Barrett and I anchored our sailboat out in Mariner’s Basin, Mission Bay, for the weekend. We brought along my custom 9’0” Tim Bessell longboard and a Channel Islands single fin named “My Lil’ Pony” for some fun summer micro waves. What a blast to paddle across the bay, straight to the ocean for small, but really fun! waves at Mission Beach. In the 3rd part of our Pacific crossing we finally arrive on Nuku Hiva, Marquesas islands, French Polynesia! After we passed last episode the area around Galapagos we finally have some find! During one sunset we got our line from the gennaker around the propeller and the engine is not working anymore! Bad luck but we are a sail boat! We arrive safe in Nuku Hiva and remove the line short before we enter the anchorage... Sorry for sometimes bad sound, but our GoPro mircophone started to give up... We head to Tetepare Island, the largest uninhabited island in the South Pacific, also known as the Last Wild Island, We speak to one of the Rangers based on the island. Finding out about the unique history, wildlife, flora and fauna to be found on the island, before continuing on to Ghizo Island.

This week we sail from Bequia to our beloved Tobago Cays, where we reunite with our COVID family and meet some new friends along the way. Kieran thinks it's a good idea to test Isabelle's swimming abilities whilst sailing, maybe not the best captain's decision. We are sure if the people aboard this boat were part of the parade but as you can see they did get some help

After splashing back in the water from a recent haul out, we decide that our cutlass bearing replacement has solved our strange underwater noise problem that we were having. The next day, overdue for some fun, we take part in a Cruisers Regatta. Put together by local cruisers as part of Carriacou Sailing Regatta, we all don our team t-shirts and hitch a ride on Adrianna 1, a 49ft Hunter owned by our friends Craig and Zena. Another 20 boats turn up for the race and as the starting horn blows we being the race around the island of Carriacou. A few rain squalls and sail changes later, we make the final turn into the bay and towards the finish line. Having been in the lead for most of the race, we're sure we've got this in the bag... until we hit a patch of calm and the catamaran behind us starts making ground. Season 7 : Episode #147 : Enjoying the anchorage at Cat Harbor Hello Friends, After Camille and Mister Steady's hike on the Trans-Catalina Trail she was ready for some food prepared by someone else (and steady was ready for a long nap). We made our way ashore with the help of our new to us 1973 Johnson 2-stroke outboard (who served us brilliantly the entire time we were on the island). This is the first trip we have ever done with a "reliable" outboard for the dinghy and boy what a dream it is!!!! After enjoying some grub at Two Harbors we made our way back to Triteia while watching lots of "Mullet" fish jumping out of the water. As the sun was setting an older gentleman in a small sailboat came sailing slowly into the bay. We chatted boat to boat as he sailed and made his way up near the dinghy dock and anchored! Foraging off the land, eating the goats that we're put there for that very reason. There is a beautiful energy on this island, its beauty, ruggedness, rawness really is something else, a true oasis. We were beyond stoked that we got to sail there on our very own vessel. We were fortunate enough to squeeze into the lagoon on high tide and run our boat dry for the first time ever! This is one of the reasons we wanted a catamaran and we were so happy with how she sat on the sand. Every time we venture further and further into the Great Barrier Reef we are blown away by its diversity. It reminds us of our place within it and how delicate the systems within it really are. And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. On navigue jusqu’à Compass Cay pour affronter notre peur de nager avec plusieurs requins. On continue ensuite notre route vers l’aquarium des Exumas dans le parc protégé où l’on observe de magnifiques coraux en santé et une multitude de poissons colorés. Puis, il est déjà temps de retourner à Nassau afin de faire des provisions en préparation pour l’arrivée de notre invité spécial la semaine prochaine. One morning we were sitting having breakfast when we spotted a strange object floating towards us. Shawn and the boys went to investigate. It was an old discarded fridge! We’ve seen many fridges floating in the waters of Panama. So we decided to tow this one back to land before it drifted into a boat or out to sea where it could have become a navigational hazard. Dylan had some fun riding in the fridge on the way to the marina! Shortly after Shawn’s birthday it was Dylan’s. It was quite a milestone birthday for Dylan - 13!! Birthdays have become less about what we get and more about how we can spoil each other on the day. We don’t have shops or Amazon really available to have endless present delivered, so its normally just a few small token gifts that I manage to find in the supermarket wrapped up and then a day of FUN! On Dylan’s agenda was all his favourite things to do. Snorkelling, spearfishing, pizza, friends and wake boarding! Being in an area far from cities makes provisioning slightly challenging. We have a fruit and veg truck which comes to the marina everyday, which we use for all our fresh produce. But eventually we need to get to a big store to buy things like pasta, rice, flour, peanut butter etc. Some friends anchored close to us managed to borrow a car for a day and we all took the opportunity to go into Colon to do some grocery shopping. It is around an hours drive from Linton Bay and along the way you pass a few small villages. The countryside is beautiful, with jungle and rolling hills. Because the villages are so remote there is no garbage collection, so the road was covered in trash! As you enter a village you see it building up, and then the entire side of the road is just piled high! It was a terrible sight, and very sad. If there is no collection what do people do? They don’t really have a choice. We know it rains hard here in Panama, which means all this garbage gets washed away from where it is left, probably into the rivers and sea. It made me realise why there is so much on the uninhabited islands, as they just catch it all, before it heads out to sea. The supermarkets in Panama are massive! They are all the American supermarkets, so you can get pretty much anything you like. I did a massive shop which filled up all our lockers. So we should be fine for a long time before we need to do a trip into town again! Along the way we got to stop at a town called Portabello. This is where Shawn had to go to check us into Panama. It’s a very small town with a lot of history. There is a castle which was very important in the 16th and 17th century, and was fought over by the Spanish and English, which meant it had to be rebuilt a number of times. It was a beautiful historical site to see. I just hope we can take the boat there once it’s safe to do so because of COVID. The last perfect day we took a long dinghy ride around the mainland to a secluded beach! We had 3 families and 3 dinghy, as it was a way to go you need to make sure you are not alone! We anchored the dinghy behind the surf and swam to shore. The beach was beautiful! It was in the middle of the jungle, we spotted sloths and jaguars. Sadly there was an awful amount of plastic on the beach. As we had to swim back to the dinghy’s through the surf with bags and children it was not possible for us to pick up rubbish and take it home with us without risking loosing it in the surf. Also there was so much that we would have needed an army of people and bags to make even a small difference! I hate seeing what we are doing to these beautiful places. Its hard to believe that there is not a place on earth that is not touched by human pollution! I’d hate to think how these places will look in 25 years time! We are not sure what the answer is, and we feel a little helpless. Perhaps all we can do is highlight the problem in the hope that people will become more conscious in their everyday lives, and stop using convenience items such as take away packaging or plastic drinks. If we all refuse to buy these items maybe we can slow down the production of them… We’ve decided we need to try and make a difference and get these beaches cleaned up. So we are going to raise funds to get a local recycling company to come and collect the trash we collect. We are also going to try and get the help of the local community. We hope that if they can see what a difference we can make, the waste will not end up in the rivers and sea in the first place.

