Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Canon R50 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Action scenes and small blogging is done with an Insta 360 Ace2. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also use an Insta 360 and have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have limited communications with the outside World. It's a project we started because the old rear cockpit table was yet another Leopard Catamarans / Robertson & Caine warranty fail, and the upstairs one had a design that could easily be improved to more functional in our daily lives as full-time liveaboard sailors. In this episode, straight from the hardstand in Trinidad, we get to vacuum bagging sections of the table. It's a new process to us, involving a variety of vacuum bagging supplies such as peel ply, sealant tape, bagging film, breather fabric, mold release, resin tubes and a vacuum pump, all to ensure the vacuum bagging process goes smoothly. The goal to infuse West Systems epoxy resin into the carbon fiber to create DIY catamaran tables that are strong, functional and light. Join us on an unforgettable boat journey as we sail south and encounter an incredible experience with dolphins swimming right up to our Nautitech 46 Open sailing catamaran. We were sailing in the beautiful waters near Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout, taking in the stunning scenery and enjoying the thrill of being out on the open water, when suddenly we were surrounded by these intelligent and playful creatures. As we were while one sailing, we couldn't believe our eyes as the dolphins started to swim alongside our boat, their dorsal fins glinting in the sunlight. This amazing marine life encounter is a must-see for anyone who loves sailing and the ocean, and we feel lucky to have experienced it on our sailing catamaran. The dolphins seemed to be enjoying themselves just as much as we were, leaping and splashing in the waves as we sailed along. It was truly a magical moment, and one that we will never forget from our boat journey.
