We’ve been living aboard our sailboat for 7yrs and in the Bahamas now for the past three months while Ryan’s been working with the Boy Scouts teaching sailing and running adventures out of the Abacos. But on his final trip, news hit that a Category 5 hurricane was tracking straight for us! With little time to prepare, Brittni scrambled at the house to get everything ready while Ryan was still offshore. We packed up, got the boat ready and braced ourselves. Thankfully, the storm veered away at the last moment… but it was a clear sign it was definitely time to leave! As soon as it passed, we set sail with our baby Oakley and dog Jackson onboard dodging squalls and heavy weather on the way out of the Bahamas. After months of planning, it’s finally time to move our 43ft aluminum sailboat under a covered shed! 💪⛵️ This is a huge milestone that allows us to get back to work on our dream project and push forward with the build of this expedition boat that will one day cross oceans. 🌎✨ 👨‍👩‍👦 We are Duca and Roberta (and now baby boy Oli) a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. It’s Respect for the Aged Day here in Japan 🇯🇵—a national holiday that began back in 1947 as “Old Folks Day” before being renamed in the ’60s. I just learned that you officially qualify as “aged” here at 70… which makes me a newbie to the celebration! We’re hauled out in northern Borneo to kick off our repower. The old engine is out, the new bed is in—today we start the install with the ZF SD-12 saildrive before bringing our Nanni N4.65 aboard. In this episode: Why we had to separate the saildrive (tiny engine room!) and lower the upper unit using a roof pad-eye.Catching the splined coupling sleeve and protecting the diaphragm and a star-pattern, stepped torque on the clamp-ring bolts for even compression. What we like about the SD-12: solid build, double-seal diaphragm, service tube for in-boat oil changes Plus a little insight into our family life here in the sleepy fishing town of Kudat. Navegamos a vela desde el puerto de Punta Lagoa hasta Sálvora. Salimos de la Ría de Vigo en una bonita mañana y ponemos rumbo a las islas Cíes. En principio viento en calma, pero rápido vemos como nuestras velas mayor y génova se inflan y ponen a nuestro velero, el Aristos Tres, un Fortuna 9, a volar con gracia y estilo. Vamos haciendo bordos. Ya sabéis, nos da el viento en la proa y este tipo de veleros no tiene la posibilidad de navegar proa al viento. Al final de la tarde, casi al caer el sol, llegamos a la isla de Sálvora. Es un momento mágico. Acabamos la jornada en la playa de Silgar, en Sanxenxo. 바다는 언제나 신비롭다. 겉으로 보기엔 고요하지만 안으로 들어가면 상상하지 못한 생명들이 숨어 있다. 오늘은 요트 선석에 붙은 해초를 정리했다. 지난번에는 스크류 프로펠러에 톳이 잔뜩 감겨 있었는데, 이번에도 해초 사이에서 성게, 멍게, 소라 같은 바다 생물들이 모습을 드러냈다. 그중에는 정체를 알 수 없는 콧물 같은 낯선 생물도 있었다. 살아 있는 듯 꿈틀거리고 내장 같은 것도 보여 한동안 눈을 뗄 수 없었다. 단순한 청소였지만 마치 신기한 해양 생물들로 가득한 작은 아쿠아리움을 다녀온 기분이었다. 바다는 여전히 신비롭다. 그 속에서 만나는 경험 하나하나가 새롭고 신기하게 다가온다.

Caddy-Bett Das Team von videomare stellt in diesem Video keinen Eriba- oder Segelfilm vor, sondern widmet sich dem Caddy, dem Zugfahrzeug des Eribas. Bei Fahrten mit dem Caddy allein bestand bisher keine Möglichkeit zum Übernachten, falls kein Hotel oder eine andere Unterkunft verfügbar war. Die auf dem Markt erhältlichen Campingausstattungen für den Caddy sind vielfältig und kostenintensiv; zudem beeinflussen sie die Fahrzeugnutzung. Ein Umbau zum Mini-Wohnmobil kam nicht infrage, da der Transporter weiterhin regulär genutzt wird. Deshalb wurde eine eigenständige Lösung gewählt. Konzept Das Konzept für den Caddy 5 (Baujahr 2024, Kurzversion) sieht vor, dass alle Sitze im Fahrzeug verbleiben und keine festen Verschraubungen erforderlich sind. Lediglich der Einzelsitz hinter dem Beifahrersitz wurde ausgebaut, um ein E-Bike unterzubringen. Das Einzelbett ist hinter dem Fahrersitz positioniert, während die umgeklappte Rückbank als Mittelteil dient. Die Konstruktion lässt sich auch als Doppelbett umsetzen. Liegefläche Die hintere Liegefläche befindet sich zwischen Heckklappe und Zweiersitzbank. Beide Liegeflächen reichten für eine komfortable Länge jedoch nicht aus. Daher wurde für das Kopfteil eine spezielle Variante entwickelt, bei der das Kopfbrett auf den Stangen der Kopfstützen aufliegt. So ergibt sich eine Liegefläche von 190 x 75 cm. Die Bettkonstruktion kann zusammengeklappt und problemlos verstaut werden. Arbeitsaufwand und Kosten Die Materialkosten für das Einzelbett betragen rund 60 € inklusive Zuschnitt. Der Bau kann von handwerklich erfahrenen Personen an einem Nachmittag umgesetzt werden. Als Matratze eignet sich eine selbst aufblasende Luftmatratze aus dem Campingbereich. Im Praxistest zeigte sich das Bett im Caddy als stabile und funktionale Lösung.
