As a family who refuse to let Coronavirus stop us travelling full time, we have sparked a bit of interest in mainstream media lately. Both Newsweek and Lonely Planet commissioned travel writing from us and we were interviewed by the lovely Anna Louise from BBC Radio Kent who invites 'adventurous, inspiring, outdoorsy guests' on to her radio show to talk about their life. So, this is a slight departure from our usual format, but as we've recently hit a 10,000 YouTube milestone and it's coming up to our 3rd travel anniversary we thought we'd take the opportunity do a bit of a retrospective - showing our transition from land to sea and our experience of sailing the Mediterranean over the last three years. Is Sipadan Island in Malaysia really worth diving? Is it the best in the world as people claim? Given the island's location in the coral triangle and it's orientation just above an 1800 foot drop to the continental abyss, the marine life should be outstanding and prevalent. We had the privilege of diving Sipadan Island in the middle of February 2020. In the planning of the trip, we could not find any information about the pros/cons of diving Sipadan vs. Mabul/Kapalai, does Sipadan only have big stuff or is there macro too, is it expensive, etc. We had a lot of questions, but we could not find any direct answers. So, we decided to assist those who travel to Sipidan after us by providing information and ratings (out of 10) in four areas: 1) the day trip to Sipidan (what's it like, what do you do, how is the experience), 2) the BIG STUFF you MIGHT see, 3) is there any macro?, 4) What is the benefit-cost ratio? and finally our recommendation for how many days we suggest diving at Sipidan. Nordhavn 47 SEABIRD has traveled north to Alaska, spending a couple of years in the Northwest before heading south back to California, on to Mexico and then exploring central America. Cutting through the Panama Canal they ventured through the Caribbean and then used Florida as their stepping off place to sail eastward. SEABIRD crossed the Atlantic on her own bottom. Two glorious years were spent cruising the Mediterranean before shipping back to the US as on deck cargo aboard a freighter due to other commitments. A veteran of four different summer trips to Alaska and extensive cruising that included ocean passages, island hopping and exploring remote coves and isolated shores. She eventually meandered back to their home port of Santa Barbara, an appropriate and special home for this wonderful trawler. Since 2012, SEABIRD has enjoyed a more coastal lifestyle with many adventures along the US west coast, the California Channel Islands becoming the preferred location to get away. SEABIRD has travelled more than 40,000 miles. The international appeal of this, “the largest small Nordhavn”, found a growing market in Europe and Australia. With her Village Marine 600 GPD water maker, generator and air conditioning, abundant storage for provisions and Sub-Zero refrigeration and freezers you can anchor remotely and enjoy life away from civilization for extended periods of time. This episode sees Luca ascend Polly's 60 foot mast to inspect the anchor light. We suspected that it was an incandescent bulb which consumes alot of power however it turned out to be a warm coloured LED. We travel up the waterways in Marmaris to get yacht parts and supplies then back to Polly for more yacht work. Our Bavaria door latches keep breaking so there's a regular repair and we check that our diesel tank level is as it shows in the fuel gauge. Taking Lucy for a walk on the beach at our anchorage we find that its covered in rubbish and plastic so along with some other cruisers we collect 7 bags and feel happy to leave it looking clean. ........................................................................................................................... Danach geht es nur ein paar Seemeilen in die Bucht Uvala Gradina um uns dort für die Überfahrt nach Lastovo fertig zu machen. Auf Lastovo machen wir dann in der wunderschönen Bucht Jurjeva Luka halt. Diese traumhafte Bucht besticht nicht nur durch Ihr kristallklares Wasser, sondern auch durch ihre interessante Militärgeschichte.
