WHERE TO SAIL Our Catamaran Next?? Mother Nature DECIDES FOR US | Harbors Unknown Ep. 68 With all of the essential boat repairs and maintenance completed, we are officially starting our voyage sailing around the world! But Mother Nature has said our first sail will be a relatively short one. A front is making its way across Florida, and the wind is from the Northeast so we’re not able to sail back over to the Bahamas. But we CAN sail down to Key Biscayne. We’re learning one of the most important things in boat life is adapting to different circumstances, and understanding that where you are able to sail, may not necessarily be where you PLANNED to sail. Though, because we played by the rules, we received an amazing reward. Join us and our friends Shawn and Gerri, from @unchartedcourses for an epic day on the water! If you enjoy this video give it a thumbs up, leave us a comment down below and be sure to subscribe to our channel! It really helps us out. A huge thank you to our Patrons, we are so grateful for your support! If you’d like real time updates and additional content consider joining the Harbors Unknown community on Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/harborsunknown If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our Seawind 1600 catamaran, Wanderlust, in September, 2020. We're sailing her to Harbors Unknown, to explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We're sharing our adventures as a sailing couple living on a boat and how it’s possible to live an alternative lifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. We have set off on our voyage sailing around the world, exploring the beautiful waters of South Florida, the Florida Keys, Bahamas, and the US East Coast. How we shower living in our 26ft Airstream Tiny Home in the woods 🌿🚿🌲 We've been living full time in this vintage 1968 Airstream that we restored ourselves for the past 12 months with some unfinished business - we haven't completed our bathroom! So for the past year we've been showering outdoors in the Canadian wilderness (even in the snow during winter!! ❄ At least we have hot water!! We've become pretty accustomed to showering outdoors. Honestly it feels pretty luxurious! But our bathroom is the final project on our tiny home to-do-list and this episode we are finally tackling it!! The plan for this little space is to waterproof the entire bathroom to make a wetbath so that we have the option to shower indoors during some of those cooler days here in Canada! ⛄ And we've decided to do something different from other DIY tiny bathrooms we've seen - were going to build our wetbath entirely with fiberglass! Join us this week as we learn how to work with fiberglass to build a modern, minimal, lightweight & practically functional wet-bath in our 26ft tiny home on wheels! Thank you for watching! -A & J Did you miss last week's tiny home episode? Finishing Touches on our Tiny Tin Home Ep.19 https://youtu.be/49JSVfQWuQY New here? Binge watch our Airstream build from the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxWebYM5fbI&list=PLnZU0VokI3bdkYf_p-4rbnp6cIAafQXAC SUBSCRIBE! ► for a new video every single Wednesday https://www.youtube.com/c/allisonjames If you're into outdoor adventures, tiny homes (on wheels & with sails), off-grid living and DIY projects, then you'll want to click that notification bell so you don't miss an episode! WHO WE ARE We are a couple from opposite sides of the world making life together in a teeny-tiny 160 square feet. Our current tiny home is a vintage Airstream trailer nestled in the woods here in the Canadian Pacific Northwest! We like to call her Streamy, our adventure basecamp! Sounds dreamy right? Well let us tell you that it isn't as easy as it looks & the process of building our dream tiny home on wheels (in just 60 days) was a very difficult endeavor! Watch the FULL build from START to FINISH here: https://youtu.be/VljN0LDsHDA When we're not enduring these self-imposed suffer-fests (i.e. our DIY projects & long grueling hikes up mountainsides) you'll find us out on the ocean, living and sailing around the PNW on our little sailboat. She's a Catalina 30 and we've been enjoying the challenge of restoring her & teaching ourselves how to sail! OUR STORY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt8aijVtK_E I (Allison, the Newfie) met James (the Aussie) while working on a remote island 3 years ago. A decade working in healthcare has helped us both to appreciate the preciousness of this one beautiful life we've been given. Viewing TIME as our most valuable gift, we've been feeling an urgency in our lives to Live All Out! We decided to make some BOLD moves, hit PAUSE on our conventional careers & work full time, turning our DREAMS into reality. This is the beginning of our YouTube journey & over the next few weeks we will be sharing our first steps towards making full-time adventure possible. We'll be posting weekly videos that document our DIY projects, tiny-home living & our land & sea adventures. Thanks for watching! Much love, A & J Connect with us! Episode 013 In this video we spend a few days anchored off Rotoroa Island in the Hauraki Gulf. Rotoroa Island used to be an alcohol rehabilitation center owned and operated by the Salvation Army. Because of this, it still has a few historical buildings remaining including a jailhouse, school house, butchery and a church. However, it is now owned by a private trust who have opened it up to the public and are working hard to restore native forest on Rotoroa Island and provide a habitat to some of our most threatened native bird species. Rotoroa Island has an informative information center explaining its rich social history. We were fortunate enough to see the amazing regeneration of native forest and thriving native bird life whilst learning about Rotoroa's rich social history. Having sailed and visited the island sanctuary a few times now, we have to say that this is a must see on list of places to sail to, anchor in, and visit! What will you see on your visit to Rotoroa Island? We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

