May 2018 In this weeks episode Dave is at work and I have my friend Sara visiting from the UK , she was only coming for one week...this ended up being one month!! It was great having her with me as I was alone in Miami. She's also a great cook which was a bonus! We experience both the extreme highs and lows of boat life as we get prepared to sail around the Keys. We meet @SailingMissLoneStar for sundowners on Little Miss. We move from the Little Basin to Barley Basin while quarantine takes place in the Keys. Gone with the Wind and Little Miss get swept up in a squall at the anchorage as they drag towards moored and sunken boats. We are Shawn, Jessie, Mojo and Voodoo. We started our Youtube channel, Big Easy Sailing, to document our journey on our 1972 Gulfstar 36 sailboat. We've been together for 20 years and moved everywhere from our hometown of New Orleans to Alaska to Denver to Florida. Now our home will travel with us as we travel across beautiful blue waters. Vlog #6 In this episode we are in Tillamook bay and show you our only reason for even crossing the bar into this bay, which is coined as the most dangerous bar on the whole coast. Its the place Jessica has been the most excited to see so far, THE CHEESE FACTORY. Many buses and lots of walking later we find it, and eat ALL of the cheese. Tillamook definitely did not disappoint us on this adventure. --------------------------------- Instagram- @Sailingdecorum --------------------------------- --------------------------------- *WHO ARE WE?* •We are a Canadian couple, Travis and Jessica. We are cruising around on our 32ft 1981 C&C sailboat. We started our journey in Vancouver, Canada, not really knowing how to sail. Everyday is us just winging it and figuring it out as we go! ••Thanks for following along with us on our adventure! Things have to get worse before they can better , Let the Repairs begin! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ This video was filmed early Febuary before the global pandemic really took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves. If you would like to contribute towards Nandji's repairs please use this link. Thank you. http://paypal.me/SailingNandji If you are getting something out of our videos, please become a Patron to help support our production and adventures. Get Unseen footage, Exclusive vids and the inside scoop! http://www.patreon.com/Nandji In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we are in the boatyard after the worst night of our lives. A mooring we were on failed during a heavy squall in the night and Nandji ended up on the reef. We managed to save her and sail the 50nm back to the boat yard where we are here. After a week of red tape, we are finally able to get stuck into the repairs. I tell you, there is nothing quite like therapy with a grinder as I spend days on end grinding back the hull to expose the damage. With the damage visible the daunting task of cutting massive oles in the boat begins... With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed on our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! WINTER IS COMING AND WE JUST WANT TO GO SAILING❗️ We are dreaming of the day that we get to hoist the sails and head off into blue waters, but instead we are cooped up inside while the wind howls and the temperatures drop. We are still unsure of when we will be allowed to leave port and sail back to Durban/ Ballito. Winter is coming and we would prefer not to be in the Cape for it. Ballito is our home town and we would love to have the comfort of living onboard Saoirse in our familiar surroundings until we are allowed to leave (hopefully by October) for our Atlantic crossing. This is all a waiting game, we are waiting to hear from our president if we will be allowed out of here anytime soon. Ideally, we would have loved to be in the Caribbean by now but for obvious reasons that has not been possible. We have been stuck with 3 weeks of a complete economic lockdown and another 3 weeks of level four lockdown (allowing only essential goods to be sold i.e. winter clothes, baby clothes and hardware store items, as well as the opening up of a small part of the economy) we have been able to get a few items here and there for Saoirse but most of the stuff has to come from Cape Town and with travel still not being allowed, we were not allowed to travel to the city without essential service permits. SO, we carried on. We are finishing all the little bits and bobs around the yacht that we can. We finished fitting our Dometic air-conditioning unit in the saloon while fitting a T piece fitting that allows some of the air to run behind our seating and is released under our stairs into the lower hulls of Saoirse - this will definitely come in handy when we do eventually get to hotter climates. BUT in the meantime we are using the heater on the air-conditioning unit to stay warm as the horrible Cape winter looms. Colben fits our crash locker hatches and wires up our light switches in our cabin - there was lots of swearing and cuss words flying around so we spead up the video and slapped some music over it so you can just enjoy the quick version of the process 😂 We are very happy to finally have lights that we can switch off in our cabin instead of having to switch them off on the main switch board in the saloon. Denver goes diving for some lost clamps and tools that fell off the dock while we were working - this was not an easy task considering the water was 15 degrees C / 59 degrees F. We found a beautiful bush covered in bees - we found it very therapeutic to watch while we take a little break. With no one allowed in the marina Sally the seal takes each day as it comes, often swimming and giving us all a show to watch through our escape hatches as she swims between our hulls. Stay tuned for next weeks episode - our first winter storm hits!
