With the NEW CREW on board, we sail to a Surfers Dream Land chasing waves. The Mentawai Islands, here we come!! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we pick up our new crew, Tash and Teebs, who are from back home in Australia. These couple of legends looked after Marley years ago when we first departed Australia bound for New Caledonia. Making them more Marley's friends than ours! Arriving to Nandji in the dark, we head out to sea on an overnight passage to the Mentawai Islands. A surfers dream land. These green horns were in for a ride as we motored out of the safety of Padang harbour under a full moon. An hour into the sail we are smoked by a heavy squall and for the rest of the night we upwind sail into the building choppy sea, strong winds and torrential rain. Welcome to the sailing life!! Arriving to the islands after a gruelling 20 hours at sea, we head straight to where the first surf charter boats we are see are anchored and get ourselves the first little warm up surf for the trip. For the following few days we hang in the area and surf Telescopes as the strong South East trade wind is relentless. We go diving and cook ourselves a massive feast in a beach fire. This is living! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf before our big crossing! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! Woohoooo, we finally made it to the famous Corinth Canal in Greece! The most expensive Canal per mile in the world. It is quite an impressive drive through this 3 mile long canal. It was first opened in 1893, took 12 years to dig out, is about 8 meters deep, 25 meters wide and every year about 11.000 ships pass through. We are one of those 11.000 lucky ships that get to experience this! Join us on SV Blue while we go through the Corinth Canal and sail on to Aegina, an Island south of Athens. Six months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, not really knowing what we're doing. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world via the wind, always being surrounded by the ocean. Sailboat life is super different from land life and can be pretty rough at times. see the little things is the documentary of our endeavour of simplifying life, decelerating pace, and practicing mindfulness. Follow our adventures when you are curious to see how we mess up and fix it up again! We are currently still sailing Greece, but will head over to Italy and beyond soon. Owning a luxury yacht is the dream of many, and achievable for more people than you may think. Some busy business owners just don't have time to figure out the purchase process though, and so are put off exploring yacht ownership due to time constraints. This series of videos is designed to take the mystery out of yacht ownership, showing not only the process involved in buying a yacht but also the costs. Sailing a Catalan Catamaran, Patin a vela, Pati Catala or Patin Catalan off Palamos. Great fun as it is a beach catamaran with a single sail without a boom and no rudder. You steer by moving your weight along the length and width of the boat's deck and with the sheet.

We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Neue trifft alte Welt. Kann das gut gehen?

This week we spend a bit of time as a family off the boat and in the camper. We had a great time. Swab and I got back into the routine of having our Saturday morning date day. We went to Starbucks in downtown Fort Myers. While having our coffee, Swab asked if she could go to "City Hall." I know, right? Where does she get this stuff? But I took her to the downtown court building, and we found an enormous banyan tree. We played around in that for a little while. Then we returned and spent some time at the pool and game room with the girls later that day. I relaxed with some good coffee, and as you all know, I like my coffee. Below are the links to the products that I used in this video for coffee. I would highly recommend them for sure! Manual Burr Grinder - https://amzn.to/31JkYaR French Press - https://amzn.to/31DP4fC Goose Neck Electric Kettle - https://amzn.to/2KIWEPu I also learned a harsh lesson about the holding tanks on the camper. I decided to make it easier on Deb while I was out of town, I left the black and grey tanks open and connected to the RV Resort Sewer connection. I learned why that doesn't work well for the black tank and go into some detail on what happens and why you should not do that. I hope you enjoy the video. My sails is renovated by a sailmaker in Aarhus Denmark due to some small repairs. The genua is then almost ready to mount but before that I seal of a small hole in one of the sail pocket on the genua. Info from the seldén furlex manual : 1. Tension the forestay for hard close-reach sailing before the sail is hoisted. 2. Turn the tack ring counter-clockwise if the furling line exits on the port side of the drum. 3. When line exits on the port side of the line drum, the sail should be hoisted in the starboard groove. Note: The Swedish made instrument is in the next video.

The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. The keel and rudder are fitted shortly before launch. Thank you! Tony
A glassy, moonlit overnight passage took us from Moorea to Huahine, reputedly the only island Captain James Cook would recognise if he were to come back today. Huahine is nicknamed the 'Garden of Eden' for good reason, its lush hills are encircled by a ring of reef over which giant surf constantly breaks making this a surfing, diving and hiking paradise. We loved the huge variety of tropical fish and crystal clear water and enjoyed the famous Sunday afternoon island feast at Chez Tara. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.

