How Can We Save the Manatees https://www.savethemanatee.org/how-to-help/ HOW TO GET HELP FOR MANATEES Florida: Call 1-888-404-FWCC (3922). You can also send a text message or email to Tip@MyFWC.com or use VHF Channel 16 on your marine radio. You can also download the free FWC Reporter app on your smartphone or tablet: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/FLFFWCC/bulletins/1db182f Maryland, North Carolina, or any eastern state north of Florida: Click the following link to get information on how to report manatees to your local wildlife officials: http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/pr/health/networks.htm Alabama and Mississippi: Call Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Manatee Sighting Network at 1-866-493-5803. Louisiana: Call the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at 1-800-442-2511. Texas: Call the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network at 1-800-9-MAMMAL (800-962-6625). Please give dispatchers the exact location of the manatee. If the manatee appears injured, please call right away. If injuries are not obvious, but you still suspect the manatee may be injured, try to determine the number of times the manatee surfaces to breathe during a five minute period before calling. Since manatees can stay submerged for up to 15 minutes at a time, frequent surfacing could be indicative of an injury. Please call: If you see a manatee with a pink or red wound or with deep cuts. This means the wound is fresh. If you see a manatee with grayish-white or white wounds, this likely means the wound has healed. But the manatee can still have internal injuries, so continue to observe the animal for any of the other characteristics listed here. If the manatee is tilting to one side, unable to submerge, seems to have trouble breathing, or is acting strangely. If you observe a manatee calf by itself with no adults around for an extended period of time. Manatee calves may remain dependent on their mothers for up to two years. If the mother dies before the calf is weaned, there is a strong likelihood the calf will not survive alone. If you see anyone harassing a manatee. If you see boaters speeding in a protected area. If you see a manatee who has become entangled in monofilament line, crabtrap lines, or other debris. Do not attempt to remove debris by yourself. Debris may be embedded underneath the skin and only a trained veterinarian can adequately assess and repair the damage. If you see a dead manatee. By doing a necropsy, scientists can sometimes determine the cause of death and better understand the dangers to manatees. If you see a manatee tagged with a radio or satellite transmitter. Sightings of tagged manatees help provide researchers with information that can be used to protect manatees and their habitat. However, do not attempt to remove the transmitter. It is designed to come off if it becomes entangled, so the animal won’t be trapped.

Another epic day out at the Forbidden Island of Ni'ihau with Bubbles Below Scuba Charters. Rare to get out in the winter months, and there were so many whales! Sandbar sharks, Manta Rays, Hawaiian Monk Seals, and super rare fish like the endemic Hawaiian Morwong and Spotted Knifejaws!
RTE, Realtime Embedded, hosted a seminar and webinar in Stockholm, March 7, 2018, with Ekkono's Chief Data Scientist (CDS), Rikard König, as keynote speaker.
Two months to departure! In this episode, I tell about how we went from being full-time employees to quitting our jobs, buying a sailboat and leaving Stockholm, Sweden, to go sail the world. Ryan and I met on Tinder in March 2015, and hit it off immediately. Unfortunately, 3 months later, Ryan sustained a really bad shoulder dislocation subsequent to a goose attack. While staying at home, Ryan killed his time on Bored Panda, and read the story of how a couple our age quit their jobs, bought a boat, and went on to sail the world for 5 years (the couple in question is no other than Matt & Jessica sailing). At that time, we were getting really tired of our uninspiring office jobs, and started to ask us what life would be like if we really did what we loved. We took a 2 weeks sailing course in Gibraltar in January 2016. We bought our boat, a Beneteau Oceanis 40 from 2007 with a two cabins layout in March 2016. The learning curve got way steeper than we anticipated, and after one season sailing in Stockholm's archipelago, we didn't know how we felt about sailing. Our second season was way better, and we decided that we were ready to start our voyage! We are leaving Stockholm, Sweden in 2 months, and will take the Kiel channel, cross the North Sea to the UK, then go to my hometown in Brittany, cross Biscay to Coruna, and once in Gibraltar, we will make a decision where we go next! Brady from SV Delos gets in contact with us and sends us on a mission. Detectives Yosh & Bon, Super Slooths https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, Marley and Bonita go for a little excerise and run into a pack of dogs who want to tear the bark off them. With the braveness of Bonita, they both escape but not worse for wear. We high tale it out of the city on a mission. Brady from the well known vessel SV Delos, wrote to us asking if we could translate some lyrics in a song for him. With Detective's Yosh and Bonita on the case, we steadily