A great sail across a wind acceleration zone, followed by some maintenance and an UNEXPECTED squall takes an unoccupied yacht a mile and towards rocks, luckily we saw it go and chased it down and was able to slow its drift enough to save it from certain destruction. Distance: 35 miles Departure: 09.00 Weather: Cloudy, 15 degrees Wind: West 16-24 kts We wake up and, as predicted, this Thursday is a day for making miles and not for sunbathing (unfortunately). But we definitely like sailing, so we set sail and just after the exit (Schleimunde) we unfurl all the sails and make nice speeds with 16 kts of wind. (7 knots on average). After rounding the island of Aerö, the wind picks up, but we then take the downwind course, so we run 8 kts minimum. Aeroskobing looms and we decide to drop anchor again. The rest of the day we lounge on board, eat chicken with asparagus and do some minor maintenance….. #danmark #sailing #anchor

We are attempting to paint our boat DIY style with AWL Grip. I think she turned out pretty nice. What do you think? The Countdown to Splash is on!! After months of "couch sailing" on YouTube we decided it was time to stop dreaming and dream and start living it. Brit has wanted to sail and own boat for many years but it was always something that didn't seem it could possible for us. Until we stumbled across countless and I mean countless YouTube Channels like, La Vagabonde, Beau & Brandy, Sailing Uma, SV Delos, Parlay Revival, Tula's Endless Summer, Odd Life Crafting, Expedition Evans and the list goes on. We can only hope to inspire one person to chase their dreams as they have inspired us to. After what seemed like a long search for a sailboat we learned about hurricane damaged boats for auction down in the Caribbean. We came across a listing for a 43 Beneteau Oceanis that was currently being auctioned. We put in our bid and got out bid a few times before finally winning in the end. We had a short window to get from California to St. Thomas USVI to secure our purchase. Now the fun begins! It is time to refit this hurricane damaged sailboat make her our own. Thanks for watching! Matty, Brit & Wicked :)

Just a short video showing our homemade cowling that allows a window a unit AC to be used on a boat hatch. This is a simple DIY cowling that we made to help keep the boat comfortable during the hot, humid Florida summer while we work on refitting our Westsail 42 sailboat. It's made of 3/4" plywood, foam board, fiberglass cloth, epoxy, and gelcoat. This video is, admittedly, short and basic. We're trying to stretch the available footage we have as to not miss a weekly upload. Next week we're getting back into the refit videos. This episode covers the last two planks being installed. Watch the full recorded livestream of the whiskey plank here: https://youtu.be/AomcpAjIxWA Like the stream? Just $5 a month gets you an invite to our monthly patron-only live streams! It's like being at a little party. https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella People make a big deal out of the whiskey plank for a reason. It's a milestone and a cause for celebration. The boat is not anywhere near completion, but the hull's structure, the thing that makes it a boat, is DONE. After installing the locust sheer strake and the second to last plank, a cedar one just below it, it's time to knock in the shutter plank for the starboard side, which is also that all-important "whiskey plank." Why whiskey? Well, it's just having to do with celebration. Have whatever libation or celebration you want after the last plank on Arabella goes in—it's not about the dram. In boatbuilding, the whiskey plank is about the biggest milestone you can reach before launch, and we plan to launch the boat in 2023. We'll announce the date very soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Saving a life and threatening another - Ep 156 This week you find us anchored off the coast of Rockingham WA. After performing many crimes against the art of hairdressing cutting, we get back to nature on the lovely Penquin Island where we discover a bird fatally caught up in fishing line and lure. Unable to fly or walk we endavoured to release the injured bird. Unfortunately we were unable to release Ivan's friend Darragh from the grip of seasickness which threatened to derail his week of work experience on our boat. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. And tackle a few other projects that have been sitting in the 'unfinished business' pile of our tiny home project for the past few weeks! 👏 Stick around 'til the end so we can take you to our favorite spot on the river and cook a delicious meal over the fire! Did you miss last week's tiny home episode?! Our First Few Days Living in the Woods https://youtu.be/jgoUOVWIIAM New here? #SailingLife #Boatwork #Lagos #BoatSplash #Iridium #PassagePreparation #BowthrusterRepair #SailLife While we wait for the vital bow thruster gear part to arrive we do some yearly maintenance and install the Iridium Satellite communication. When the part finally arrives Sopromar helps us to install it, then it's splash time and we can finally do the final passage preparation incl provisioning, sea securing and pre-cooking but in between all the work we also have time for some socializing visits to some of Lagos best restaurants. But will we be finished in time before Tintomara leaves to go to Porto Santo? We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sailed in the Baltic Sea until we in August started to sail South along the Atlantic coast of Europe in 2020 and 2021.