For us the challenge is amplified because of the high energy demands of our cameras, computers, batteries, and various filming equipment that we require to produce our ongoing travel video series. Our Inergy solar generator has been incredibly helpful to insure that we always have sufficient power available when we need it. Also, it's not just "power" in itself that we require, but also CLEAN power. Our Macbook Pro computers require PURE SINE WAVE power in order to operate correctly, and this solar generator provides that as well with it's built in pure sine wave inverter. The way we use our Inergy solar generator is by having it capture the extra solar power that our AGM battery bank cannot absorb after it reaches full capacity for the day. To do this, we simply plug the solar generator into one of our 12v volt outlets once our boat batteries are topped off, and our Inergy Solar Generator catches all the additional power that we otherwise would not be able to take advantage of. We use our Inergy Solar Generator to run our MANY battery chargers, laptops, vacuum cleaner, electric shaver, ipad, and MUCH more. Basically if the device runs on either 12v or 110v - this solar generator will power it, charge it, or run it. Overall we're incredibly satisfied with how well this little device has performed. From this point forward we'll definitely have an Inergy Solar Generator onboard with us wherever we go. - - - - - - - - - - * The link below automatically applies the coupon code "sailboat" and will give you the maximum site-wide discount available. Leaking Lead Acid Batteries on a Sailboat! (Battery Box is Destroyed!)Patrick Childress Sailing #45)
Leaking lead acid batteries on a sailboat are bad news! Leaking Lead acid batteries have eaten a hole inside our boat...and now we need to rebuild the battery box on our cruising sailboat BRICK HOUSE, because a lead acid Battery leak or lead acid battery fumes have caused a lot of acid corrosion, melting, and dissolving of the battery compartment causing the wood floor to rot out under our bunk as battery acid ate it all the way through to the bilges. Patrick Childress explains what he thinks may have caused wood corrosion in the battery compartment, shows you the extent of the damage caused by leaking lead acid batteries, and what he plans to do to prevent it in the future. We have always had water-miser caps, but not on this latest batch of batteries. Perhaps it was the use of these Battery caps...we don’t feel they were keeping things dry on the batteries...or possibly it was from NOT using them this past year. He explains how he believes the wood was destroyed by the acid in our Trojan T-105 lead acid batteries, during massively bad weather we had this year, in the Indian Ocean, or overfilling of the battery water. Was it the gasses emitted during equalization of batteries? Was it spilling of electrolytes after overfilling the battery with battery water, or spilling out during rough weather? He takes you through the demolition of the tabbing and wood floors, and bulkhead right through to the galley until he gets to solid wood. He then begins the repair of the rotten wood with fiberglass. Next time he shows you the rebuild of the battery compartment, floors, and walls. The battery box will soon be stronger than ever, and resistant to battery acid. The question everyone is asking...is this an argument for upgrading to LiFePO4 lithium iron phosphate batteries? Sailing the world/Sailing around the world is not always about cruising remote islands and traveling. Sometimes, you have to go in to a boatyard, RIP the sailboat apart and do serious boat restoration and boat repair, diy, like when leaking lead acid batteries eat a hole. Sometimes you have to hire professionals and sometimes it just a lot of hard work yourself to repair a sailboat, and make it seaworthy again. These marine batteries, due to the corrosion caused by leaking lead acid batteries could have been a big disaster on the high seas if we didn’t make fiberglass repairs to where more than 350 pounds of lead acid batteries sit and power our boat. Patrick Childress calls on his past experiences in rot repair on old houses, to fix the wood rot on the floor of our battery box/battery compartment. Sail life, and Sailing the world necessitates many hours of boring sailboat repair with lots of dust and dirt. Rebecca was very glad to be away from the boat, visiting her parents while this video was being filmed but will be back this weekend to start lots of boat repairs herself. Maybe next time, we go to LiFePo4 lithium batteries. We just found out...same problem with the start leading acid battery on the other side of the boat! LifePO4 batteries may be our solution.. “Freedom Won” in South Africa, who produces a new kind of marine lithium battery set up for sailboats. (http://www.FreedomWon.co.za) If you are concerned that “drop in” LiFePO4 batteries with built in BMS modules aren’t ready for the marine world, but that putting in a whole DIY lithium yourself is daunting, Freedom Won is a GREAT compromise for World Cruising sailboats. They have the most expensive, most advanced BMS, prismatic cells made by one of the top quality cell producers, instead of the cylindrical cells that the drops ins are criticized for. This is all enclosed in an aluminum casing so that it makes it very easy for a beginner to deal with yet you have full access to programming the BMS down the road, and replacing parts if it it becomes necessary. With the drop ins...something breaks, you get a new battery! Not always possible in the remote corners of the world! Shot on location from wherever they are, Lisa knows first hand that it’s not always bikini’s and martini’s when you choose to live your life at sea. In fact, sometime’s it’s doing laundry in a bucket, dirty hair, sticky skin, and dragging anchor. But when the sun is shining, the seas are calm, and the boat isn’t broken, it is magical.
