After nearly a year of planning, we’ve arrived at DAY ONE of our barn build: excavation! Seeing the earth being moved — the first real visual progress — is pretty thrilling. Prior to breaking ground, our discussions of the barn’s size and location have been seemingly endless. Once we made our final decisions, we laid out the tapes and measured and remeasured and remeasured… and something wasn’t adding up. Hope you enjoy! A lot of boat work is starting this week! After all... after 2 years sailing the boat needs some maintenance. We took 2 days off to finally explore the Grenada Island and it was really cool. Friends in this episode: Episode of Dylan presenting his boat (on of the best boat tours in our opinion) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXWo7V_SFS8&t=19s Dylan's main channel: @FloatingOrbProductions Where the boat is: Spice Island Marine Services https://spiceislandmarine.com/ We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. We Risk EVERYTHING to put the "Dream Life" to the Test. Is it all just a big Internet Lie? Thanks to BetterHelp for sponsoring this week's episode. Go to https://betterhelp.com/evans for 10% off your first month! Living on a sailboat is HARD but we knew that going in. At least, we thought we knew. Also though, living on a sailboat is AMAZING and we also thought we knew that. We fell in love with the idea of tropical islands, toes in the sand, drink in the hand, dogs frolicking in the palm fronds, and fresh fish on the fire. That's what the internet, youtube, instagram and the likes led us to believe. And so we went for it. We bought a salvaged boat, something we could afford and could grow into so to say. Spent a year fixing and a year outfitting it before really diving into cruising. The boat is set up for off grid living, is more or less self sufficient and capable of crossing oceans. Now, neither of us was naive enough to think it wouldn't be hard, that there wouldn't be bad days, bad weather, mechanical breakdowns, emotional or physical hiccups, but surely it's more good than bad...right? Since we started putting things in motion something like 8 years ago, we didn't actually know if it would be worth it. Does this new dream even actually exist? Is it something that a couple of kids can achieve? And if we "make it" and we get ourselves out there, is it as good as it seems. Let's - find out. Love you all, be safe be good! Sailing Indonesia's secret atoll - a day in the life We love the traditional ways of the South East Asian countries. We have sailed our live aboard catamaran to the Indonesian Archipelago a beautiful ocean paradise where the people have proved to be very friendly. On waking this morning we had a local fisherman touting his wares at the steps of our boat. What could be simpler. Food for us and our kitten Mocha who is trialing a raw food diet after reacting badly to commercial cat food. It has taken us a while to get to know our new kitten who has a feisty streak in her which only makes her more interesting but challenging at times. Everyone bears a little scar from Mocha even our friends get the Mocha treatment when they flew all the way to The Anambas Islands to join us for a holiday. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis
** Hi to any new viewers who've just joined us! In case you're not sure which of the catamarans featured is ours, we have a 2021 Leopard 45 named Sailing Vessel Liger ** 👉 SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION OF THESE TUTORIALS Give Tynan a tip: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB ⛵ Gain access to our member only area: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/join-in Just in time for the Annapolis Boat Show, here's our take on the value of tap testing a yacht to check the integrity of the fiberglass hull and try to find potential issues like voids, de-lamination and dry fiberglass. With her trusty hammer in hand Teesh takes you through what a tap test is, how we do it and why we think it's worth tap testing a new (or new to you) catamaran or yacht during the handover process, whether it's done by you, a qualified marine surveyor or marine company with experience tap testing. We're glad we did it to our Leopard 45 as any issues that were discovered can now be reviewed and fixed as part of the ongoing warranty repairs, bringing our live aboard catamaran closer to the condition it needs to be in to support our dreams of sailing around the world and exploring new places. If you've got any spots of concern on your yacht or are just curious about the condition of the fiberglass, give tap testing a try and let us know how it goes! ______________________________________________ https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/ ☝Check out the website for more info on us, the places we go and products we use 📷 🎶 Music from Artlist ➼ Get yourself 2 months free with a subscription https://artlist.io/Telicia-1577425 After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. #sailing #catamaran #boatlife #TravelVlog #DigitalNomad #LifeStyle #sailboats A quick Google search shows that tap testing can be done as part of a survey on any fiberglass boat, regardless of whether it's a monohull, catamaran or trimaran. Our experiences have largely been centered around Leopard Catamarans so if you've tap tested another one of the major brands such as Bali, Lagoon, Seawind, Fountain Pajot, Balance, Outremer or HH, let us know how it went.
We consider our options for this season and decide to head back to the Pacific and visit New Caledonia and Vanuatu. With just 3 weeks until our planned departure date we complete our annual boat maintenance, provision for 4 months, get our Australian Border Force clearances including a new requirement to export our yacht before heading off. With Tony & Margaret from No Tears joining us for an easy 5 day sail across we arrive at Noumea and celebrate our safe and successful ocean crossing. We’re Chris and Jo and we have been living on our Seawind 1260 since January 2019. In our first year we bring our yacht down the east coast of Australia and sail it out to New Caledonia. After cruising further north up the east coast of Australia in 2020, we decide to circumnavigate Australia during 2021 and 2022. We had previously owned fishing and water skiing boats, but after a couple years crewing in South Australia we decided to jump right in and make a sea change. We are just an ordinary Aussie couple exploring what this great world has to offer and hope that we can inspire others just as we were by watching other YouTube channels to follow our dreams. #seawind1260 #seawindcats #sailing #sailingboat #sailingyacht #yacht #yachting #yachtinglifestyle #cruisinglife
People keep asking why we choose to build out catamaran, so we thought we would give them a better answer! We also start strip planking the starboard hull to get our Solitaire 1520, Performance Cruising Catamaran from Schionning Designs ready for our circumnavigation voyage on our DIY kit sailboat. So, come join Captain Blood, Admiral Marianne, and our XO, Brian, for another video on the building of our boat. Anisia & Tom

