Here's a great easy cake that goes well with any occasion. SULTANA CAKE 2 ½ cups flour 2 ¼ cups sultanas, raisins, and dried cranberries 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 cup butter – softened 3 eggs 2 teaspoon almond extract 1 teaspoon baking powder Boil sultanas in water, then simmer 7 minutes, strain, add butter and almond extract, then cool. Beat sugar and eggs together. Sift flour and baking powder into sultanas, add to eggs. Bake 75 minutes at 300°F. Keeps for 1 month wrapped wax paper then newspaper. music: www.bensound.com

A flavorful hearty combination of lentils, brown rice and barley cooked in the pressure cooker. Note the following recipe is for half the amount I show in the video. MIDDLE EASTERN LENTIL STEW 3 cups water ½ cup lentils ½ cup brown tice ½ cup barley ½ cup raisins or currants ½ cup mint – chopped 2 onions – chopped 2 garlic cloves – chopped 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 tablespoon vinegar 1 teaspoon cumin 2 t sugar ½ teaspoon cardamom salt and pepper Sauté onions and garlic, add remaining ingredients except raisins, mint and salt and pepper. Well this is it, after only three months of coastal sailing and short island hoping around Spain the time has come for us to make our first big offshore sail to Sardinia in Italy on our way to Talia’s winter berth in Sicily. In this episode you will watch us struggle with seasickness for the very first time, rough seas and variable winds on our 200 mile journey from Menorca to Sardinia. I have to admit, there were times in this crossing where I had visions of selling the boat as soon as we made landfall, it was a gruelling experience for both of us. We've had a few disasters on board this week, but at least the long list of winter jobs to do has begun, we also cover the last race of the season into Venice lagoon with almost 200 boats on the start-line. So that was spectacular! We manage a trip out on a classic wooden Venetian boat with JP from Classic Boats Venice which was lovely. Judy was away from the boat for a while so I took the opportunity to fit a new communications system that gives us Wifi throughout the boat that can get its feed from either the marina Wifi or Mobile broadband. It's a much more powerful and well build version of the 'Wirie' that we previously had which died in the summer. This one is made by Digital Yachts and seems very well built. We will have to wait until we are off-shore to see how well it keeps us connected. Meaning, it’s messy! We use lots of different glues and sealants as we time-lapse the rudder bearings back in the boat. We also add an extra fiberglass layer, with the help of Beasley Marine making them extra secure offshore. https://www.beasleymarine.me/ - Their website is lame, but their composite work and knowledge are top-notch. If you need composite, fiberglass repair, or carbon fiber work done on the east coast, Mike Beasley and his experienced team are highly recommended! 2:47 Rudder Installation We slide the rudder back up into the boat. Carefully aligning it. We narrowly miss the wind generator with the travel lift as we maneuver the boat over the rudder. The rudder quadrant, steering cables, and autopilot are bolted in and tested. 5:38 Roxy the Sailing Dog Meets a Deer We took Roxy for a walk in the local park. She saw a deer for the first time. She was a bit confused, and we think she thought it was another large dog that she could play with. It was really funny watching her try to jump and play with the whitetail deer. 6:15 Mast Mods and Installation We modified the carbon fiber mast and rig to include a removable Dyneema inner forestay. This would allow us to have a cutter rig when we wished, and change back to a sloop as needed. A staysail jib which will also double as our storm headsail is hanked on and flies in high winds, or with double headsails when reaching. Once again, we enlisted the professionals at Beasley Marine for this composite work. 7:43 Back Together and In the Water We finally get the boat back together and the travel lift comes to launch the boat on a cold November day. This is the last of our sailing for the season. We have one day of sailing left until we reach our final destination for the summer to San Carlos, Mexico. For the last day of sailing it is complete with a visit from whales and one of the largest gatherings of dolphins we have ever seen. So much sea excitement in one day is a perfect way to end our sailing season. We are excited to have completed another incredible journey. In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. While enjoying the paradise of the Whitsunday Islands, life threatening storms engulf Alba Dash and we hide for cover. Kids camping on the beach are at risk and attempted rescue is hampered by engine failure while sheets of lightning flash overhead and down to the water. By the next morning, paradise returns as if nothing had happened!!! Share the excitement....

