Sailing ORIZON - Segeln im Mittelmeer... Korfu und ein paar böse Überraschungen Wir sind total happy dass wir nun in Griechenland sind aber die Freude währt nicht lang. Kurz bevor wir in der Marina Gouvia ablegen wollen testen wir unser Dinghi und müssen feststellen, dass der Außenborder heiß läuft. Es kommtkein K ühlwasser raus und wir vermuten, dass der Impeller verschlissen ist. Eigentlich war der Außenborder in der Werft Cantierri San Giorgio noch in der Wartung und da rechnet man mit so was natürlich nicht. Also googeln wir was zu tun ist und zerlegen den Außenborder... dies passiert natürlich an einem Samstag und Feiertag und somit können wir auch keine Werkstatt zu Rate ziehen. Dann der nächste Streich, als wir die Wassertanks ganz voll machen beginnt einer davon gehörig zu tropfen. Ein Leck im Edelstahlwassertank, das hat uns gerade noch gefehlt! Also gehen wir auch dieses Problem an und bekommen alles irgendwie in Griff. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We are totally happy that we are now in Greece but the joy does not last long. Shortly before we want to cast off in Marina Gouvia, we test our dinghy and find out that the outboard is running hot. No cooling water comes out and we suspect that the impeller is worn out. The outboard was actually still being serviced at the Cantierri San Giorgio shipyard and of course you don't expect something like that. So we google what needs to be done and dismantle the outboard ... this of course happens on a Saturday and a public holiday and so we cannot consult a workshop. Then the next trick, when we fill the water tanks completely, one of them starts to drip. A leak in the stainless steel water tank, we were just missing that! So let's tackle this problem too and somehow get everything under control. The new Edencraft 565 with a 150HP Mercury, taken through the notorious Port Phillip Heads. A light breeze with 2-3m swells in some parts, and messy seas due to heavy winds the day before (upwards of 40knots). Perfect conditions to test a new boat. The 565 performed beautifully. This is a turn-key boat perfect for a small family or a couple. The seating layout is perfect for entertaining and hanging out and has lots of space for 8 people. Come on board of our full foiling catamaran for an adrenaline-charged ride in very strong winds and with heavy waves. It was the last day of the famous Princessa Sophia trophy in Palma de Mallorca. Fife days of racing with many downs and a few ups lay behind us. But we did not quit, even when we faced the extreme conditions. We were not the fastest but we managed to sail all races with no injuries or capsizes. Sometimes it's a bit frustrating when you are "the last boat standing" and all of your direct competitors have quit. For us it was crucial to develop a safe way of sailing the boat in storm conditions. We never had a full time coach who could tow us back to the safe harbor. When we went sailing we were on our own. Unfortunately I can't show you much of the downwind because after a big nosedive the GoPro was pointing in the sky. But even the tough upwind is impressive, If I may say so. But it’s easier to tackle these tasks before the planking goes on, and I’ve had the help of a shipbuilding engineer to work out the best shape and size for these alarming new holes. Also in this episode, I finally make the template for the final shape of the transom, and Pete fairs it into the rest of the hull very nicely - more-or-less completing the tedious but valuable fairing job. Cakewalk has 3 fresh water tanks for a total of 115 gallons. We run all water through carbon filters which need to be changed about every 5,000 gallons. The filters we use block many organics and parasites. Originally this boat had no water filters. We installed 2 GE GXWH04F whole house water filtration systems. They were $20 ea at Home Depot. All water tanks go through these filters first so all of our faucets reap the benefit. They are installed by the water heater and there is a rather small access panel which is a tight fit. We run a 5 micron carbon filter in the first filter and a 1 micron in the second. Episode 141: Becoming Pigeon Whisperers? As we await our borders to open up as well as Namibian borders we opted to get some sight seeing done + a few boat tasks at hand. We wanted to vented the area where our inverter is just to reduce the amount of heat in the cabinet. We went to Company Gardens here in Cape Town to feed the pigeons and squirrels (who knew we were secretly becoming pigeon whisperers) yeah right... they just wanted bread and peanuts 😂 We also went wine tasting (I WAS SO EXCITED) I've always wanted to come to Cape Town for wine tastings (in case you didn't know.. the Western Cape is notorious for their wine) we had so much fun but it was back to work for us. Ricky is doing the finishing touches on some installations he has going on here and I started spring cleaning (it's spring here in South Africa now) and organizing the boat a bit to prepare her to store a ton of food! After a rebuild of two years, we leave the marina, on our way to the horizon, broken arm or not! :-) It didn't totally go like we hoped, and we had some technical difficulties, but we did our first 31 nautical miles, from Pylos to Kyparissía. ✍️21 août, ce que j’aime cette vie ! Les jours se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas. Mon capitaine peut bien m’amener où il veut, tout me convient. Je lui laisse le choix de l’organisation et de nos itinéraires et quand les envies et la météo se combinent, il évalue nos possibilités, m’expose les propositions qui s’offrent à nous et comme à l’habitude, je m’abandonne confiante à sa décision. Celle de ce matin va nous conduire à une dizaine de mille, dans la baie de Port Cockburn ! Non, je vous assure, ce n’est pas une erreur, c’est bien Cockburn et entre nous soit dit, si le patronyme a bien une origine, la brûlure a drôlement dut marquer le pauvre marin pour qu’il en soit inspiré de la sorte à la nomination de ce port ! Trêve de plaisanterie, savez-vous que près de cette rade, sur la péninsule de Mkumbuu se trouvent des ruines datant du XIIIe siècles et mon Tchoupi a dans l’idée d’aller les filmer avec sa « bibite » volante…Positionnées en bord de mer, nous pouvons accéder à ces fouilles datant de 1950, en annexe, en longeant le village de Ndagoni et ses plantations de palmiers. Mais cette approche ne doit pas être courante, les enfants intrigués, courent sur plusieurs mètres pour suivre notre progression. Ils nous font signe, nous attendent sur la plage. Devant les globes transparents et remplis d’air que je leur fais voltiger autour d’eux, leurs sourires s’illuminent. Nous avions avec nous, un tube de bulles à savon, ce n’est pas grand-chose, juste un savant mélange avec de l’eau mais en un instant, dans leurs yeux, nous avons vu toute la poésie de cette magie ! Ce pouvoir exercé est partout, en sommes-nous plus réceptifs en voyage, en prenant le temps, en s’ouvrant au monde ou en regardant tout simplement ? Notre sensibilité en permanence sollicitée s’étonne de tout et le moindre coquillage peut devenir le figurant d’une scène comique ! Suffit juste de le regarder, attendre et trouver le bon scénario et en trois secondes, nous avons le trailer d’un prochain film… L’homme qui parlait à noix de Saint-Jacques ! 23 août, les images d’Ovitalmap sont trop tentantes, à une heure trente à peine, un petit fer à cheval complètement au centre ouest de Pemba renferme un turquoise lagon et pour en profiter une grande partie de la journée, dès 7 heures, sans vent, mon skipper allume les machines et s’engage dans la passe de Owen Channel. Kashani, 5º10.178’S ; 39º37.214’E, les cartes satellite n’ont pas mentis ! Dans une transparence émeraude, comme sortie des mains d’un artiste prodige, des géofacts extraordinairement sculptés émergent subtilement et donnent au paysage toute la magnificence d’une composition créatrice. Entre un arc rocheux creusé par l’érosion et une piscine naturelle, nos cœurs balancent, mais notre intrusion ne peut être que temporaire, la marée descend encore et si nous ne voulons pas être bloqués sur notre arche perdue, nous devons rejoindre Blacky ! Sagement, dans un mètre cinquante d’eau, il nous attend, et là, aux pieds de ses quilles, un tapis de moules revête le fond sableux ! Notre gourmandise ne peut résister à la cueillette d’une réserve alimentaire et en moins d’une heure, juste avant de changer de mouillage pour la nuit, nous récoltons trois kilos de ce comestible mollusque. Il y a quelques années, il aurait fallu bien plus qu’un petit clapot pour nous faire bouger mais l’âge étant ou peut-être l’expérience, font que nous allons nous ancrer à 7 milles de là, pour éviter une nuit chaotique ! Cyril n’en peut plus de rigoler, au montage de sa prochaine vidéo, chaque réplique qu’il ajuste judicieusement avec des scènes culte, l’esclaffe de rire. Faut dire aussi, qu’il est fier de sa blague mon capitaine ! Vous vous rappelez celle du vol de l’annexe de nos voisins ? Il va s’en rappeler de celle-ci et le connaissant il va même vouloir réitérer, mais avant, mon ptit Tchoupi doit vraiment se pencher sur le problème de notre moteur qui continue de s’étouffer ! N’étant pas certain à cent pour cent de la panne, il examine et se livre à des conjectures. Nous en étions restés sur l’hypothèse d’un encrassement des cuves, s’ajoute à cette supposition, une éventuelle détérioration de la pompe de gavage ou encore la possibilité d’une prise d’air par la vis de purge cassée au niveau du filetage ! Les interprétations pouvant être nombreuses, mon capitaine se laisse encore le temps de la réflexion avant de résoudre le souci, espérons-le, lorsque nous serons à Tanga. Qui aurait pu penser que nous nous ferions contrôler ici ? Et pourtant, isolés, loin de la ville, entre mangroves de ....
