We arrived in Espalmador, a popular anchorage in Formentera early May. We were surprised to not find the mooring buoys that are supposed to be used by sailors to protect the Posidonia, and had a few head scratching moments before deciding to drop our anchor in the sand. We get invited over for lunch on our friends’ catamaran, a Fountaine Pajot Saba 50, for another gourmet lunch prepared by chef Patrice, before heading to the beach for some exploration of Espalmador. The next day, we get inspected by the Posidonia ranger patrol who come to check our anchor. Cuando el esfuerzo se hace importante está el riesgo de hacerse daño. Con Ewincher, tu cuerpo está perfectamente posicionado: puedes girar cargas importantes sin forzar. Continuando nesta epopéia de reforços nas caixas de travessas, experimentando vários tipos de bucha, os trabalhos deram certo finalmente. A bucha de metal recoberta de tecido de fibra de vidro deu certo para o casco de Boreste (BE, direito), portanto não precisei refazer. O casco de Bombordo (BB, esquerdo), utilizei buchas de poliacetal, foi muito mais fácil e limpo o trabalho, deu tudo certo. Agora o próximo passo será reforçar o buraco da travessa.

This extended our tour of San Diego Bay, from Shelter Island and La Playa anchorage at the north, to the southern most harbor of Chula Vista.

I make an additional two port calls in the Hebrides before sailing across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland. I end the episode with a ten hour passage to Viking territory: the Isle of Man. Along the way, I manage not only to run aground in Rathlin Marina, but also to visit one of the best marinas I have ever been to: Carrickfergus near Belfast.

I have received numerous requests from aspiring solo sailors to show how I hoist sails single-handed. Here is my demo of how I do this from the cockpit. There are many variations on a theme on how to do this. I make no claim that this is the best way. It works for me.

Season 4 | Episode 71 | An Empty Isthmus Cove and Hiking Goat Whiskers Trail. On this episode we awake to a New Year! 2019! After riding out the blow that came in the middle of the night we made our way ashore in the lingering winds and walked over to Isthmus Cove. It was quite a sight to see Isthmus Cove all but completely empty. The only boats that were allowed to stay were the Lifeguard Boat and two shore boats. They even towed the dingy dock well far out and tired it off to moorings. My friend Noah told me this seemingly excessive precaution was a direct result of a storm that hit the island on December 31st, 2014, exactly 5 years from when this video was filmed. During that 2014 storm boats were blown ashore on the rocks and two people were killed, one of which was a harbor master. Since then when a gale is forecasted to hit the islands the Lee harbors are cleared out as a safety measure for sailors and Harbor Masters a like. We made our way up the hill and ran into two of our friends from Instagram, Adam and Kat. We had been in touch with them and said hi was we motored past their Cape Dory on our way in the day before and had planned on meeting up at some point. It was nice to bump into them on the trail and we all hiked the rest of the day together. Making our way up Goat Whiskers Trail we eventually found ourselves on a brilliant vista point giving us an amazing view of the island and of the isthmus. before heading back down and back to the boat for a very long nap. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted.
