Motoring a sailboat down the Mississippi River — a bit paradoxical, isn’t it? Back when buying a sailboat was still a distant dream, we can most definitely assert that motoring down a bunch of rivers was not on the to do list. But, sometimes you find yourself in strange situations. And it’s been one helluva journey! This episode spans the 218 miles of Mississppi River which makes up part of the inland waterway connecting Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico. We were apprehensive of the Mighty Miss. How would our boat handle in the swift 4-5 knot current? What would navigating around all the commercial traffic be like? Would there be safe places to anchor? Oddly enough, the Mississippi turned out to be one of our favorite parts of this journey. Fall was in full swing and the trees were a kaleidoscope of colors. Passing barges became more interesting and less nerve-wracking. A fog bank kept us on our toes. We found a couple of lovely anchorages, and watched one ahh-mazing sunset. petting the piggies in the bahamas 45 Beau and Brandy Sailing We sail out at dusk to our new anchorage where the Abaco swimming pigs live. No Name Cay is the island and there aren't just pigs there, they've got chickens too! We have a lot of fun feeding and petting them, but don't get too comfortable. They'll bite you if you're not careful, just ask Beau. Beau and Dan go hunting for a new bow roller. They get lucky and find one in almost new condition off an abandoned sports fishing boat tucked in the mangroves at Green Turtle Cay. It looks like someone less determined than Beau tried to remove it but let one bolt prevent that from happening. Luckly Beau had just the tool to get it free in a jiffy. Then we sailed around the Whale (Whale Cay) to the anchorage just south of Treasure Cay in order to hide from a strong system that was about to roll through. It was forecast to guest 40 kts but it only got to about 35. Our 55 lbs mantus keep us in place with no worries. Fy jädrar vad roligt det var! Vi var alltså 30 deltagare plus crew som bodde på fyra segelbåtar och seglade mellan olika öar i en vecka. Na reforma foi feito um trabalho minucioso na laminaçao da quilha e leme e proteção geral no casco. Foram 2 demãos de Epa, 3 de Vinil Bronze e 5 de tinta venenosa. Foi retirado tidas as faixas e nomes do costado para receber a nova roupagem. 1 mês de trabalho.