Unsere erste Nacht auf der Ostsee hatten wir im Olympiahafen Kiel Schilksee verbracht und wollten am Morgen dann direkt weiter zu unserem Liegeplatz in Heiligenhafen. Im Mai waren allerdings schon Schießübungen der Marine angesetzt und so war das Schießgebiet zwischen Kiel und Heiligenhafen Sperrgebiet. Wir mussten also einen großen Bogen um das Sperrgebiet segeln und konnten dabei alle möglichen Windwinkel ausreizen. Los ging es hart am Nordwestwind, später konnten wir dann nach und nach auf halben Wind und schließlich auf eine schöne Backstagsbrise abfallen. In Heiligenhafen angekommen war es an der Zeit klar Schiff zu machen, denn wir erwarteten Crew für das Pfingstwochenende! Quando você decide passar uma temporada de furacões no Caribe as pessoas sempre te dizem: Grenada é super seguro. Qualquer coisa você tem 5 dias para planejar, a previsão aqui é ótima! E se vier um furacão na sua direção você veleja para o Sul, vai para Trinidad Tobago. Claro! Só que quando existe uma pandemia o risco de você ser processado pela ilha por uma entrada ilegal é alto. Ah, uma semana antes 22 pessoas foram presas por fazer entrada por mar sem permissão e essa matéria percorreu todos os grupos do Facebook. A opção velejar para o sul estava descartada. E os 5 dias que teríamos para a previsão? Esquece! Até um dia antes a previsão falava em furacão e quando ele chegou até nós era uma rajadinha! Sim, ele ganhou força depois, mas passou por nós como um rabicho de tempestade. Claro que estávamos abrigados, mas a passagem dele foi inúmeras vezes mais tranquila do que o nervoso de ficar esperando e trackeando a nossa primeira tempestade. Acessamos bilhões de sites, acompanhamos diversos webinars que explicavam todos os passos do Gonzalo e eu quase fiquei maluca. Mas no final, preferi assim. Não sei se estou preparada para passar esse nervoso todo!

Day two of my 8-day cruise, we left Misaki and were gone with the wind, reaching a milestone in my sailing journey: Oshima Island! The cruise was amazing, and we sailed most of the way with a wing on wing configuration. Located off the coast of Japan, Oshima is the gateway to the Pacific Ocean. This will be a benchmark on my journey when I set off to sail across the Pacific by myself on SV Wahine. The island is home to Godzilla, was featured in Koji Suzuki's "The Ring," and appears in various anime -- including the Pokemon franchise. The volcanic island had major eruptions in 1965 and 1986, and last erupted in 1990. Members sailing our two Squibs and a Soling. The weather in the week was a mixed bag and kept changing. If in doubt, turn up and see what the weather is. As it happens it turned out to be a grand day's sailing. The day before the forecasts were F4-5. When we arrived it was a fresh morning with the a strong F4. We went ahead and rigged and launched and the wind was a steady F4 and no rain. Let's go sailing! Sisters Naomi and Sarah Clark joined us for their first sail on Squib Satyr. Chris jumped aboard Squib Lift Off with Mike and John and Dave sailed Soling Time Flies. A good chance for us all to enjoy a sail and very pleasant sailing conditions with the lake virtually to ourselves - At one stage we counted just four other boats and the Rutland Belle. Just another day in paradise.

So we filmed this a while ago and weren't going to put it out, but then figured that those of you that just like to see what we as a family get up to might enjoy it, so here it is Its not the most interesting or exciting of films, but then again, that what most days on board are like, so this is just a typical day of messing around on the water in the river Medway, or at least it is for us :-) If you would like to leave a comment and find that YouTube has disabled them again on this film, then please take a look at the community tab on our page.