It's time to head to Camden, Maine for some dockside boat repairs among the schooners in this very famous and picturesque pocket harbor. The cranse iron, or bowsprit cap, seems to have been a piece that was cast with imperfections. It did serve Victoria for a good long time without issue, and the hardware failure wasn't catastrophic. We don't expect the same thing to happen with other reclaimed pieces of hardware around Arabella. There's a really sweet Akiva check in at the end of the episode, so if you're a big Akiva fan (or if you have concerns about how he's adjusting to boat life) and want to know how he's doing, do stick around until the very end. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! It's an end of a chapter in our lives. This video represents the last minutes of Odd inside the water having us (Roberta and Duca) as her owner. We hauled our sailboat out in Spice Island Marine Services in Grenada in the Caribbean to preparar her for her next owner that was arriving in a few days. Just a quick reminder that our youtube channel is actually a documentary of our lives and where we show all the moments we live and what are our thoughts while we live our lives fullest, living our dream life and documenting everything to share it with others hopping to inspire them to follow their dreams! It's also a documentary of our lives for us... in years from now we can look back and remember all the good (and bad) moments we lived and remember all the moments and friends we met along the way. We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #offgrid #sustainable #TheCruisingKiwis

Hurricane while aboard a sailboat! Yes, Hurricane Lee was downgraded to a tropical storm just before it hit, but everyone here on the water prepares for what could be a longer storm rather than a stronger one. Robin and Steve ended up hiding out in Curtis Cove/Minister's Creek in Pulpit Harbor on North Haven Island in Maine, an extremely protected anchorage during the storm. With northeast winds predicted, and all-around protection, they cooked good food and hunkered down with ease and comfort, then sailed the boat alone for the first time since she was launched. During that sail, they encountered a rig failure which they handled as they came into Rockland Harbor. ***NOW EU VAT PAID*** An exceptional opportunity to purchase this privately owned and never chartered Jeanneau 64. VAIATA’s first owner was an experienced sailor, the specification was full and well-chosen. Her current owner purchased the boat in 2021 and decided to paint the hull and mast as well as make significant additions to her inventory including a diving compressor, bottle rack, a new RIB and outboard as well as new interior upholstery in the saloon. Upon returning from the Caribbean in 2023, a new set of North Sails SRPC sails were delivered and have been hardly used. We believe VAIATA will compare favourably with the remainder of the Jeanneau 64 fleet. The boat has enjoyed pro-active maintenance by both owners and service records are available. Viewings are recommended without hesitation. Merhaba, Saline Adası Carriacou adasının güney doğusunda özel bir ada. Karaya çıkılmasına izin veriliyor. Pırıl pırıl turkuaz renkli su, su altı canl??lığı, küçük koyu ile uygun havalarda keyifle zaman geçirilecek bir yer. Samba teknesi de geldi bizden sonraki gün. Çocuklarla yarım kalan suluboya çalışmalarımızı bir ağacın etrafına çakılmış masanın üzerinde yaptık. Çocukların hayal gücü inanılmaz. Deneyimlerini o an renklerle kağıda dökebiliyorlar. Avare

In this episode we dry Esperance out on a wall at Torpoint Yacht Haven in Plymouth so we can clean the hull, change the anodes, check the rudder, prop and p-bracket and add a new coat of anti-foul ahead of our channel crossing. We hadn't planned on doing this but everything was aligned, weather, tides, location and we found a couple of pairs of hands to help. Kelly took the kids out of the way and Hugh got to work. It took a lot of planning in a short amount of time but we got there. We saved a fortune doing it this way. We know other boat owners would like to do the same but some are nervous about doing it. In this video we talk you through exactly how we did it. Any questions, just send us a message. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have t he guts to cast off. Follow our adventures. Leave us a comment, watch our other videos, join our Facebook page, become part of our journey. https://www.facebook.com/fivegosailing https://www.instagram.com/fivegosailing If you are able and would like to support us we have a 'buy us an ice-cream' page here is the link: https://ko-fi.com/fivegosailing Torpoint Yacht Haven: http://www.torpointyachtharbour.co.uk
Comme un proverbe anglais le dit : "The last coat is never done"... www.vagabond-voyages.net Vous aimez nos vidéos ?

Our last days in the water with this boat (Prickly Bay, Grenada - The Caribbean) Friends in this episode: @TaylorsTravels @kricketscreations @SailLife @Dylanmagaster. @linolino-22 Insta @mrevansd We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. Amanda and Bryan entered a new phase in their life when they downsized from a 3500 sq ft farmhouse to a 1 bedroom apartment. Now they are taking the next leap as they downsize their living space to a liveaboard sailboat while maximizing their life experience. After upgrading lighting and fans, our next step is to prepare for the electronics and new equipment upgrades. This week we are beginning the battery system upgrade to modernize the House Bank with LiFePO4 batteries while keeping the other 3 battery banks as lead. This video is part 1 and delves into Why we chose Lithium and what factors were important to us. As promised here are links to some additional resources mentioned in the video.