In real time 26 May 2020, we are currently in Mooloolaba and we couldn't help but share this beautiful sunset we had at Mooloolaba Marina. Mooloolaba is on the sunshine coast and is a beautiful beach front town! Strangford Lough Yacht Club once again hosted the season ending Frosties Regatta on the picturesque shores of upper Strangford Lough. There were 9 yachts entered in this years IRC 1 regatta, with 7 boats regularly hitting the start line. The racing in this years Frosties Regatta was closer than ever in the IRC 1 class with the boats regularly finishing within seconds of each other and several ties which is rare to see in ICR racing. GTR was back to defend their title which they won for the first time in the last year Frosties. They were expecting close competition from two other local boats, HiJacker and Flint, and you would be unwise to rule out MoviStar Blue who has won the regatta countless times before. The Regatta was held over 4 weekend with 8 races in total. The series was a classic with 3 different race winners and 3 boats that could still take the title coming into the last day for racing. Race 5 was a highlight with close racing and multiple lead changes be sure to check it out !

A short 12 minute 'glimpse' of the 3 1/2 years we spent restoring the former Whitbread Maxi 'Creighton's Naturally' also known as 'FCF Challenger' and 'Ocean Greyhound'. Now known as 'Camara', she was built for the 1981/1982 Whitbread Round the World race and was the first of 10 Ocean 80's built by Southern Ocean Shipyard in the UK. She is a David Alan-Williams & Doug Peterson co-design. When we bought the boat, she was in very sad shape and neglected condition. We knew the only way to do the job properly was to start right back in the beginning which saw us strip the boat to bare hull and start again. With no sponsors, a limited budget and only the two of us working on the boat, it became the biggest project of our lives! There are things we would have liked to do different if we had had no time or budget constraints and there certainly are still many 'projects' we have planned on 'Camara', but we are proud of what we have achieved and hope it gives others the motivation to take on a 'project boat' and breath some new life into a deserving yacht in need of TLC. Please note that Peter is a qualified boat builder and rigger which obviously played a huge part in the outcome of the rebuild. Please also note that there were many different stages, projects etc that are not all shown in the video but I tried my best to show the many stages along the course of the project to give you an idea.

