He talks about diving with Great White Sharks in Guadalupe, Mantas in Socorro and Gray Whales in San Ignacio. We have included the full Q&A session as well, plus our draw for 2 great prizes. Congratulations to the winners.
A sneak peek at the next video
Just days away from the America's Cup World Series and the Prada Christmas Cup we're starting to get hints of what might be in store as teams head out for some informal practice sessions and OMG! With potential closing speeds of 115mph (185kph) it is perhaps not that surprising that teams are taking things carefully, but it's also quite clear that these machines are absolute weapons that are as fragile as they are fast and that we're about to see a unique style of racing as the Cup raises the bar. From Auckland, Matt Sheahan takes a look at why the America's Cup World Series matters, what we can expect from the teams, how they may use this opening round and what we should read into the racing ahead.
In this weeks episode we find ourselves no longer in the Tyrrhenian Sea as we cross the Messina Strait. We encounter the swordfish fisherman on their very abnormal looking boats as well as a ton of messy whirlpools. As we enter the Ionian Sea we are greeted by a ton of different dolphin pods, it really doesn't get much better than this. Nat finds herself enjoying her new found treasure (somebody else's trash) and James continues to try out his luck with fishing. Towards the end we finally make the jump to Corfu, Greece! So excited for the new adventure.....although it may seem that the adventure and drama unfolds earlier than we thought with an unexpected visit out on the open water and in the middle of the night! It would not have been the same without you. This episode was filmed in 10 / 2020. — Welcome to Untie The Lines! my name is Nike, I bought an aluminum 37 foot sailboat in Panama in 2013 that I named KARL. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, Paul, Luca and I go on a Little dinghi excursion to a beautiful small island close to our anchorage Espiritu Santo (Panama). We snorkel but unfortunately we find find nothing to eat underwater. Back on board, I tackle a boat repair project, building a new hatch cover for my aft cabin. Since it’s rainy season, I have to take a bottle break from my outside project and decide to build a cute woven shelf basket from recycled ocean plastic. Check out @inmoceanorg or www.in-mocean.org for more about our recycling ocean trash project. Enjoy and Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Start with part 1: https://youtu.be/z1ou2HpDELc In the wake of our failed experience crossing the Atlantic on a big motor yacht (watch this: https://youtu.be/SFOVyf7q--s and this: https://youtu.be/q_R3WJAOWWA for context) we felt that our experience was full of many learning opportunities that we wanted to share with you. As a former pilot (F16s were on the list), pilot instructor and aviation consultant (risk management being one of the domains Ryan teaches), we really wanted to take this opportunity to share his knowledge about risk management. And because the topic of risk management at sea can also be called “seamanship”, we brought in our role model when it comes to just seamanship: the one and only Andy Schell from @59 North Sailing. In this first part of our two-part series on risk management, we talk about basic concepts of risk management such as the Reason’s Swiss cheese Model and the acronym PAVE (Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment and External pressures) as well as due diligence. In the second part of the series, we will break down the 4 letters of the acronym PAVE and look closer at “when is it time to bail out”. We hope that you find this series interesting! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** JOIN THE CREW! ** Join our virtual crew of Patrons at: https://www.patreon.com/ryanandsophiesailing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). It's not always glamorous when living on a boat and even though we are finding ourselves in an amazing anchorage with 360 degree protection, walking trails, wild berries and no lobster pots the weather is getting COLD and we’re wearing foulies inside :P so Brian decides it's time to finish the heater project!! The other side of cruising in remote places is the nearest store is a 6 mile dinghy ride away so Brian goes on a full day mission to find us some food and encounters pretty bad conditions between the two islands, battling high winds and waves breaking all over our fresh groceries. But such is the cruising life.... Hope you enjoy this glimpse into what it’s like to live as a family on a boat. BIG hugs from us! Ahoy, it's time to leave. time for cruising again. In this episode I take you on a trip down the coast of mainland Mexico with stops in Topolobampo, Mazatlán and Isla Santa Isabel. When I approached Isla Isabel and saw the huge amount of seabirds circling over the green island all my expectations were multiple times over fullfilled. One of the best things cruising on a sailboat is the slow arrival and with every miles closer to your destination you can see more and more details about it which in my case we're more and more birds on a very green & lush island. I felt like I space traveled to an entire new and different place. I'm still on my own on this trip but as soon as I reach Banderas Bay, that will change❤️ Aloha fay + christian please send us a like and subscribe to our channel.. mahalo if you feel like supporting this project and