Nach einer Nacht an der idyllischen Gieselau-Schleuse am Nord-Ostsee-Kanal fuhren wir das zweite Teilstück des NOK knapp 60km bis nach Kiel Holtenau. Es ging an Wacken, Rendsburg und der Lürssen-Werft vorbei. An der Schleuse in Kiel Holtenau zahlten wir unsere Kanalgebühren und hatten noch eine nette Unterhaltung mit den anderen Seglern, die mit uns um Wartebereich im Päckchen lagen. Warten mussten wir auch hier nicht lange, die Kieler Schleuse öffnete sich schon bald für uns und wir konnten endlich in die Ostsee einlaufen! Damit war ein großer Meilenstein auf unserem Überführungstörn erreicht. Wir motorten durch die Kieler Förde in den Olympiahafen Schilksee - für die paar Meilen wollten wir nicht erst die Segelkleider abnehmen und alles klar machen. Mt. Hartman estava uma delícia, mas depois que saímos para conhecer Hog Island a gente voltou decidido: vamos ancorar aqui! Aproveitamos o término das obras e ficamos por aqui mais um pouco para aproveitar o que essa baía tem de mais interessante: os agitos e as atividades sociais! Para se ter uma ideia, existe uma agenda divulgada no Facebook com todos os eventos. São eles, por exemplo, Yoga gratuita na segunda na , ginástica na praia, Happy hour na terça na marina, quinta na outra marina, música no NimRods... dá pra se perder aqui! Enfim, tem também a facilidade de várias vendinhas locais super fáceis (mas pouco estruturadas) para comprar um pouco de cada coisa: pão, legumes, mercearia... Mas é claro que o que a gente gostou mesmo foram dos barzinhos e da comunidade divertida dos velejadores que se reúne pelos cantos e parece sempre ávida a se conhecer o tempo todo. As pessoas nos abordam perguntando de onde somos, é muito interessante. Estamos adorando. :)

We drill holes in our rudder then tackle making homemade bus bars for the wiring to our electric motor. Todd gets copper bar stock cut and tinned by Storm Copper and figures out how to make a mold to pour our own bases. These saved us tons of money over buying electrical bus bars from someone like blue sea. Making Bus Bars to carry 600 amps at 48 volts DC - buy tinned copper stock 1 1/4" x 1" x 6" (Storm Copper) - make molds for base out of vinyl downspout and wood as seen in video - drill and tap for bronze 3/8" studs - insert studs - wipe down with acetone or alcohol before putting in molds to remove oils. - add nuts under copper stock to allow epoxy to run underneath. - add nylon spacers for mounting holes to mold. - mix epoxy and pour into mold. We used electronic bedding epoxy. - let cure. - drill mounting holes We are a family preparing to sail around the world in our electric sailboat. We have been hanging out to take Nutshell out for a sail but the weather has not been kind enough. I wouldn’t say that we are fair weather sailors but huge storms hit the coast and we had to delay heading off. After much fiddling Magnus finally manages to get the impeller out of the Volvo engine using an ingenious technique. We take Nutshell out and gently float over to Funnel Bay which is a mere two nautical miles around the headland. It’s wonderful to be out again. We did plan on cleaning her bottom but murky waters put us off! As we return to Airlie Beach we are fortunate enough to be there at exactly the right time, the start of Airlie Beach Race week. There isn’t much wind, but the sight of the yachts heading out of Pioneer Bay is majestic. Thanks for watching. We’ll see you all next time.
