I couldn't wait any longer to climb a mountain, so i did it, right under my own roof. After some internet wizardry and some arduous calculations, i found out to do this i would have to climb 5 flights of stairs, 205 times. Having never climbed more than about 20 stairs at one time before, this was going to be a challenge.... Removing our chainplates turned into quite the ordeal. Some of them were easy to remove and some of them were quite hard due to the use of 5200 to bed them and their bolts. We worked together as a family in this episode and managed to get a lot done, including painting the engine room. This sailboat is coming along! This is how we spent Anzac Day here in the Burnett River as this yacht found a sand bar and required some help to get off.

Our solar power set up aboard our boat. We have been asked how our solar power is set up aboard Dream. Well since buying the boat we have made a few changes. We originally started with three 75 watt solar panels but soon found out during our first season that this wasn't enough for full time live aboard use. We updated our panels to three 160 watt solar panels, and added an extra service battery to give us a total of five 140 amp 12v Bosch batteries. We have also added two of the 75 watt solar panels back into the set up and placed them on the sides of the guard rail. Now we have plenty of solar power. We use a Victron mppt for the main panels and a Renogy mppt for the side panels. We leave pig beach and sail through the most beautiful water we've ever seen, during our day sailing passage through the Exumas, we manage to catch to big barracudas while trolling. We said goodbye to the beautiful New Orleans, an amazing city with a huge amount of positive vibes. The city where the streets breathe jazz and soul! It was truly wonderful. We drove all the way to Orlando in Florida. You can't make a road trip through the USA with your kids and not visit Disney, right? The first day in Orlando we had some rest by the pool and in the evening we visited Disney springs. And the second day we visited Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The children had been looking forward to this moment for so long! Unfortunately, the Disney Magic didn't last long for us. While we were waiting in line to get in our second ride of the day, our son Liam fainted because of some sort of heatstroke and he had to be taken to the hospital. It was incredibly hot that day and we had been standing in line for almost an hour, sometimes in the direct sun. The emergency medical staff took great care of him and they gave him all the necessary treatment. Special thanks goes to the medical team of the Orlando Hospital! After a few hours in the hospital, he was fully recovered and we could take him to the hotel. We had some scary moments that day, but everything ended well. Nous allons y passer à côté sans nous y arrêter, c’est un peu frustrant mais nous le savions. Avant de quitter le Sri Lanka, nous avions réussi à contacter un agent sur Uligan dans l'atoll d'HaaAlifu tout au nord de l’archipel. Sa réponse au bout de trois jours de pourparlers : « I have a very sad news. From todays onwards yachts are not allow to enter Maldives. Sorry! May be see you next year. » Triste nouvelle, les yachts ne sont plus admis aux Maldives, désolé, peut-être l’année prochaine ! Il est sympa le copain ! Bien entendu que nous allons essayer l’année prochaine, un ptit tour par l’Afrique du sud, un détour par la mer rouge et nous revenons nous balader aux Maldives, pfff! Je crois que les fonctionnaires n’ont pas bien compris le principe et les impératifs de voyager en voilier. De toutes manières le verdict est sans appel, tant que la situation mondiale n’ira pas mieux, nous ne sommes pas les bienvenus dans ce pays insulaire. 26 atolls, 1190 îles. Lors de notre premier voyage, nous nous étions cantonnés près de l’île Gan dans l’atoll d’Addu. À l’époque, le paradis des Maldives largement médiatisé était une destination que nous ne voulions pas louper. Nous y sommes restés près de trois semaines, l’eau cristalline nous avait séduite mais à côté de ça, nous avions été troublés par la quantité d’ordures qui croupissaient dans les fonds. Les plages étaient pires encore, outragées de pollution. Comment l’industrie touristique du pays pouvait-elle promouvoir ses côtes splendides quand autant d’immondices ne paraissaient gêner en aucun cas les habitants éduqués à jeter par la fenêtre de leur voiture les papiers d’emballage ? En voulant en savoir plus, nous avions appris que hors des îles dites touristiques ou îles hôtels, les détritus étaient aux Maldives un désastre. Ils s’accumulaient sur des parcelles de sable pour en faire des îles poubelles. Loin de la vue des voyageurs parqués dans leur palace cinq étoiles, ils étaient apprivoisés sans culpabilité par la population accoutumée à ce fléau. Nous espérons pour ces isolées de l’Indien qu’en 7 ans les choses ont évolué dans le bon sens. Trois lueurs se détachent de l’horizon encore sombre. Les précisions sur Navionics sont explicites, des hôtels sont implantés sur les trois îlots que nous allons longer à 4 milles au plus près. Des balises rouges clignotantes indiquent l’entrée des passes, il y en a plusieurs. Impatiemment, sur le pont, nous attendons les premières blancheurs de l’aube, c’est elles qui délivreront de l’obscurité le galbes de ces javeaux. Emportées par les airs, des effluves de fumée nous arrivent et pendant qu’à l’Est, une radieuse rosée s’épanouie, au raz de l’eau, de fluettes silhouettes se révèlent. Sans couleurs, tel un mirage, notre vision s’efface dans nos chimères et progressivement notre horizon retrouve sa platitude. Il était temps, le 29 mars est à marquer d’une pierre blanche, nous venons de remonter à bord notre premier poisson, un magnifique thon rouge de 10 kilos ! Pour le hissage, je ne nous décerne pas la palme de la perfection, nous nous y sommes pris comme des débutants ! Rien à dire sur l’enroulement par lui-même du fil, là où nous avons faillis, c’est au niveau de notre sécurité. Inconscients que nous sommes ! Dans la frénésie, sans harnais, Cyril s’est rué sur la jupe et s’est activé direct à découper notre messie. Les pieds ensanglantés par le fluide corporel de notre butin, sur la marche la plus proche de la flottaison, mon insouciant capitaine qui a frisé l’hameçonnage de l’orteil s’est affairé, satisfait, à dépecer le trophée de notre persévérance ! Qu’en dire ? Surtout, les enfants…. Ne faites JAMAIS ça ! C’est n’importe quoi… parce que si vous voulez un scénario catastrophe, je vais vous en imaginer un moi… L’hameçon s’enfonce dans le pied du papounet, lequel glisse sur la jupe, tombe à l’eau et attiré par le sang du poisson, un requin blanc déchainé charge sur l’appât vivant ! … Ok, vous avez bien compris, ou je vous fais un dessin ! Notre sashimi pose, joliment présenté dans nos assiettes. Nous sommes heureux, déraisonnables mais heureux ! Nous nous nourrissons du fruit de notre pêche, buvons l’eau de notre dessal et respirons à grand poumons ce vent du Nord-Ouest qui s’engouffre dans nos....

The 1993-94 edition was also the first race to feature the new Whitbread 60 class (with 10 boats entered), which caused memorable friction between Dalton and fellow Kiwis Chris Dickson, skipper of the W60 'Tokio' (which dismasted whilst leading Leg 5) and Ross Field, the class winner with Yamaha. Born in Chicago in 1952, Skip Novak is best known for his participation in four Whitbread Round the World Yacht Races, including three as skipper with Alaska Eagle, Drum and Fazisi. Simon Le Bon’s Drum famously capsized in the 1985 Fastnet Race but went on to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Race, finishing third. In 1989 Skip Novak project-managed the build of the first Soviet entry in the Whitbread Race - as the Iron Curtain was coming down, Novak skippered Fazisi in the round the world race.
