This episodes gets a flying start with a BBQ at the arctic circle in an amazing norwegian scenery. It was only 10 degrees celsius on the 4.th of June and a lot of snow, but the sun was up and I pored up a glass of Rose wine and enjoyed the view and the late night sun in the beautiful land of the midnight sun. I then give you a fast driving roadtrip where we even spot reindeer by the road on my way up to Sørarnøy where I meet the crew from "In the same boat". Thru a facebook group I had been tipped off about this project named «In the same boat» who is collecting plastic on the coast of Norway. It sounded like a really interesting project and I wanted to see with my own eyes how thy work and if this problem is as huge as I was told. I made contact with the leader of this group and Rolf invited me to join them for a day to film. For me this was a real treat. I got to spend a day in this amazing archipelago, I got to meet a bunch of enthusiastic and dedicated people I got to learn something important and I got a great story to share with you guys! But before I could join them picking plastic I had to prove myself worthy by having a special shot. It was very strong, but not from alcohol… When the crew heard I was a chef they asked if I could cook for them. At first I was a bit hesitant, after all I was on vacation! But after seeing what an amazing job they did I could not say no. We got a boat neighbor to fish for us and I prepared it for them with a few helpers from the crew. Since they are living in 2 crowded sailboats it is not easy to cook one meal for all, so I had to make it simple. Wrapping fish in foil for the BBQ is an easy way of doing it, and I made a special sauce recipe of mine which they seemed to like. I made plenty, but there was nothing left! Next episode will be dedicated to picking plastic in the archipelago of the Helgeland coastline. This was a real eye opener for me and probably my best video yet in my opinion, so do not miss out. Vlog#16 Woke up in Cuyler harbour and we had a whale swimming around the anchorage all day! When we left there we were basically empty on diesel, and there was almost no wind. So we went extremely slow all the way there. We eventually got all the way to Bechers Bay without having to turn on the engine. It was an all day event, which should've normally taken 3 hours. Ohwell, at least we made it! Left Bechers Bay in the morning and the wind was finally blowing so we were making good time. That is until that night when we ran into the craziest thickest fog all night, couldn't see a thing. It lifted by the morning and the wind came back and we cruised into Cat Harbour. We got some diesel, checked out the town, had showers and went back to the boat for a much needed nap! --------------------------------- *WHO ARE WE?* •We are a Canadian couple, Travis and Jessica. We are cruising around on our 32ft 1981 C&C sailboat. We started our journey in Vancouver, Canada, not really knowing how to sail. It’s our first time on a mooring ball! In this weeks episode we get ready to move from Club Mykonos Marina - Langebaan to Saldanha Bay Yacht Club. Chris Boock came to help us and make sure all our systems were tested and ready for the move. Moving from the security of a marina and the convenience of being moored to a dock is what has kept us at Club Mykonos for so long but after being given the opportunity to live off of a swing mooring for half the price we jumped at the opportunity. We are having to leave our comfort zone and step out into the world of ‘off-the-grid living’ which will inevitably become our way of life when we finally get to start our adventures! Sometimes we just need a little push to get there 😂 We are excited but also nervous because we are still in the Western Cape and will still have to contend with the miserable winter storms. During our last sea trial before moving Saoirse, we had our first ever dolphin spotting from Saoirse herself. This could only mean good luck, right?? With everything that has been going on we could use a little luck right now! On moving day Robin, Chris, Denver and Colben motor sailed Saoirse across the lagoon to Saldanha Bay Yacht Club. Teagan and I drove the car and the trailer full of tools and supplies across to Saldanha. We will use the trailer as a storage unit for all our stuff while still finishing up the last of the work on Saoirse. We settled down for a braai, in the evening of our first day on a mooring ball and had beautiful still weather for the night. DOLPHIN ALERT 🚨 We spotted a huge pod of dolphins and seals feeding on bait below the surface of the water. We couldn’t help but hop in the dinghy and try and get an up-close experience with them. We didn’t want to scare them so we used our ores to get around but because they were dashing from one place to another, it was hard to keep up with them. Nevertheless it was an awesome experience! So the next stage of our adventure has started. Living off the grid and planning our Trans Atlantic crossing later this year -hopefully😳 - a lot depends on the world Covid situation. What's it like to build a yacht with Lyman-Morse? It begins with the mock-up, a full scale model of the project constructed from plywood. It allows the builder and customer to get a full spatial understanding of the vessel, which helps eliminate costly changes further down the road.
