We begin with a very relaxing day in Carolina Beach. Maddie does another painting commission before Herby cooks dinner and the real fun begins! Our neighbors, Blair and Wes take us to the most famous bar in CB called Fat Pelican and we quickly find out why it is so well loved. To start, you get your drink from a giant selection in a walk-in cooler next to the bar. The many rooms are full of the special character that makes this place so unique. We then check out Silver Dollar which hosts karaoke almost every night of the week. Maddie gets her hands on the mic and we have a great time dancing until last call. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Wir haben auf der Messe "boot" in Düsseldorf Jürg von Elite Yachting getroffen, der uns in einem Interview das Reiver rund um Phuket beschrieben hat. Zur Yachtauswahl für Schiffe ab Phuket geht es hier lang: http://www.charterbar-yachting.de/de/yachtcharter/thailand/phuket Der Anstieg von Hotelurlaubern, den Thailand und Malaysia in den vergangenen 10 Jahren zu verzeichnen hatten, fiel in Bezug auf Charterkunden eher moderat aus. Zwar wird dort aktuell sicher mehr gechartert als noch vor 10 Jahren aber wir sprechen hier immer noch von einem ruhigen und eher ein¬samen Revier in dem es selten vorkommt, dass man in einer Bucht noch andere Charteryachten vorfindet. Die Vorzüge Asiens liegen für Segler auf der Hand: unberührte Natur, freundliche Menschen, kulinarische Highlights und günstige Preise. Hinzu kommen die traumhaften Strände, eine atem¬beraubende Unterwasserwelt mit Badewannentemperaturen und angenehme Winde. Und wer den Tidenhub von maximal drei Metern im Auge behält, wird hier auch segeltechnisch nicht weiter gefordert werden. Das Revier ist genau genommen ein Ganzjahresrevier mit durchschnittlichen Lufttemperaturen von ca. 30°C, wobei sich der europäi¬sche Winter für die Reviere Phuket und Koh Chang anbietet. Aufgrund des zwischen November und Mai vorherrschenden trockenen Nordost Monsuns dominieren an den Westküsten der Halbinseln vor allem sonnigere Wetterverhältnisse. Koh Sa¬mui an der Westküste der Halbinsel bietet dagegen aufgrund des vorherrschenden Südwestmonsuns zwischen Mai und Ok¬tober die richtigen Bedingungen. Während in Phuket und Koh Chang in dieser Zeit unangenehme Böen, feuchte Luft und ver¬mehrte Regenschauer auftreten ist es in Koh Samui vorwiegen¬d trocken und sonnig. Das Revier um Phuket ist wunderschön. Der berühmte, aus dem Film „The Beach“ stammende Strand oder die wie eine Säule steil aus dem Meer emporragenden Felsen, wel¬che einem bekannten James Bond Steifen als Kulisse dienten, sind nur Beispiele für die Schönheit dieses Reviers. Traumhaf¬te Buchten und gute Ankermöglichkeiten reihen sich hier eng aneinander. Während bekannte Inseln wie z.B. Pi Pi Island voll von Menschen, Bars und Geschäften sind, ist man auf anderen Inseln vollkommen allein. Wer sein Schiff in Koh Chang bei unserem Partner übernimmt, wird landschaftlich im Gegensatz zu den steilen Bergen rund um Phuket etwas Anderes vorfinden. Die Inseln rund um Koh Chang bestechen vor allem durch ihre flachen, mit dichten Dschungel überwachsenen Inseln. Das Revier be¬herbergt viele buddhistische Klöster, Tempel, und Flüsse, die zum Teil tief in den Mangrovenwäldern liegen. Die Zeit scheint hier still zu stehen und man findet nur einen Hauch von Infrastruktur vor. Hello friends, this has been our last week of the classic route in the central atolls. We begin our expedition to the Southern Hemisphere. Without a doubt it has been a great finishing touch, both for the great group that has accompanied us and for the good weather and the dives. This week we have been able to make numerous dives in the famous kandus or channels where we have seen large groups of sharks, eagle rays and other pelagic. After our trip to Ari Atoll, we have dived in the legendary thilas that have given this route fame. Huge schools of fishes of various species crown the cleaning stations while the stingrays dance for us. Maldives always reserves surprises for us and in this case he has given us 2 dives the wrecks of Machchafushi and Fesdu that we will take time to forget.
