Il Marina di Rimini è stato annoverato dagli esperti di settore uno dei porti turistici più belli e all’avanguardia di tutto il mediterraneo. Con i suoi 622 posti e uno specchio d’acqua che supera i 100.000 metri quadrati, è il nuovo gioiello dell’Adriatico, frequentato dagli amanti della vela e del diportismo. Si accede attraverso il vecchio porto canale che permette alle imbarcazioni di entrare in qualsiasi condizione del mare. Il fondale è di 4 metri sul medio mare e la marea ha un’escursione media di circa 63 cm, adatto quindi anche alle barche di grandi dimensioni. Funzionante anche una vasta area di rimessaggio e carroponte da 100 tonnellate per l’alaggio e il varo delle imbarcazioni e per la riparazione degli scafi, delle vele e degli equipaggiamenti di bordo Il bacino della Marina è dotato di un sistema di riciclo forzato delle acque realizzato da Whallinford, società inglese leader mondiale nella depurazione delle acque. Una potente pompa preleva dal mare una grande quantità di acqua che viene lasciata decantare in un enorme serbatoio all’ingresso della Marina. L’acqua viene quindi canalizzata in grosse condotte che la circondano, posizionate sul fondale. Tre potenti pompe convogliano nel bacino 1.200 litri di acqua al minuto. Questo sistema è in grado di assicurare il ricambio dell’acqua in sole 72 ore.

Esercitazione in caso di attacco pirata alla portacontainer. L'equipaggio (34 persone, me compresa) devono rifugiarsi nella panic room nel minor tempo possibile. La "citadel" come si chiama sulla Medea e' un ampio locale segreto nel cuore della nave che si raggiunge dopo un percorso abbastanza intricato. In pratica, se la nave viene attaccata e dirottata dai pirati, ci si puo' rifugiare qui e lanciare l'allarme in attesa dei soccorsi. La portacontainer era diretta in Cina. Ha fatto scalo a Malta, Beirut e dopo il canale di Suez a Gedda (Arabia Saudita). I decide to haul the boat in Pompano Beach for a few months until the baby is born and I can return and do a proper clean out and temporary refit to get it to Jacksonville.