Today Fabio is sharing how he cooks the delicious #Cacciucco Livornese, an Italian seafood stew from his mom’s hometown, Livorno, Italy in our #catamaran galley. Because the traditional #seafood ingredients weren’t available Fabio improvised with what he could find locally, including the Florida rock lobster which we caught! In the future we hope to #catchandcook more of our food. 😊 Below you will find Fabio’s recipe and another traditional recipe that includes onions and red wine. Don’t forget to like this video and subscribe to come along for the journey. :) Fabio’s Recipe from the Video: Yield: serves 6-8 Ingredients 1⁄4 cup extra-virgin olive oil Bunch of fresh sage leaves 2 hot red chile 3 cloves garlic (leave whole so the garlic doesn’t burn) One octopus, cleaned and cut into tentacles 4 Red Mullets (or whatever small fish you can find) 12 oz. mussels, scrubbed and debearded 1 large Snapper head 2 Rock Lobsters 12 oz Pomi (or other strained tomatoes) 2 tbsp. tomato paste Ground black pepper, to taste Salt only if needed Italian ciabatta bread Instructions Heat oil in a 6-qt. saucepan over medium heat. Add sage, and 3 cloves of garlic, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add octopus, and cook, stirring occasionally. Once it has started making water add the strained tomato and paste, stir well, season with pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, about 20-25 minutes in total. While the octopus is cooking, steam the red mullets and snapper head together for about 5 minutes until cooked. Remove the meat from the bones and keep off to one side. Strain the remaining broth and save until the end. Par boil the lobster tails for one minute. Then remove the shell from the lobster tail and chop the meat into bite size pieces. After the octopus has cooked for about 15 minutes add the mussels and cook for 5-10 minutes or until they open. Add the lobster. Cook for a couple of minutes. Taste it to see if it’s done. Add the fish and a little bit of the fish stock. Stir together e voila, the cacciucco is finished. Slice crusty Italian bread, (we like ciabatta from Gran Forno in Ft. Lauderdale) and toast it in the pan. Once toasted rub the bread with garlic. Place the bread in a shallow bowl and ladle the cacciucco onto the bread. Enjoy with a glass of fabulous red wine! By the way, cacciucco is the only Italian word with 5 C’s. Traditional Recipe Yield: serves 6-8 Ingredients 1⁄4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1 tbsp. minced parsley Half an onion chopped Bunch of fresh sage leaves 2 hot red chile 3 cloves garlic 12 oz cuttlefish cleaned and cut into 1″ pieces One octopus, cleaned and cut into tentacles 1 tbsp. tomato paste 1 cup red wine One cup chopped tomatoes with juice Ground black pepper, to taste Salt only if needed 1 monkfish, cut into 2″ pieces 1 rock fish cut into 2″ pieces 1 piece dog fish or conger heel 12 oz. large shell-on mantis shrimp 12 oz. mussels, scrubbed and debearded 8 slices (1″-thick) country-style white bread Instructions Heat oil in a 6-qt. saucepan over medium heat. Add parsley, sage, chile flakes, and 4 cloves garlic, minced, and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add octopus, and cook, stirring occasionally, about 20 min. Add tomato paste, stir well, and cook until paste has darkened slightly, about 1 minute. Add wine, and cook, stirring often, until the liquid has evaporated, about 20 minutes. Add tomatoes along with their juice, season with pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, until seafood is tender, Add monkfish, dog fish, rock fish and cook, covered, until just firm, about 5 minutes. Add Mantis shrimp to the pot and scatter mussels over top. Cook, covered, without stirring (so as not to break up the seafood), until the fish is barely cooked through and the mussels have opened, about 10-15 minutes. Toast bread, and rub with garlic to taste. Place stew over bread. Dieses Skin-on-Frame Segelboot haben wir selbst gebaut und fahren es unwahrscheinlich gern. Auf der Mecklemburgischen Seenplatte haben wir es auf die Probe gestellt, was es aushält und das war eine ganze Menge. Bei Windstärke 4 konnte es immer noch gut mithalten.
