Episode 11 Ricky & I go for some First Aid training. Ricky buys 7 kg of Squid (which he has to eat all by himself) as i'm not the biggest fan of squid. Ricky shows you guys how to prepare fresh squid. We start cutting up our marine ply wood for our bulk heads in our starboard and port aft cabins, as well as to replace our floors. We also rip out our bath and sink to make way to fit in a shower and smaller sink. Our circular saw died on us so we had to make a trip down to Builders Warehouse for a new one and Ricky decided to get a fresh new hair cut on the way there. My mom also flew in to come say hi and visit us. We went for dinner with her and breakfast the next morning at the hotel she was staying at. It was AMAZING! Off Mexico’s Pacific coast is a tiny volcanic island home to Blue Footed Boobies and Magnificent Frigatebirds. Commonly referred to as Mexico’s Galapagos, Isla Isabel is a sanctuary for birds. We visit during nesting season and find a lot of eggs on the beach and a large variety of lizards there as well. Apres 40 jours de navigation depuis Puerto Montt, Caleta Olla sera notre dernière étape sur les canaux de Patagonie avant d'arriver à Ushuaia (à 35 milles) . Encore un endroit qui nous a impressionné par la majesté du canal Beagle surmontés de ses pics glacés. En 1830, le célèbre capitaine Fitzroy commandant du Beagle fit escale sur l'ile qui se trouve face au mouillage. Il la nomma par dérision l'ile du Diable. En effet un de ses marins chargé de monter la garde pour la nuit afin de se prémunir de vols éventuels opérés par les indiens, fut terrorisé par deux yeux qui le fixait dans le noir. Il tira pensant faire fuir le voleur. Le matin dans la direction du tir on découvrit un pauvre cadavre de hibou.

First National Nelson Regatta Week. Friday 19th - Wednesday, 24th January 2018. The Regatta started in Nelson, where the first races were held. Due to little to no winds, races 2 and 3 were cancelled. On Sunday, 21st of January a coastal race for the cruising boats was held. On Monday, 22nd January the keelers set off across the Tasman Bay for three days of coastal racing - including a night in Torrent bay and Tarakohe. Our Endeavour 32 sailboat gets a new water tank lid to replace the rotten one that was contaminating our drinking water. This project, like all boat projects, took far longer than I thought it would. In the end though, I think the results are worth the extra time that it took to construct the custom lid, and to ensure that it is installed properly. Now, the big boat project on the list is the replacement of our standing rigging. Oooooh boy. However there are many areas of Naval Architecture where the use of a fixed pitch propeller is not suitable or good enough. One good example of this is sailboat propellers.
