Hurricane Patricia blesses us with 30 knots of breeze all the way into Pensacola Bay. Patricia sure packs some punch! This was easily the worst wind we have seen to date on our boat and we learned a good lesson about checking chafe points when you have your sails reefed in heavy winds. Watch as Hurricane Patricia causes our furling line for the Genny to chafe right at the drum leaving us with no way to furl her. All lessons are free here today! 40 knots of wind and 6-7 metre waves play havoc with the fleet in the 2015 Transat Jacques Vabre. Five of the "top contenders' had to retire from the race after either capsizing or experiencing damage in the wild conditions. They were Edmond de Rothschild, Safran, Maitre CoQ, Prince de Bretagne and Team Concise.

Checking out the large pelagic fish east of Flores requires some strong kicking with your dive fins to find the sweet spot in between the currents. It’s almost meditational to hang with the large school of dogtooth tuna, literally eye-to-eye with these most powerful bullet-shaped fish in the ocean, hanging almost motionless and filming them with my little cheap Sony action camera.
