Sardine Run - de grootste school op Aarde! Elk jaar, aan de oostkust van Zuid-Afrika, is één van de mooiste natuurwonderen te bezichtigen. Tijdens de Sardine Run trekken miljoenen sardienen door de Indische Oceaan van Kaapstad naar het noorden. Aangevallen door haaien, dolfijnen, walvissen en zeevogels vechten ze een baan door de zee. Het is niet te voorspellen wanneer exact de jacht geopend wordt, maar tussen mei en juli zijn ze te bewonderen. De sardienen trekken van het gebied bij de Kaap zo'n vijftienhonderd kilometer naar Durban in het noorden. Niemand weet waarom, maar men denkt dat het bepaald wordt door voedsel of voortplanting. De scholen sardienen worden achtervolgd door bultrugwalvissen (honderden), witte- koper- en zandtijgerhaaien, zeeleeuwen, tuimelaars (schatting: zo'n vijfduizend), pinguins en duizenden zeevogels. Dit is een ervaring om nooit te vergeten!!!

Crossing from the Azores to the Isles of Scilly this August (2012) we encountered three storms. Filming during the storms wasn't practical, the worst of each was at night anyway and it was very scary in the pitch black with 50 knots plus of wind and driving rain. When the wind was at its worst I had to hand steer throughout. This video was taken after one of the storms when the waves subsided enough for the autopilot to cope whilst I filmed.
