowd here. Just an unspoiled, natural island paradise. Of all the places we've been in the Bahamas, Alabaster Bay ranks very, VERY highly on our list of favorite places. Enjoy! Every two years 100s of sailors embark on an adventure, race, lifetime's ambition, to sail in the Rolext Fastnet race. There were two crews from First Class Sailing who took part. MUSIC by Rene Sullivan Here's our interview with Wak Kamsol Warjan. He bought this Toyota Hiace Turbo Diesel 3.0 Campervan and drove it to UK back in 2016. It was a vehicle Rene and I wanted to buy off him but the price was Rm85K and way out of our budget - from there we proceeded with our Vanhalen instead until we found Grizzly for Rm17,000. In the end, Wak Kamsol Warjan found a Merc Sprinter and he converted that into a campervan. He went through the entire process of design to changing his grant with JPJ from Van to Caravan. This video will be out after the Jacinda and Martin one. There is a section for 4 seconds where my audio is missing, there is a glitch causing this and we are troubleshooting why this happened - we decided to release the video as per because it would take at least another day to re-edit, render and upload. Since it is at an area where the words said do not take from the story and info - we are moving onto the next video edit which is MJ Road Trippin - Jacinda and Martin the Singaporean couple driving to Portugal. Sadly, Wak didn't snap any photos of his entire journey from Malaysia to UK so we couldn't include much B roll in the edit. Nonetheless, we tried our best to korek as much info as he was willing to provide.
