We're taking on our toughest offshore passage so far - rough seas, wild weather, and everything in between.. 🐠 Become a Patreon + help save the ocean 🌊👇 https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingAmi After finally making it to Scawfell Island, we hunker down for some much-needed rest… and then things get a little crazy 😅 We go treasure hunting on a remote island, launch our very own sailing galley cooking show, and basically make a complete mess of the boat. Meanwhile, Sarah finds her own kind of “treasure”… which may or may not just be a rusty chunk of metal. 🏝️⚓ Does this video qualify for our @MasterChefAustraliaChannel entry? MORE INFO: "Ambergris is a valuable, waxy, and solid substance produced in the digestive system of sperm whales, formed around indigestible objects like squid beaks. Initially foul-smelling and dark, it develops a musky, pleasant aroma as it ages and is exposed to sunlight and saltwater. Historically known as "floating gold" or "treasure of the sea," ambergris contains ambrien, an odorless alcohol, which is used as a long-lasting fixative and base note in the perfume industry." "Amber is classified as an organic gemstone, meaning it's a natural material used for adornment that is not a mineral or crystal. It is a fossilized tree resin that has hardened over millions of years and is prized for its warm colors and unique qualities, including its ability to preserve ancient plant and animal inclusion." After years of living at sea, the "dream boat" checklist starts to look a little different. Glossy brochures and sleek hull lines get replaced by hard-earned lessons learned while fixing things in the rain, dragging anchor at 2 a.m., or sweltering through a tropical night. This isn't a fantasy list. It's my personal, non-negotiable list of the 10 features I absolutely want in my next sailboat, based on real-world experience. These are the things that separate a boat that just gets by from one that lets you thrive and truly enjoy the cruising lifestyle. We're talking about the features that keep you safe, sane, self-sufficient, and comfortable when you're far from shore. My 10 Non-Negotiables for a Liveaboard Cruiser: 00:00 - Intro 00:49 - Shallow Draft Without Sacrificing Performance 01:45 - Proper Ventilation 02:40 - A Real Shower Setup 03:34 - Dedicated Workbench or Tool Area 04:30 - Reliable Windvane Steering 05:30 - Large, Well-Insulated Fridge and Freezer 06:25 - Decent Tankage for Water and Fuel 07:21 - A Comfortable Sea Berth 08:19 - Cockpit Designed for Safety and Comfort 09:15 - Bulletproof Ground Tackle Setup 10:15 - Ending What's on your "must-have" list for your next boat? We are Gav and Shezz an Aussie couple with a dream to sail and scuba dive around the world. We bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 in October 2023 with zero sailing experience but the belief that we can do this. We have filmed our journey from looking for boats, buying the boat and downsizing our house so we can liveaboard and all the messy wonderful life stuff in between. Join us now as we start to get our boat prepared for liveaboard life. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. We promise you will have a laugh! Seabird, our 1€ sailboat came without a mast and it had the mast off for 15 years. We didn't know if the rigging was right or if the mast was in really good condition... It took us quite some time to work on the mast and rebuild everything. And last week you saw us putting it on, but you also saw us making some mistakes. The rig is not quite right. And this week is all about how we're going to fix it and if we can fix it. 🌊 *Join our journey* as we restore Seabird from an abandoned sailboat to a home on the sea!
