After a wonderful month (plus), Silvia is flying out and I am solo again! and underway as quickly as I can for a race against daylight. Making it easy for you to go through the boat shopping process with a step-by-step series based on Melanie Neale's book "Boat Buying Basics" (Sheridan House 2025). Here's where you start!

Buying a sailboat is exciting… until someone says you need a boat survey. Suddenly you’re looking at a potential $2,000–$3,000 inspection bill, a long report full of technical notes, and a big question: Is it actually worth it and do you really need to have a survey done? In this video we break down the real truth about boat surveys — what they actually cover, what they don’t cover, and why many buyers misunderstand the entire process. When is it okay to skip the survey and just buy the boat. If you're shopping for an older sailboat, this decision can make the difference between buying your dream boat… or inheriting someone else’s expensive problems.

In this video we take a mini tour around Barbados in 2026, exploring some of the island’s most interesting boating spots — both on and off the water. We start at the beautiful Port St Charles marina, where luxury yachts sit in crystal-clear turquoise water and beachfront homes have their boats moored right outside. With the Caribbean sea sitting at a warm 28°C, it’s not a bad place to begin the day. 🇧🇧🌊 From there we hop into our rather unusual “press car” and head across the island, stopping along the rugged Atlantic coast to take in some dramatic scenery — including the famous mushroom-shaped rock formation and stunning coastal views that feel very different from the calm west coast beaches. One of the most interesting stops is a small local boatyard, packed with character and filled with all sorts of boats in various stages of repair. From narrow skiffs and old MasterCrafts to simple fishing boats with Yamaha outboards, it’s a fascinating glimpse into the practical side of Caribbean boating. Finally, we head out onto the water aboard a catamaran sailing from Bridgetown, cruising along the west coast with beautiful beaches, calm seas and views of famous spots like Sandy Lane. It’s the perfect way to end a day exploring one of the Caribbean’s most scenic boating destinations. 🌊⛵ ⏱️ Timestamps: 0:07 Port St Charles Marina & luxury yachts 0:53 Our unusual “press car” around the island 2:07 Atlantic coast views & Mushroom Rock 3:04 Exploring a hidden local boatyard 7:44 Boarding a catamaran in Bridgetown 8:37 Mini tour of the catamaran 9:39 Tour of the Colony Club hotel and beach 🔔 Like & Subscribe for more exclusive factory tours and boat reviews! This weeks episode is a bit special. We set sail to Al Rams to discover and explore a new region we haven’t seen yet in our beloved Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. We didn’t really mention anything regarding the US-Israel-Iran conflict in the video itself, we thought it’s better to make the video about what we stand for, sailing. However, two hours in the sail we heard the first missiles getting intercepted above the UAE's territory. Scary? Absolutely! But did we ever really feel threatened? Not really. The UAE's Air Defence did (and are still doing) an amazing job at keeping the people safe. As expats it is a great feeling trusting a government which excels in leadership under pressure. The past few days at the anchorage where only every now and then interrupted by a loud bang of an interception, besides that, it was a great time here. We met super nice people, enjoyed great food and relaxed a bit with a premium view on the mountains which makes Ras Al Khaimah unique to us. So yes, the UAE is a safe country to live in and a great country to sail! Right now, we hope the situation will get better soon and try to keep living our lives as normal as possible. This episode is for everyone, also for the ones affected by the conflict situation we are dealing with right now. Maybe these 25 minutes at least can act as a distraction for you! :-) We will see you in the next one, your Layla Del Mare Crew, Lisa and Lars :-)

From templating and cutting to sanding and multiple coats of varnish, this job was a full process — and definitely not a quick one. And when we finally step back for the reveal? The new cabinetry paired with the fresh teak and holly completely transforms the space. Escapade honestly looks like a different boat. If you’re into boat refits, DIY sailing projects, teak and holly flooring installs, or behind-the-scenes sailboat life — you’re in the right place. Products we used in this project: Teak & Holly Panels: World Panel Products American Style Teak & Holly Plywood Veneer Website: https://www.worldpanel.com Location: Riviera Beach, Florida (but they ship all over the place) Phone: +1 (561) 840-0509 Varnish used on the flooring and cabinetry: TotalBoat Gleam Marine Spar Varnish – Amber Finish We used both Gloss and Satin to build up the coats and finish the look. #ParallelHorizons: a shift in rhythm… 🏝️🌊 Aboard their FP51, the day starts early. Before 7AM, the deck turns into an open-air workout space. Complete isolation. Just the two of them, the boat, and the rising light. Then everything unfolds. An impromptu stop at Waterlemon Cay to explore the reefs. A jump into the water. And a few hours later, a completely different atmosphere in Coral Bay. In this episode, there’s no fixed schedule. There’s an energy to follow.

► The Bulgarian brand Omaya Yachts, launched its first model, the Omaya 50, last summer. This powercat, like most of its competitors, is one of these newcomers to the market, selling not only living space - in this case 1,615 square feet (150 square meters) - but also luxury, as we were able to see during our visit at the latest Cannes Yachting Festival. ► The overall design is not to be outdone, featuring rather clean lines. The large saloon can accommodate 10 people at table - in either dining or coffee configuration. The hulls can house a huge Owner’s suite to port and two guest cabins to starboard, or four cabins. The forepeaks can be customized according to the captain’s wishes. On deck, there are two cockpits connected via side-decks or through the nacelle’s forward door. A large aft platform completes the sugarscoops. The flybridge is accessible via two staircases. ► The builder has two other units on order and has just announced an upcoming 53-footer. ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Omaya Yachts Architect: i-Yacht Length overall: 49’2” (14.98 m) Waterline length: 46’10” (14.27 m) Beam: 27’6” (8.39 m) Air draft: 22’9” (6.94 m) Draft: 3’5” (1.05 m) Displacement: 45,200 lbs (20.5 t) Motors: 2 x 320 HP or 2 x 440 HP Fuel: 528 US gallons (2,000 l) Number of cabins: 3 or 4 CE Category: A12 Price: € 2,350,000 ex-tax ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests!