A few people have messaged us asking 'but why this?'- and to be honest, it's a really good question. With minimal larger boat sailing experience, fresh out of university and with our whole lives ahead- why did we pick a boat over a house? So join us in this vid to hear a bit about why we ditched the traditional route of getting a mortgage and securing a property, and instead, have chosen a life of maintenance, risk, travel and freedom. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ Episode 12 I Chapter 1: Beginning Boat Life [UK] 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 👪 Join the Tribe on our *Patreon* https://www.patreon.com/teulutribe 👕Pick up some *Merch* https://www.teulutribe.com/ 📷 Find us over on *Instagram* https://www.instagram.com/teulutribe/ 💬 Connect with us on *Facebook* https://www.facebook.com/teulutribe/ 🛠️ Teulu’s always trying to break herself, our *Amazon Wishlist* is here https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2045NNIGRTMQT?ref_=wl_share ☕ Treat us to a *Cup of Tea* https://www.buymeacoffee.com/teulutribe 📧 *Business Enquires* teulutribe@gmail.com ☑️ *Subscribe* for a new video every Monday *About Our Boat* - Name pronunciation (Tay-Lee), its Welsh, feel free to call her Too-Loo/Te-a-lu/Teaugukug/Tulu - 1987 Colvic Victor Ketch - 40ft/12m - Two Cabins - Encapsulated Keel and Skeg-Hung Rudder - 13 Tonnes *About Us* We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We went live as we put the last plank on Arabella. This is a big moment of celebration, a milestone for the build as we carry on toward launch in 2023. The whiskey plank is called so because it is the last plank on the boat, completing the hull structure, and so it calls for a a celebration, traditionally. If you want to skip straight to a few minutes before the end of the plank is put into place, go to 1:02:30. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. 🎼 Music/Müzik: Music without copyright - Attribution not required. 👩🏻‍✈️👨🏻‍✈️ Sosyal Medya📱 İnstagram: eleven11sailing Facebook: eleven11sailing Podcast: Eleven11 Sailing / Götür Beni Denizlere https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbGrnMRkzYdgdxLVKroa9vys https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbHftguUvrkFSjNkjFL0hCJl https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbHXtj78EaasYMD6PLReS0Jm https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbEb5TkeyXqg3Cot2v2w7KEB https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbEDV7fLjDGvTcwzgYDyaCmn https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeqD99MDinbFZOjbIvU50GNmUy_tgdL1c #denizdeyaşam #eğlence #eğitim #yelkenli #sailing #tekne #sailinglife #boatshow #sailinglife #yaztatili #göcekkoyları #denizifilmleri #yelkenlifilmleri #yelkenli #deniz #mavi #eleven #elevensailing #tekne #eleven11 #sailingeleven #koy #gocek #göcek #solo #solokaptan #hanseyacht #hansetekne #eleven11sailing #bilgi #amatördenizci #solohayat #tuzluhayat #tuzlusu #kadın #kadınkaptan #denizden #denizci #denizcilik #yelkenvideoları #teknedeyiz #turkuaz #açıkdeniz #kişiselblog #sailing #sailingkanalı #koylar #hanse #hanse455 #hanse460 #hanse458 #hanse510 #boat #yelkendünyası #yatdünyası #yatçılık #adb #adbehliyet #kmt #gezi #seyahat #geziyorum #türkiyekoyları #türkiyem #ülkemingüzellikleri #yelkenli_tekne #tatil #ege #akdeniz #tekgövde #monohull #adyk #amatördenizciyiz #flok #anayelken #fullarma #selftacking #otomatiktramola #tramola #kavança #alestayelken #tekbaşıma #tuzluhayat #deniztutkusu #hobi #yelkenhobisi #deniz #denizci #denizcilik #denizler #denizden #yelken #seyir #mavitur #seyirdefteri #duşmusluğu #duş #mustluk #onarım #bakım #traka #trakakullanımı #maxilmarine #teknetemizliği #temizlik #seyirhazırlığı #direk #teknedireği #mandar

Watch the Whiskey Plank livestream Saturday starting at 2 p.m. ET: https://youtu.be/AomcpAjIxWA Of the final three planks, the sheer strake (plank) goes on first. Made of locust, it can sustain the knocks and bumps of dock approaches or rafting (two boats tying up to one another) and defines the shape of the cedar strakes below it. It would be the first material to hit a piling or dock most of the time, so it needs to be strong. In preparation for the sheer plank installation, we need to remove material from the deckbeams that we left long to save time as we fit them, and meanwhile, Andrew from Restoring Rosalind continued to fight the good fight with his steam generators. The time ticks toward our goal to have the whiskey plank on by tomorrow, Saturday, May 28. We honor Patricia (Pat) Atkin at the end of