Believe it or not, this ONE TINY little hose clamp is all that’s keeping our boat from potentially sinking to the bottom. It’s part of our centerboard operation, and unfortunately there’s not much we can do to improve it, except to ensure the clamps and hoses are in good condition. So we tear the whole thing apart and make sure all the bits & pieces are up to snuff. It is day 8 of our Atlantic Crossing onboard, and although it took us a week, we are well settled. Around noon, we catch sight of our first ship since departing Mindelo and we are LITERALLY on a collision course. The ship slows down and we are not sure what their intentions are, so Ryan makes up stories in his mind about who they are and what they want. We have plans to build our own catamaran. And we're going to take you through the process on how it's done! Using a Schionning 1200 as an example, we walk you through the steps of what it would take from the time you receive your shipping container full of components, to when your new boat is launched in the water. From finding and building a work space, to setting up the first panels, Matt will tell you each step that is involved, and what we estimate to be the time spent on each process. We expect this build to take approximately two years for us to complete, and will be done in the US, although we have not decided exactly where yet. The Double Over Hand Knot is a variation on the Over Hand knot that creates a larger stopper by adding and additional loop in the main part of the knot. The larger stopper of the Double Over Hand Knot is useful for thinner lines which may slip through the cleat, pulley or eye that the rope is running through. Learning how to tie a double over hand knot only takes seconds, most sailors have most likely tied one even if they don't know what it is called. Another advantage the double over hand not has over the single is that it is more secure prior to any load being applied to it. This results in less chance of the double hand knot coming undo. The double loop of the knot also makes it easier to untie after load has been applied.