track down the location of the language. We deal with some unexpected weather in an anchorage that is not the best suited for what is coming. Leaving the following day, we head out a nice day sail and of course have engine issues at sea. Thats why we carry spare parts people! Enjoy! Patrons Only! After few days in Beautiful Bequia, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) moves on to Mustique, an idyllic gateway owned by Mustique Company. The island is composed of seven valleys, each with a white sand beach and wooded hills where exquisite private residences are hidden from public eyes. With a harbour front focal point, Lovell Village is a small gathering of houses where few locals live, together with Vincentians employed by Mustique Company to run and maintain the private properties and the 2 hotels on the island, Cotton House and Firefly. We had a great time exploring the island by bicycle, snorkeling and interacting with both the locals and the posh guests. St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Dicey spinnaker flying in a coastal race from Charleston!! In this week's episode of sailboat living with SailAway...We're back!!! After a several week video hiatus due to some minor life details in preparation for sailing the bahamas - like selling our house, taking some separate travel time, and prepping to sail south to Florida (we'll cover all that in a few episodes), we bring you Part One of the Alice Cup Race from Charleston, SC out into the Atlantic Ocean, and down the coast to Bohicket Marina, SC, an all-day race followed by a second race back to Chucktown the following day. This is one of two such races run yearly as part of the Charleston Ocean Racing Association's Ocean series and always our favorite. Racing as a sailing family with a baby and a dog has *possibly* taken the edge off of our competitive nature, but it hasn't killed our desire to get out there and mix it up. :-) We even decide to race in the spinnaker class even though very short-handed...and using a spinnaker sock...which led to some pretty interesting sail changes. But with great wind, rolling seas, and a beautiful sailboat girl at the helm, there wasn't much to complain about. Definitely a good part of sailboat living! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT! Have you ever heard of SPLORE? We hadn't until last week when we met a cool guy named Will who came by to borrow a tool. He told us SPLORE was the most radically awesome festival New Zealand had to offer. AND it was family friendly! Incredible. We haven't been to any others in NZ to compare, but SPLORE was epic. Awesome! Amazing! We had a blast. If you're in New Zealand in February next year we highly recommend checking it out. (This episode was in no way sponsored by SPLORE. We just really loved our experience at the festival) Family Circus is a family of four sailing around the world on their boat, "Family Circus". We make movies about our life on board and share our experience of what it's like starting a youtube channel while sailing around the world. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On this trip we decided to buy "Family Circus", planned to sail her to New Zealand and started an adventure that changed our lives. SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe-5... This small inflatable sailboat is easily assembled in 20 minutes without any tools. Easy to handle, its sailing qualities will give you a thrilling experience. Very responsive, stable, and comfortable in light winds, the Tiwal 3 is dynamic in more challenging conditions. Whether you’re sailing solo or double-handed, it is perfect for your adventures at sea or on a lake! Boat of the Year Award | Best Innovation | by Sailing World U.S.A. "The thing was a blast. I couldn't believe how well it sailed. You could have some serious fun with this, especially in big breeze." -------------------------- ** The Tiwal story ** * The Birth of Tiwal * As a girl, the first time our founder Marion Excoffon was told, “No!” by her father when she asked to use the family boat, her life as an inventor began. It was then she started dreaming of building her own craft, an ambitious feat that would come true years later. On the road to creating an innovative high-speed vessel for everyone from kids and first timers to expert sailors who want to test limits, there were a number of prototypes, failures, challenges and headaches. But, if there’s one thing Marion’s known for, it’s her sailor’s grit! * Combining Fun & Technology * The award winning Tiwal concept is easy assembly and storage - maximum fun and performance for watersports and activities. A Tiwal isn’t your average dinghy! Our design is the result of tons of coordination, talent, and technological savvy. * A Growing Global Community * For our community of Tiwal skippers (more than 2,500 worldwide!) all this innovative design means their focus is fixed on the pleasures of watersports and having tons of fun on a responsive sailing craft. With excellent upwind and downwind abilities combined with high-speeds, Tiwals are a part of both fun and professional performance. The Tiwal 3 received the Boat of the Year (Best innovation) Award 2014 from Sailing World in the USA and the Red Dot Award, with recognitions, accolades, and smiling faces continuing to join together on the waves worldwide.
