Survival mode looks a little different at anchor. With the inverter gone, we start rethinking how to power life aboard Dark Angel. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, still at Staniel Cay, we pull out our lightning-damaged Magnum inverter and see what’s left of it. After a quick swim in the clear blue water, we get to work wiring our 100-litre Dometic freezer directly to the batteries for DC power, so we can finally give the generator a break and enjoy a little quiet aboard. ⚠️ Lightning Strike Update We were directly struck by lightning. Navigation systems, running lights, anchor lights, work lights, a large freezer, and even our keel were damaged. We're still facing VAT, duty, exchange rates, customs brokerage, and a costly haul-out for keel repairs in the Dominican Republic. Current items still needing repair/replacement include our Isotherm freezer in the saloon, our AIS and keel repairs. Also, our newly replaced wind instruments aren't working. At the norht coast of the Gulf of Corinth, hidden between steep mountains and deep vallies, lies the world famous ancient city of Delphi. We visited the old ruins and were impressed by the 2 km in which the complex was build. We read about how kings and generals, not only from Greece but from Italy and Turkye made the long journey to the Oracle to ask their questions. In our latest blog we write about how the ritual of asking questions went, how the Oracle gave her answer and what examples were of questions and answers. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! 🌍 Dans ce 36e épisode de notre tour du monde en famille en catamaran, nous quittons Mayreau pour retourner aux Tobago Cays.
