Just another trip up north where we tear it up, blow stuff up, and introduce you to a neighbor of our property. Soooo, I had Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone cut into the video but apparently, it's banned in the USA. Are they still making money on this song? Better that they just monetize it for Youtube... Episode 18 we say see ya latter to Tahiti and we sail over to the Island of Moorea where we catch up with Elayna and Riley on their yacht La Vagabonde for a brief hello before we sail to the beautiful Bora Bora.
Ep. 19. We take you on a tour inside the lagoon here at Bora Bora, first stop is Vaitape for some pizza and beer, next stop is Bloody Mary’s a bar restaurant that is famous around the world. The next stop is also a very famous icon within the yachting community, the Bora Bora Yacht Club. We love Bora Bora on Annecam.
Ep. 20 for us on Annecam. Join us for the passage from Bora Bora to Rarotonga. We arrived just in time to witness the street parade and fastival for their constitution day in the Cook Islands.
Ep. 21. This was a tough passage as the trade winds dropped out and a cold front moved over us b ut we made it to Niue without any issues. Niue is a beautiful clean Island with very friendly locals who always help. You will see a pod of Humpback Whales swim within a few feet of Annecam, the dinghy lift crane at the dock and a bit of a look at this nice quiet town.

This could be our last sail together for a long time, so we needed to make it count... Just as we left Langkawi Liz had a call from her brother to say their mum, who was diagnosed with Parkinsons ten years ago, wasn’t doing very well. So Liz helped Jamie take SY Esper a couple of hundred miles north to Ao Chalong before jumping on a plane back to the UK. ****************************** Connect with us: Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/followtheboat Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/followtheboat Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/followtheboat Twitter: https://twitter.com/followtheboat Website: http://www.followtheboat.com Subscribe to our sailing channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/spannerheadz?sub_confirmation=1 Be the first to know: http://eepurl.com/B9Ykn ****************************** After the stormy passage (see episode #30) we left the beautiful beaches and sublime sunsets of Ko Lanta and made our way towards Phi Phi Li. Busy at the quietest times of the year, the island where Leonardo DiCaprio filmed "The Beach", is now one of the biggest tourist attractions in the bay. We rested for a while until it was late afternoon and the long-tails started heading for home, then we slipped the mooring and headed to Maya Bay where we hoped we would find a spot for the night inside the protection of the anchorage. By early evening, with only two other boats in the now peaceful anchorage, we watched the sun turn the rocks from grey to orange until only the stars lit the sky. Maya bay is small, only around 0.2 of a nautical mile wide and half a nautical mile long. There are actually three beaches in the lagoon where the film was set. Leonardo's beach in the south is obviously number one. On the east side is beach number two, and tucked up under the northern cliffs, right next to SY Esper, was beach number three. Like the islands of Phang Nga bay Phi Phi Li's limestone rock has been beaten by the rain and sea over millennia, resulting in stunning overhangs, caves and caverns. There is a coral bank in the middle of the bay where anchoring is forbidden and all yachts must use laid moorings only. With hundreds of visitors a day, the delicate ecology is struggling to survive, but the bay is home to lots of fish which make a beeline for any new yachts arriving. We were surrounded by troops of sergeant major fish (a species of damselfish) every time we swam near the boat. d After a 6.00am start, we had investigate the whole bay, swam with hundreds of fish and experienced some of the clearest water we had seen for some time. By 9.00am the tourist boats were flooding in, so it was time to go. We made our way to Ao Chalong on Phuket. The sail across took just under six hours, we had good wind and the weather was kind. By the way, did you know that the collective noun for a flock of terns is 'cotillion'? Neither did we till Liz read it on a birding website. Whatever you want to call it, a whole load of terns attacking a bait ball wasn't enough to stir Millie from her comfortable spot on the furling lines. Before Liz caught her flight, we had just enough time to go dinghy shopping. We had picked up a Tohatsu outboard motor from Langkawi, with the idea that a larger engine would help get us out of trouble should SY Esper need a tow or a nudge in the future. Our Portabote had served us well, but now we needed a dinghy that would accommodate the new outboard. Cholamark on Phuket is the go to destination for dinghies. They make their own, but are also agents for Highfield... ****************************** All music in this episode is licensed under Creative Commons: 00:06 "Suddenly" (Followtheboat's theme) by Otis McDonald (https://soundcloud.com/otismacmusic) 00:36 “Waltz of the Flowers” Tchaikovsky YouTube library 07:38 “I Miss U” by Aussens@iter (c) copyright 2016 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/tobias_weber/54155 Ft: Snowflake 10:54 “Viosin” by WowaMusic (http://www.wowa.me/) 12:58 “Isolated” by Kevin Macleod (http://incompetech.com/) 17:14 “Undiscovered tribes” by Tatono (https://soundcloud.com/tatono) 20:12 “Sleepy Jake” by Silent Partner YouTube library 25:39 “Landra’s dream” by Audionautix (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://audionautix.com/)

The fleet of 49 maxis finally hit the water in north-westerly winds of 17-18 knots and a short and sharp seaway. The Super and Mini maxis headed out for a coastal race and the TP72’s & Wally fleet competed in two windward/leeward races. The choppy seas made for exciting footage and images.

Annecam in Tahiti is episode 12. We walked our legs off in an unsuccessful attempt to purchase cooking gas for Annecam, our gas was getting low and we had to find some soon before we have to eat cold raw food. We ride on the busses and Macenna (Annecam spelt backwards).
Gas for Annecam, episode 13. We finally manage to purchase lpgas for cooking on Annecam, we were very happy cruisers.
Watching the world go by sitting Annecam is episode 14. You will see the same beautiful views that we have to put up with almost every day as we sail across the Pacific Ocean but someone had got to do it, so it may as well be us.
The crew off Annecam go shopping is episode 15. We do most of our shopping in the Carrefore Super Mall just a short walk from the Marina Taina. There are several locations where one can purchase lunch while there.
Episode 16. We give you a quick look inside the indoor market in Pape'ete, an important package has just arrived from Australia so we celebrate with pizza and beer, we then go for a stroll past some of the black pearl shops here in Tahiti.
Provisioning Annecam episode 17. We almost fill two shopping trollies with provisioms, filling our dinghy to the gunnels and you will see how we try to keep the insects off Annecam.
From a Tropical storm to the North Seas, we have used, and tested our two Fortress Anchors in a number of situations. The Fortress Anchor can be disassembled and makes a great backup anchor. We tested it in Holand's Waddenzee where it was so deeply buried we couldn't find it by digging! We also tested two Fortress anchors in a tropical storm, and again could barely get them up afterwards! We finally get to take a look at the underside of Maiweh, and work on the hull, valve, and rudder. The squeeze is on for time and money, so the project lasts only about a week. After that, we're on to Vancouver and where Robi acquires a US visa before crossing over to the States. (Usually French/European citizens can enter with only applying online for an ESTA, but when travelling by yacht, they need to get a Business and Tourist class visa). The check-in to the US is smooth and seamless, but the passage from Port Angeles to Neah Bay, not so much...
