As we explore the beautiful Mexican atoll of Chinchorro Bank, we have a surprise visit by the Mexican Navy/Coastguard on the sailboat. The officers were extremely nice and helpful. I'm very thankful for internet access in this uncertain time. I get the rare opportunity to spearfish with one of the officers and they show us how to cook a local Mayan delicacy, Tikin Xic! I definitely recommend a visit, but I would check for proper permits to visit. Found out later on there is a required permit to visit the Atoll under regular circumstances. Thanks for watching!

Bevor die Corona-Einschränkungen gelockert wurden, sind wir noch einen letzten Blitz-Einsatz am Schiff gefahren. Morgens früh hin und abends wieder zurück. So schafft man natürlich nicht so viel, wie an einem kompletten Wochenende, aber es ist trotzdem einiges passiert. Vor allem haben wir endlich die hässlichen Rostnasen im Süll beseitigt. Rost ist einfach absolut das lästigste Phänomen auf einer Stahl Yacht... Mit der Schleifmaschine und Schmirgelpapier ging das Schleifen aber dann wie mit einem Schmutzradierer! O mundo parou por conta do corona vírus. Ilhas fechando suas fronteiras, pessoas sendo proibidas de viajar e nós no meio do caminho para atravessar o Atlântico. No começo a gente até chegou a fazer piadas de como estávamos bem na quarentena (fazendo happy hours, almoços e passeando pela cidade). Mas a verdade é que demorou, mas o corona vírus chegou por aqui também. Claro que nós já estávamos acompanhando tudo (até porque aqui, diferente de outras ilhas do Caribe, temos internet ilimitada - obrigada AT&T!) pela TV. Vimos a epidemia virando pandemia e os casos se espalhando cada vez mais pelo planeta. Quando estávamos em St. Marteen (no meio da Heineken Regatta que recebia vários europeus) eu disse pro Sergio: "isso aqui vai dar caca!". Dito e feito! St. Marteen foi uma das primeiras ilhas a registrar casos de corona. Depois disso a contagem se espalhou por todas as ilhas até elas começarem a fechar suas fronteiras e lockdown - ninguém podia entrar ou sair, o sistema de imigração estava suspenso - e sem a saída de uma ilha você não entra em outra! Era o caos. Decidimos apressar o passo para ficar em uma ilha que nos proporcionasse estrutura de abastecimento de diesel, mercado, remédios e (caso precisássemos) hospitais. Diferente do que nós brasileiros estamos acostumados - e isso não é uma declaração política - a comunicação por aqui é clara e objetiva. Acompanhando as noticias ouvimos o governador dizer: "temos 256 leitos, se todos saírem de casa e pegarem a doença em 3 semanas as pessoas vão morrer. Achatem a curva: fiquem em casa". A ordem de ficar em casa foi decretada depois de 3 dias em que ela foi determinada, fomos ao mercado, nos abastecemos e ficamos trancafiados em casa. Mas para nossa sorte, a nossa casa anda! Ainda pudemos mudar de ancoragem, aproveitar um pouco desse lugar lindo (por baixo d'água) e mal sentimos falta de turistar. Mas se por esse lado estávamos muito bem, obrigada, pelo outro havia muita frustração. Nossos planos de atravessar o Atlântico não tinham mais como continuar. Nossos planos de visitar a família em abril ou junho estavam cada vez mais distantes. E a quarentena só estava começando...

We sail back to Auckland from the Bay of Islands and then pick up our motorhome. We spend another week around the bays in Auckland before emptying the boat and moving back into the motorhome for the rest of the year. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

The family sailing crew of Element, living aboard a Catana 471 Catamaran set sail for the Greek Island of Crete as they make their way out of the Mediterranean Sea towards the Atlantic Ocean after spending the winter in Finike, Turkey and exploring the surrounding area. Sailing to Crete can be a challenge from the east with the typically strong prevailing northwest winds and so it would be for the Element crew with winds over 30 knots on the nose at times. Once safely at anchor the crew visit Spinalonga Fortress near Nikalaos, then have another overnight sail to Chania, where they visit the Palace of Knossos steeped in Greek Mythology of Labyrinths and Minotaurs followed by the wonderful Minoan Civilization Museum. A little update on our current situation and what a cracking sail we had coming back in today

In this Video I give a brief overview of getting some shade over the boat to keep the heat down. Also a look at the new Volvo Penta engine.

I went ahead and added some vertical shade cloth to the framework to give a little more protection on the Eastern facing side of the hull. Then moved on to start correction of the rudder post alignment.
