Suite du périple Corse

Voilà quelques jours que nous sommes arrivés au port du Marin en Martinique à bord de notre fidèle voilier le Wild. Il nous aura fallu deux semaines pour traverser l’Atlantique du Cap-Vert aux Antilles. Nous réalisons à peine que nous venons de traverser un océan. La chaleur des tropiques est sublime et nous fait oublier la fatigue. Nous décidons de partir de suite à la découverte des Petites Antilles, cette longue chaîne d’îles paradisiaques en pleine mer des Caraïbes. Nous rejoignons nos amis des bateaux Grégal et Zao pour aller fêter dignement cette nouvelle année, qui s’annonce pleine de rêves et de surprises. Nous quittons la Martinique pour le sud. Nous faisons une première escale à Sainte-Lucie. Puis après une courte halte à Wallilaboo sur l’île de Saint-Vincent, nous mettons le cap sur Salt Whistle Bay à Mayreau dans les Grenadines pour le 31 décembre. Il y a foule, mais c’est parfait pour faire la fête. Notre périple se poursuit aux Tobago Cays, nous profitons pendant plusieurs semaines de l’eau turquoise et de la richesse des fonds marins dans toutes les Grenadines avant de remonter sur la Martinique. Cette fois, c’est le nord qu’il reste à découvrir. Nous commençons par la Dominique, ses paysages sauvages et ses habitants vraiment accueillants. Puis nous continuons jusqu’à Marie-Galante pour aller passer quelques jours avec nos amis de Zao. Nous faisons la connaissance d’Henry et de son bar sur la plage, avant un retour en Martinique. Nous devons y ramener un copain, venu pour les vacances, qui doit prendre un avion pour la Suisse. Et c’est là que le monde s’arrête grâce à l’invité surprise : le Covid-19 ! After four days waiting out the weather in Mykonos (Greece), we finally head off southwest and west toward Malta, the first major leg of a trip that eventually extends all the way to the Caribbean. But within hours we receive a chilling Pan Pan (distress call) notifying us and others of a tragedy in the making. A diver has become entangled in fishing nets, and as we discover later, has died. This is a nightmare shared by sailors worldwide, the realization that nets have wrapped around your prop and you have no alternative but to dive to cut them free. Being too far away to respond, we continue on, shaken and saddened to be sure. By dusk, we’ve reached the southern tip of the Peloponnese, the three fingers of land that jut from the bottom of the Greek mainland. We’re amazed to discover that under the strong winds we’d encountered all day we had actually covered a full third of the Aegean Sea! Shipping was heavy in the narrow traffic separation zone between Greece and the island of Kythira, and Wendy was on high alert during her moonlight watch. She held Talisman tight to the edge of the zone while tankers, freighters, and even cruise ships passed silently by. From there it was sailing in all its glory, from light and variable winds that barely kept us moving, to marvelous beam reaches under full and reefed sails that made short work of hundreds of miles. After three days of incredible conditions through surprisingly smooth water, Malta appeared in the mists of a beautiful dawn. The hour or more of waiting for permission to enter didn’t rate well enough to include in the episode, but boy was it worth it. WE Sail into Costa Rica from the Pacific Panama coast before all the corona $h!t hit the fan. Cleared in and COVID free, or whatever that meant since we have been a little out of touch with reality. But, our current reality was that we could still do what we always do and that's chill on the boat and take in our new environment of another country! WE didn't know what the heck was going on with the world or what we were to expect to be honest, but all we knew was that were were good to start exploring and sailing the coast of Costa Rica's Pacific Coast.... So for the first week we relaxed aboard Evolias, took some trips to the beach, tried surfing... tried and Warren even rigged up another amazing boat tool. A must need for any boat, watch and you will see:) We also spent a few days at anchor out in front of our friends beautiful beach resort, called Iguana Lodge on the Osa Peninsula enjoying their seaside jungle amenities reflecting on how lucky we are to be where we are doing what we have always dreamed of. While visiting BioTrek In Martha’s Vineyard, a Boston couple talks about what it is like to liveaboard during Boston winter. A few day later, BioTrek’s departs from Martha’s Vineyards and the passage is blanketed in thick fog that does not let up until we are past the treacherous Woods Hole passage. We then take the viewers through a stroll through the Charlestown Navy Yard to walk Tiller and then through the Boston Commons where we also take Tiller for walks. City posters in the Commons pay tribute to black volunteers during the Civil war, a mostly neglected history of the American Civil War.
