Pour en savoir plus : http://www.antsiva-missions-scientifiques.com/mission-reefcores-ii-geyser-glorieues-2013/ Une nouvelle équipe de scientifiques embarque ce matin à bord d’Antsiva. Stéphan, Gwénael et Sophie sont tous les trois géologues et travaillent pour Ifremer Brest. Lou, fraîche intechmérienne, est venue nous rejoindre et va aussi participer à cette expédition. Le programme de cette nouvelle mission consiste principalement en acquisitions de données sismique du lagon des Glorieuses et du banc du Geyser. Des prises de sédiments seront effectuées parallèlement ainsi que des prélèvements de coraux fossiles. A midi, tout est prêt et nous pouvons appareiller. Nous levons l’ancre en direction de Mayotte où nous devons d’abord récupérer Pascal, le 4ème géologue qui nous attend avec le matériel Une mission n’est jamais simple à monter. Celle ci n’a pas échappé à la règle et Stéphan, en tant que chef de mission a du faire preuve de patience, d’ingéniosité et de beaucoup de ténacité pour finaliser celle ci. Un des problèmes était celui de l’acheminement du matériel. Les Taaf n’étaient pas en mesure de certifier le transport par avion jusqu’à Glorieuses et transiter par Madagascar comportait trop de risques. La solution de dernière minute fut donc d’envoyer les caisses par fret aérien sur Mayotte avec un des membres de l’équipe. Nous voilà partis pour 36 heures de mer. C’est une grande première pour Sophie qui n’a jamais navigué ! La traversée commence au moteur et en douceur sur une mer calme, puis le vent se lève et nous pouvons naviguer à la voile pendant toute la nuit.

A quelques joursdu grand départ, et après des derniers moments en famille, le duo Edmond de Rothschild est de retour au Havre ce mercredi ; prêt à s'élancer sur l'Atlantique et impatient d'aller se mesurer aux dix-neuf autres prétendants de la classe Imoca. Il y a deux ans, Sébastien Josse et Charles Caudrelier étaient déjà présents dans le bassin Paul Vatine. Ils comptaient parmi les équipages qui avaient initié le retour des grands multicoques sur cette épreuve majeure du double, la plus longue transat du genre avec ses 5 400 milles à parcourir. Leur association avait fait des étincelles et ils avaient franchi la ligne d'arrivée en vainqueurs en 11 jours 5 heures 3 minutes et 54 secondes, établissant ainsi le temps de référence de l'épreuve sur ce nouveau tracé. Cette année, ils n'ont pas réfléchi longtemps avant de repartir ensemble. Mais cette fois, ce sera en monocoque, à bord du Mono60 Edmond de Rothschild, à la conquête d'un doublé inédit ! The Rolex Middle Sea Race takes place in the heart of the Mediterranean and covers one of the most scenic courses in the world. After leaving Valletta Grand Harbour in Malta, the 111 yachts taking part in the 2015 edition sailed through the Strait of Messina, around the active volcano of Stromboli, and Sicily. They then headed through the Aeolian Islands and on to the Egadi Islands, Pantelleria and Lampedusa before returning to Malta for a dramatic finish to complete the 22-nation fleet’s 608-nautical-mile adventure. The Rolex Middle Sea Race is organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club and has been sponsored by Rolex since 2002.

Sailing my trailer sailer Halcyon from Melbourne to Werribee River. Winds from 5 to 15 knots on the first day and 10 to 35 knots on the return trip. Great spot with exploring up the river in the dinghy with many water birds and interesting scenery. Saw plenty of bream in the water but didn't have my fishing rod!

All the weather forecasts told us that the weather was going to turn so we wanted to get back to Burnham asap, as that was the closest port to home north of the Thames. And with that in mind we headed back over to Bradwell as that was the easiest place from which to leave. And this is the film of that sail... which turned out to be a very pleasant day on the water.

A demonstration of the exceptional manoeuvrability of waterjet-driven yachts. An RNLI Shannon Class Lifeboat fitted with Hamilton HJ364 Waterjets combined with the power of 2 Scania Di13 12.7 litre engines with over 650 horsepower. This demonstration shows the slow speed agility as well as the controlled turn of pace given by the waterjet propulsion system. This Shannon Class lifeboat was built at Berthon in Lymington and goes on station at Montrose.