A few of the gales from the Southern Ocean, unfortunately I broke all the camera mounts and could only take footage while the seas were manageable. As a certain point I would need both hands when on deck. For the entire story you can find my book on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sailing+into+oblivion&ref=nb_sb_noss
The months spent deep in the Southern Ocean were almost over as Cape Horn was only a few hundred miles away. Snow, Squalls and calms both day and night. Difficult to sail but amazing to be there. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe to our Channel. If you are enjoying our videos, please support us on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/sailingmokara Barbuda is truly Paradise Found! Antigua is quite different to Barbuda but also a place well worth visiting for different reasons. Our sail took us from Guadeloupe to Antiqua in fairly strong winds and a bumpy sea so it was nice to arrive in the sheltered waters of English Harbour. English Harbour has limited space to anchor, so we motored around for about 45 minutes before we finally found a spot that we could make work. We needed to drop the anchor and then take a stern line to the shore which we tied to a tree. The stern line stops the boat swinging around the anchor and ensures we won't ever get close to the other boats at anchor. The harbour itself is a natural harbour situated on the South of the Island. English Harbour is best known for Nelson's Dockyard, a former British Navy base; it displays restored 18th and 19th-century buildings and other historical artefacts from the colonial period of the dockyard, especially the time it was commanded by Horatio Nelson. There is a lot to read about the history online which is interesting so be sure you look it up, it is fascinating. Nelson's Dockyard is quite incredible and is a cluster of restored buildings forming the marina. It is like being in an old village in the U.K. and sometimes it felt like we were somewhere along the Cornish Coast..... The heat quickly reminds you are not! We loved looking at all the buildings and really enjoyed the museum. We were lucky to witness one of the rowers arrive following rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. Jim Phelan completed it in 63 days. It was an incredible feeling being there when he arrived and we felt lucky to be part of this event for a short moment. We always felt that we had achieved quite a lot by sailing across the Atlantic. Jim's achievement made us feel like we had come across in a cruise ship. Congratulations to everyone who took part we admire your achievement. I think I will sign Claire up to do it! From English Harbour, we sailed around the corner to Falmouth Harbour where there is a larger anchorage. From here you still have easy access to Nelson's Dockyard. It is about a 10 minute walk so we went back a couple more times to enjoy the atmosphere, buildings and walks. We managed to find some free WiFi which was relatively easy. We noticed a cluster of sailors all on their phones and it wasn't long before we got our WiFi fix. It is always nice to be in touch with everyone again and get weather updates. Our next stop was Jolly Harbour. The harbour is quite large with houses around the perimeter each with their own dock. This looked great in the photos, but in reality it is quite rundown. There is a great shop there for provisioning so we stocked up and made our way to Hermitage Bay to meet friends already at anchor there. Hermitage bay is small and is really only suitable for about 4 small yachts. We loved it here and watched the waves exploding the seawater through a rock funnel just in front of Mokara. Paradise or Barbuda was calling and we set sail for the Island with enough time to ensure we arrived in good light so that we could see the coral and rocks and ensure we dropped the anchor in a sandy patch. When you arrive, all you see in the distance is a white streak of beach sand that extends for miles with very no development. The water is crystal clear and the beach sand is super soft and in some areas near Palmetto Point, it is pink! There were not many yachts here though. We knew 4 of them so we had a nice group with us. I walked along the beach one morning on my own and loved the isolation. Bermuda was however hit by Hurricane Irma and evidence of this still exists along this amazing beach. Abandoned hotels are an eyesore and it is sad that they are not cleared up. Despite this some of the most incredible beachfront plots are up for grabs despite the locals not wanting the land to be sold to foreigners. Please read Claire's blog on this as it is very interesting. We went further north on Barbuda to check out at Customs and Immigration and were anchored near a large hotel that had been victim to the hurricane and was now slipping into and polluting the sea. The locals are so friendly and we managed to get some provisions from a small shop here along with about 8 crayfish from a local fisherman. On the beach that night we had a crayfish BBQ and watched the sun go down. We loved Barbuda and look forwards to going back there. To think some yachts are there in COVID lockdown makes me a bit envious. Watch our next episode as we sail to Sint Maarten, we stand behind a boeing as it takes off and set sail to Colombia. After breaking a chainplate in a squall near St. Barth’s, we return to St. Martin with our tail between our legs, ready to take on our biggest project yet. So far we have removed all of the lower shroud chainplates and handed them over for fabrication. In this video, Nick does some deck repair before Kelly helps to install the new chainplates fresh out of the machine shop.
With little Suria to Norway # 03 The stop in Kristiansand is getting shorter than we thought and we have to go out into the night again. Is it going to be a wild crossing out on the legendary Skagerrak? Will we be able to reach Skagen on Denmark's northern tip more than 100 miles away with a 25 foot nutshell? Hope, you will be surprised. Have fun with it!
SO I know I know, this is older footage. As many of you know we bought a bigger boat, but this was PRE COVID and PRE super boat renovation stress. Easier, happier, calmer times. Videos about Sarah G will be here soon, but for now, enjoy our time in the Exumas. This was all filmed before Covid-19 had become a pandemic We hope so much that everyone is staying safe, staying healthy and staying socially distant. We care about you all!
