Barefoot Hiker recaps and recounts the ordeals and beauty of a few New England states. The 18ft Skiffs were back on Sydney Harbour today when the Australian 18 Footers League conducted Race 1 of the 7-race Spring Championship to open the 2017-2018 Season. Conditions were steady from the North East for the 14-boat fleet and the race provided a drama-free dayu for many of the new teams.

#2 Et oui ! Cette forte saison des ouragans fait qu'il est désormais presque impossible d'assurer un bateau pour le sud. Nous restons tout de même positifs et espérons qu'une fois les ouragans passés, les assurances ouvrirons leurs portes à nouveau. Il reste que le temps est bon pour une fin de mois de septembre. Nous avons monté la rivière Richelieu avec de la belle compagnie et avons traversé les écluses de Chambly. It was another great week on Maldives Blue Force One with so many photographers on board. Meeting Turtles, lots of sharks and stunning reefs. Our last dive was outstanding, with dozens of Mantas circling round us.

On our way to the Bahamas we were able to stop in Utah to visit family! After all our BAD LUCK trying to leave Oregon, it felt good to have a little bit of a rest, before continuing on. While in Nevada the dipstick tube on the truck broke making it impossible to check the transmission fluid! We found a local shop to replace it and also flush the transmission while they were at it. We also requested that they adjust the steering because the steering has been very sloppy, making it difficult to drive in traffic while towing the boat. We got the truck back only to find that the transmission LEAKED leaving a HUGE mess in the driveway! They also did NOT fix the steering AT ALL, but still charged us for the work! We were not happy and took the truck back to the shop to get fixed AGAIN! (the steering never did get fixed) We were afraid of getting snowed in while we were in Utah, but we also wanted to have time to spend with family before leaving for the East Coast. Update: Laurie was ejected from the boat in late April 2019 after almost 3 glorious years of exploring and discovery. She is now back in BC with family and friends.

This is the start of our adventure as we plan to sail around the world. We are a British couple that decided to quit our everyday lives and live on a yacht. We had an amazing life in Dubai and decided to make a huge leap of faith and swap our luxury 5* lives for a life at sea. Of course I had some stipulations before I would say yes to this adventure including a washing machine and plenty of space for my shoes! In our first episode we travel to France to see our new catamaran in the factory and are blown away by how amazing she is!
