After the interview Anders and I head over to the new Arcona 50, which recently has been appointed European Yacht of the year and it happen be that the boat at the exhibition is equipped with Flexiteek so we wanted to see how it looked and while there we of cause made a short boat tour of the Arcona 50. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

We were fortunate to anchor right in the middle of them when we sailed. In contrast, the hotel in the same location would set you back $1500/night! FROM WIKIPEDIA. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitons_(Saint_Lucia)) Saint Lucia's local brand of beer made by the Windward & Leeward Brewery is named after the Pitons The Pitons are located on the southwestern coast of the island. The Pitons are two mountainous volcanic plugs, volcanic spires, located in Saint Lucia. Petit Piton is 743 m (2,438 ft) high and Gros Piton is 798.25 m (2,618.9 ft) high; they are linked by the Piton Mitan ridge. The Pitons are a World Heritage Site, (7,190 acres) in size, and located near the town of Soufrière. Coral reefs cover almost 60% of the site's marine area. A survey has revealed 168 species of finfish, 60 species of cnidaria, including corals, eight mollusks, 14 sponges, 11 echinoderms, 15 arthropods, and eight annelid worms. The dominant terrestrial vegetation is tropical moist forest grading to subtropical wet forest, with small areas of dry forest and wet elfin woodland on the summits. At least 148 plant species have been recorded on Gros Piton, 97 on Petit Piton, and the intervening ridge, among them eight rare tree species. The Gros Piton is home to some 27 bird species (five of them endemic), three indigenous rodents, one opossum, three bats, eight reptiles, and three amphibians. Gros Piton can be climbed without ropes or mountaineering experience. One can hike to the summit and come back down to sea level within several hours. Local guides are provided by the National Park and are included with your entry fee. They are trained by the government to have basic knowledge of the languages common among tourists and of the medical procedures required in case of common accidents. Petit Piton can be climbed, but is much more difficult. We anchored only one night and did not go ashore, but you can clear in here if you so choose. While high winds and colder temperatures may prevent tasks from being completed on deck, it’s a great time to hunker down below and work on some projects. There’s been a nice dent made in the to-do list. Robin is psyched to find that Starlink has a home. And now that shore power is up and running, Steve gives Robin a tutorial on the process. It turns out that the diesel heater provides plenty of warmth, so Steve decides to repurpose the wood stove space. Luckily, thanks to his past foresight, Steve designed the area for easy disassembly and modification. Good job, past Steve! While working on the cabinetry, he also adds a spice rack so there is plenty of storage for Robin’s beloved salt. Steve and Robin take a trip to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum located in Hyannis to learn about the area’s nautical history. The Executive Director provides a tour, highlighting exhibits that focus on the lighthouses of Cape Cod, female trailblazers of Cape Cod, the Portland Gale, and the Lifesaving Service. The museum is currently working on restoring a surf boat and offers youth programs, including boat-building courses. A different kind of video this time. We are getting Nova Vita ready for the 2024 season and there are always jobs to be done...... This time we thought we would film something different for you...READ ON... Changing the coolant pump on a Volvo Penta MD2030 is a meticulous but manageable task. Here is a brief description of the process. Begin by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safety. Drain the coolant from the system. You can suck out most of the coolant using a vacuum pump. Suck it out of the header tank and from the heat exchanger when the cap is removed. This will leave about 3 litres to drain via the plug. The coolant will 'mostly' go into the space under the engine, the rest will go into the bilges. Next, undo/remove the hoses and belts connected to the pump, taking care to note their positions for reassembly. Unbolt the old pump, being mindful of the position of any retaining bolts or brackets. Clean the mounting surfaces thoroughly to ensure a proper seal for the new pump. Install the new coolant pump in the reverse order, securing it snugly but not overly tight. Reattach hoses, belts, and any other components removed earlier. Refill the cooling system with fresh coolant, following manufacturer recommendations. Finally, reconnect the battery and carefully inspect for leaks before running the engine to ensure everything is functioning correctly. We are not mechanics but will tackle jobs that we believe to be within our capabilities. *If you are not sure about a job then our advice is to leave it to the professionals.* We found the job to be fairly straightforward but a little awkward at times, the drain plug for the coolant being particularly tricky. The crow's foot spanners and the universal joint made undoing this much easier. Windlass series...This is Part 2 of 3 of the WIndlass removal, repair, and install. In this episode we go through the process of the rebuilding the deck where the old windlass was. This process took several days as we had resin and epoxy that had to dry between layers. We also had to have a machine shop fabricate us a stainless steel plate to mount to the top of the deck. Slowly it is all coming back together but we had no idea how big this project had become. At least our existing deck had no rot or delamination anywhere. We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. In this video, Adam upgrades our lifelines which we think might be as old as Tāiko. We make the decision to remove the very old stainless steel lifelines and exchange them with dyneema which is approved by New Zealand's CAT 1 regulations. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978.
