After dressing No Regrets II with every flag we own, the Jambatan Angkat drawbridge in Kuala Terengganu is opened especially for the Sail Malaysia Rally to enter the marina — a truly spectacular sight! 🚤🎉 With traffic stopped and locals lining the bridge, we felt like royalty sailing through, waving to the crowd as we passed beneath. A quick drone flight captured the amazing views of the drawbridge, marina, and city from above — what a welcome! During our stay in Terengganu, we explored Chinatown, wandered through quiet night markets, and joined the rally for a cultural tour that included: 🌀 Visiting the local markets 🎨 Watching traditional batik dyeing at the NACC Batik Pavilion 🏛️ A tour of the Kuala Terengganu Museum, complete with a welcome lunch, local dance performances, and craft demonstrations Before clearing out of Malaysia at the Sultan Mahmud International Airport, we tackled one last challenge — refuelling No Regrets II by jerry cans from the dock. Sailing Misool you can find some amazing secrets to uncover so long as you are willing to explore. Zipping around the thousands of little islets we found some really amazing caves. Mostly unmarked, these caves showed themselves with some stalactites in the entry. Some of them were overgrown at the entry but we bush-bashed our way in and explored. Marie is not a huge fan of being deep underground but stuck with it and also saw some of the best stuff. Eli had no issues with the dark and tight places. Misool is truly a very special place. Since our old rear cockpit table was another warranty fail, and the upstairs one is less than impressive, we decided to do some boat DIY and make new tables. Instead of teak or fiberglass, we've gone carbon fiber and foam, designed to be lightweight, strong, and perfectly suited for life at sea. You’ll see how we shape the foam cores, reinforce the hinge areas, and prep everything for a flawless carbon layup. Designed off the Bermuda 30, she’s a solid-fiberglass, full-keel cruiser with integral concrete ballast, teak decks, and that unmistakable Cheoy Lee craftsmanship. Below decks you’ll find warm teak-and-holly floors, a cozy galley with room for a propane stove, a solid-fuel heater, V-berth forward, and captain-and-mate bunks in the salon. Power comes from a tough 31-hp Universal diesel, and she carries a full suite of sails — main, mizzen, jib, and spinnaker — plus wood masts, new stainless lifelines (2020), and new steering cables (2022). Survival mode looks a little different at anchor. With the inverter gone, we start rethinking how to power life aboard Dark Angel. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, still at Staniel Cay, we pull out our lightning-damaged Magnum inverter and see what’s left of it. After a quick swim in the clear blue water, we get to work wiring our 100-litre Dometic freezer directly to the batteries for DC power, so we can finally give the generator a break and enjoy a little quiet aboard. ⚠️ Lightning Strike Update We were directly struck by lightning. Navigation systems, running lights, anchor lights, work lights, a large freezer, and even our keel were damaged. We're still facing VAT, duty, exchange rates, customs brokerage, and a costly haul-out for keel repairs in the Dominican Republic. Current items still needing repair/replacement include our Isotherm freezer in the saloon, our AIS and keel repairs. Also, our newly replaced wind instruments aren't working.