this episode, an artist and teacher who also carried the legacy of the Atkin Family's collection of boatbuilding plans for many years and, in her generosity of spirit, hosted the hopes and dreams of many builders and owners with her guidance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. This week we share a glimpse of what the first few days living in our new tiny home (in the woods) was like. A different style video than you're use to seeing from us (slow tv). After the sawdust settled and our vacation ended (yes we used our precious vacation to build our tiny home..) we went back to work and life returned to normal.. sort of... Not normal in the sense that living in our tiny home was a bit of a disaster 😅 Two working professionals living together in 160 sq. ft. of primitive construction zone. We were living without electricity, propane or hot water. Getting these simple luxuries back (finally enjoying a hot shower!!!) was a very blissful experience🌿✨ The last thing we wanted to do was pick up a camera. Exhausted and burnt out post tiny home build. We badly needed to rest and slow down. Thank you for being here! Much love A&J New here? Binge watch our Airstream build from the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxWebYM5fbI&list=PLnZU0VokI3bdkYf_p-4rbnp6cIAafQXAC SUBSCRIBE! ► for a new video every single Wednesday https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUsg... If you're into outdoor adventures, tiny homes (on wheels & with sails), off-grid living and DIY projects, then you'll want to click that notification bell & follow along ;) WHO WE ARE We are a couple from opposite sides of the world making life together in a teeny-tiny 160 square feet. Our current tiny home is a vintage Airstream trailer nestled in the woods here in the Canadian Pacific Northwest! We like to call her Streamy, our adventure basecamp! Sounds dreamy right? Well let us tell you that it isn't as easy as it looks & the process of building our dream tiny home on wheels (in just 60 days) was freaking hard!!! When we're not enduring these self-imposed suffer-fests (i.e. our DIY projects & long grueling hikes up mountainsides) you'll find us out on the ocean, living and sailing around the PNW on our little sailboat. Our mast did not go up as planned and was delayed by a week, but since we were in the boatyard anyway, why not start (YET ANOTHER) new project? If you have been watching our channel or are new to it, well, let me tell you that our v-berth wasn't the biggest or cosiest place to sleep. We purchased Ragdoll and knew that eventually, we will have to commit and undergo a complete refit of the v-berth... what better time than now? Our plan is to extend the bed quite far to allow for a decent size mattress to fit in and remove all the unnecessary and mostly unusable wardrobes/cupboards. We will adjust our bunk cabins to create alternative storage and wardrobes instead and have a lovely and big berth to sleep in... with plenty fresh air - something, we're currently missing in our aft cabin. So here comes more boat work and more DIY! AGAIN! Who are we? We are a family of three with three dogs, sailing the coasts of Scotland, exploring one island at a time – for now! There is no set route or plan. We will go where the wind and life take us. We have two golden retrievers and a bernese mountain dog – Hachi, Luna and Meems who sail with us. We sail on a 1995 Gib’Sea 472 who we are in the process of refitting, making our own and preparing for a big adventure. Connect with us! Made significant progress on lots of jobs this week building on the foundations from previous weeks. The Bow Roller is finally permanently fitted!! The Windlass is bolted into place on a new framework. The chain locker (with temporary sides) holds the chain and has a working prototype chute from the windlass. We now have proper marine shore power with Victron Socket, Isolation Transformer and MultiPlus II Two and a half years ago, when we bought Vida, she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel, and paraffin equipment as well as all the plumbing and electrics. We have composting toilets, are installing an electric motor and all electric cooking. We are fitting a huge solar array and probably a wind generator. We have replaced all the windows, removed all the headlining and more. We are replacing all the standing rigging with Dyneema synthetic rigging. This is the biggest sustainability project of our lives as we prepare for a retirement when we want to cruise the world using zero fossil fuels on a very low budget.
