Bem vindos a bordo !! Last year we thought we knew, but 12 months later when Francois Gabart smashed the previous record, the sailing world drew breath. Was this the ultimate limit to the ultimate challenge? To find out, we looked at the history of round the world record breaking and talked exclusively to Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man to sail solo, non-stop, around the world about how times have tumbled and what lies ahead. In addition, we go to Nassau in the Bahamas to witness an extraordinary victory as the world’s best compete in a champion of champions showdown. We also re-visit the grueling Volvo Ocean Race as the fleet careers though the Southern Ocean before parking up in the Pacific. Plus, we take a look at the controversy in the Rolex Sydney Hobart race.

The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. During a course late in 2017 we asked Sailing Virgins students Alex, JT and Sarah a few questions about their course. Sarah loved The Yacht Week and wanted to learn more about the technical aspects of sailing. JT researched plenty of schools online and every road led him to Sailing Virgins. Alex learned about Sailing Virgins from his skipper at The Yacht Week and decided to do his advanced course with Sailing Virgins. With 100% five-star reviews, Sailing Virgins enjoys the highest rating amongst all sailing schools in the Caribbean, according to TripAdvisor, Google and Facebook. If you're in your 20s or 30s and want to level up your sailing while having a full-on adventure, check out our courses at https://sailingvirgins.com/courses/
It is not easy telling the same story over again with the same footage, but I felt this story also needs to be a part of the season 1 and the boat shopping process, as it is actually a huge part of just that. So for all of you who have seen the longer version already, you may want to skip this video and check back next week again for more. If you have seen this video only, then you may want to get the full story. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/yZNuaftbGG0 This is the story of a boat purchase that went wrong. I signed contract on this catamaran as the boat had the perfect layout for us and I liked it a lot. However, when we detected moist and mold we were told by the broker Klaus Tietze at cat-sale.de that this could be fixed - so I agreed to go along with the purchase… Then later on I was told by email that most the issues were taken care of and that it was possible for me to move aboard. I packed up the car again and went to Germany the fourth time around, only to find the boat as a complete mess… Please comment and let me know your thoughts on these boats. Make sure you give the video a thumbs up if you like it and subscribe if you haven't already. Next week we finally buy a boat, so stay tuned for more! What a relief!! The good news today is that after so long working on the roof, we finally have a painted and rust free roof. This is the 13th episode towards our goal of building, by ourselves, a Tiny Shipping Container House and producing a Youtube Series about it called Living Tiny Project. Well we do know black is not the right color to paint a shipping container roof, but we actually have an explanation for choosing this specific kind of paint. If you are curious to understand why, make sure to watch today's episode of our video series. Hopefully by the end of the video you you understand and agree with our decision. If not you are always welcome to help us with new knowledge by writing a comment. If you enjoy our video series remember to subscribe to our channel and to live us a thumbs up as this actually helps a lot. If you do that YouTube will know that people are enjoying our videos so they will suggest it for more new people. Thanks a lot and we wish you guys a great week!! New episode every MONDAY!! Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE and to click on the little bell to get notified when we up load new videos!! www.youtube.com/oddlifecrafting This episode is all about shipping container painting. As in the beginning we didn't know what we where doing, we actually use different kind of paint in different parts of the roof. This been said I think the best is to share with you guys what we learned from it. In our opinion, if we would start all over again and do it “rigth” from scratch, this is how we would do it: 1st - Wash the shipping container with a pressurized hose. 2nd - Grind off the big rust parts. 3rd - Patch the necessary holes. 4th - Clean the surface with a degreasing agent. 5th - Treat any spot that still has any sign of rust with rust converter. 6th - 24 hours later 2 cros-layers of black matte vinyl paint (20 minutes interval). 7th - 20 minutes later 2 layers of liquid asphalt paint (24 hours interval). That’s just our opinion, if you find anything wrong let us know on the comments section below. If you like small living spaces and shipping container architecture this channel is for you. Yachts Born in the U.S.A. -The ones that got away! Researching this video was a real eye opener for me. I knew that there was a rich yacht building history in the United States, but had never really studied the subject. From the spectacular picnic boats built by Hinckley to the wonderful runabouts produced by Chris Craft and sensational hand built vessels that Brooklin Boatyard turn out, the one thing these boats have in common is an exemplary attention to detail. I feel sure that the workers in each of these yards feel very proud to be part of some of the finest products to be built in America. For more information about any of these boats, or if you are considering buying or selling a yacht please contact me at any time at david.seal@northropandjohnson.com
| Season 2 | Episode 18 | Morse Point Anchorage to Forney Cove, Santa Cruz Island of the Channel Islands of California. The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve and meeting up with Meital. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins. I awoke in the very rolly anchorage of Morse Point and waste no time heading out to Forney Cove which is located on the western most point of the island. A glassy motorsail with only a light breeze on my bow finds me cruising into the very projected anchorage of Forney Cove. I went ashore, hiked and explored and returned at sunset to get some amazing drone footage of this incredible anchorage. While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage. I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. This will act as support to the A STERN VIEW podcast as will each new video episode that features the anchorage covered in the podcast episodes. The journal and Podcast can be seen and heard here: http://svtriteia.com If you like the podcast please subscribe to it on iTunes and rate / review it as it helps in the ratings! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/a... I will make the podcasts and blog posts available to my Patron’s before the rest of the public. If you would like to contribute you can do so here https://www.patreon.com/sailorjames Also if you like this video please give it a thumbs up! It helps me get more viewers! Thanks to all of you for watching and being so supportive with your comments and likes! It makes me really happy to know you like the videos and to hear your feedback. Happiest New Year to you all!
