Sailing to Puerto Rico In this episode we sail out of Dominican Republic and head straight to Puerto Rico. in the process we sadly lose our dinghy motor overboard. Most of the time we have sargassum all over the place, making fishing difficult. But we try to fish as much as possible. We don’t catch much fish but when we do, we catch wahoo. A documentary about an abandoned German town in Namibia. After diamonds were discovered in German South West Africa in 1908, the diamond rush began. Just in 50 years the town was built, flourished and died. Soak up the atmosphere of Kolmanskop and think about the people who used to live and work here. Try to imagine what it must have been like when children ran and played in this monster sandpit, when women in long dresses enjoyed a show in the theatre or local workers dreamt of keeping just one or two diamonds for themselves, when people laughed and cried and made a life here. In the film: It’s the first day of winter in Namibia, June 1. The temperature is about 10 degrees. We are leaving the boat in Luderitz Bay in a heavy fog. Ghost town in fog, what could be more spectacular. After few hours the fog cleared and we enjoyed exploring Kolmanskuppe. Sand is everywhere, silting through windows and doors. The Mother Nature took back everything what was hers. Voici le septième volet d'une modeste présentation de nos 50 jours consécutifs passés à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain en 2019. Nous répétons le même scénario depuis plusieurs années, mais nous n'avions jamais pris le temps de documenter et surtout, de présenter notre expérience. Nous naviguons à 4 (2 adultes, 2 enfants en bas âge) sur un Hunter 30 Cherubini 1980 que nous avons remis à notre goût ces dernières années. Nous tenons habituellement de 8 à 9 jours avec notre réservoir d'eau et le réservoir d'eaux noires. Cette année, nous avons hissé les voiles chaque jour pour lesquels nous avons navigué. Nous avons parcouru une distance totale de 610 miles nautiques sur le fond et consommé 32 litres de diesel en 7 semaines. la plus grande distance parcourue sur le fond fut de 35,2 miles nautiques en près de 7 hrs 30. Il n'y a eu qu'une seule journée entière de pluie... notre vitesse de croisière se situe aux alentours de 5 noeuds. Nous espérons inspirer ceux qui doutent du plaisir que l'on peut avoir à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain avec une jeune famille et partager quelques'uns de nos mouillages et des quelques moments de bonheurs passés sur l'eau. A Tribute to Snorkeling in the Caribbean! This video is dedicated to Mie’s mom. We took her snorkeling for the first time in her life when she visited us Spring 2019 in the Caribbean. But she couldn’t really adjust to the snorkel and mask, so she didn’t see much of the beauty of what is in the ocean and with this video we would like to show her that. Sadly coral reefs are threatened all over the world and particularly so in the Caribbean. In fact, only about one-sixth of the original coral cover is left in the Caribbean and all coral reefs in the Caribbean may disappear in the next 20 years. So maybe video likes this will be the only way to experience the beauty of coral reefs in the future? 😢 All footage in this video is shot while snorkeling, hence no SCUBA while making this video. Unfortunately, our underwater camera leaked while we were in the British Virgin Islands, so this video is also a little tribute to our Garmin Virb Ultra 30 camera. I noticed that part of my boom was in bad shape, broken. But Ricardo knew someone whom he was certain could fix my part. That's right, here they fix your busted part rather than replace. We finish the Caledonian Canal by going through the last two locks, and begin our overnight journey to the town of Wick. We have beautiful sunny and calm conditions as we depart, but through the night, storms begin to develop off to our side. As we continue to get even further north, 58 degrees here, the sun is up bright and early at 4:30 am. Plenty of time for us to make it into Wick in the light! We also can't pass through Wick without taking a tour of their famous Pulteney Whisky Distillery. There is a lot of history is this little town! Much love from Scotland! We sail to the island of Meganisi in Greece before hopping over to a stunning anchorage on the Greek island of Kastos. I loved making this video because it reminded me how far we have come. Anchoring with lines to shore feels easy now (most of the time!) and although we still hate Med mooring, it isn't quite so daunting.