our videos, here is your chance.. http://www.sy-zero.de/wp/spend-us-a-drink/ please support us and become a Patreon..: http://www.patreon.com/sailingZERO find more Videos and Information about ZERO or get in contact with us here..: ..our blog: http://www.sailingZERO.com ..facebook..: http://www.facebook.com/syZERO ..instagram..: http://instagram.com/sailingZERO ..google +..: http://plus.google.com/u/0/+SYZERO/posts syZERO Music by www.Audionautix.com, www.Bensound.com, www.purple-planet.com and others.. Brett's back but only for 24 hours and then we have to hit the road for the next round of training...this bit of fiberglassing is going to be nuts. Thanks for watching- With love The Evans' **************************************** *Our Boat* 2008 Beneteau 49 3 cabin 2 head 4JH4-TE Westerbeke generator Mast, sails and rig are in excellent condition and in storage Here's what we *think* we know about her past. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Thanks for the bikini Bobby! I know it's YOUR birthday, but funnily enough, I end up with the gift. During our time in Annapolis, in mid- October, we decide to get on a few more boats. Being invited out by a few of our Patrons, we go inspect one of the Seawind 1160 Lites, in a mini show being held by Sail Away Catamarans. We have the chance to inspect the layout of one of these boats, and see what it's like to have dual outboard engines instead of an inboard diesel. Plus, we have the opportunity to take it out for a test sail on the Chesapeake to see how she handles. Then, it's time to go for a pleasure cruise with a few of our friends. The couple that is hosting us in town, Jeff and Cam, have a Catalina 36, which they're preparing to take cruising soon. Using a beautiful weekend - as well as a friend's birthday- we take these excuses as a reason to make the 25 mile sail down to the town of St. Michael's. Once we get there we reunite with our friend Bobby of s/v Sailing Doodles. Check out Bobby's channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkDwexrF43p_1QurfKFBCBA Much love from Annapolis! SOMEHOW, our NEW LIFE PLAN turned out to be the perfect escape from the EVENTS of 2020. We left to SAIL THE WORLD in 2019, and then... And like most of the world, it was definitely far from smooth sailing for quite a while. Thanks so lockdowns and travel restrictions, we almost found ourselves in no mans land, with no hope of getting to our planned hurricane season destination of Grenada. But thankfully, the pieces fell into place and we DID make here. And now we often look around us, then see the state of the rest of the world (specifically the US) and realize that we're in pandemic paradise! Thanks to the lockdowns, Grenada has always been and remains virtually Covid-free. Aside from wearing masks in stores and getting a temperature taken upon entering a restaurant, it's pretty life as usual. And in some of the more remote corners of the islands (Grenada and Carriacou), even the masks are mostly forgotten. Again, there are literally no cases of Covid here and when any pop up, they track down the source and any contaminated people and barrage them with testing and quarantine. The result? It may have been a tough road here, but we feel like we're in the most Covid worry free spot in the world. This week we take you around to some of our favorite spots AND do some epic hiking to the 7 Sisters waterfalls. Enjoy!! And be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT EVERY FRIDAY! Cheers!! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love
Seawind 1600 Catamaran Sailing Performance in Key West, Florida | Harbors Unknown Ep. 9 This week we head out to the waters by Key West for the #SeawindCatamarans Rally “friendly” race day. We had 10 people on board. A mix from Seawind, #SailAwayCatamarans and boat industry professionals from Annapolis. We were all excited to see how the #Seawind1600 performed against the 1160, 1190 and 1260. If you'd like to see more specific performance data on the 1600 watch this video next: https://youtu.be/FH-5X-eXv4Y. Or watch this playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCwNmkqXr8562e564Xf2Ih6i-VSvG9POu for performance in strong winds with gusts to 28 knots and lighter wind at about 12 knots. Near what we thought was the end of the race we went wing on wing and gained a lot of speed. However, we realized that wasn't the end and we had to turn downwind around the marker longer than necessary to jibe. It took a while to retrieve the screecher and resume course towards the final marker. We lost a bit of ground here. We crossed the finish line in third place and knew the error that lost us the race was not knowing the course, lol. I suppose we’ll pay better attention next time. What’s more important is everyone had a great time! If you like this video give it a thumbs up, subscribe and we’ll see you next week! Please leave any questions or feedback in the comments below. :) If you're new here, we are Kristin + Fabio Potenti and we moved aboard our Seawind 1600 catamaran Wanderlust with our French Bulldog Yoda on Labor Day. We didn't move far, really, we moved onto our boat across the canal from the home we sold at the end of May, mid-Pandemic. We’re a couple of dreamers, with a longing to explore the world’s natural wonders, food and cultures. To live by the wind, current and the sun. We’re looking for adventure and freedom in Harbors Unknown, planning to eventually sail around the world, but for now, we’re starting in our own backyard.
