In this episode I am heading back South from Meat Cove (not in this video) staying on a scenic route driving through Sugarloaf, Dogville, stopping by Keltic Lodge... enjoying the scenery... =================================================== ABOUT ME Back in 2019 I decided I did not want to be a 9 to 5  type guy anymore.  I got fed up with this rat race like routine city life and I got hooked on the idea of sailing and living on a boat full time. But with 0 (zero) expirience that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of videos about boats and sailing on youtube and got myself registered with dozen boat related forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Sergey was looking for a crew to bring his boat to the Caribbean. I travelled 1300 km from Montreal to Halifax to join him on his boat. The trip was cancelled two months later for legitimate reasons.  Since I made my way to Nova Scotia I decided to discover this beatiful province before going back to Montreal I have not given up on my dream of sailing. Because of this Corona virus situation in the world It is just put on hold... We're not ALL-IN sort of people... we didn't quit our jobs, and drop everything to sail around the world, and we weren't prepared to take on a full-time "bring it back to life" sailboat. However, we were prepared to move and live aboard a boat while doing some work on it. "What we wanted was a boat with projects, not a project boat", said Michel in Ep.0: An introduction to us....and after a week aboard SV Northern Reach, a 1983 Whitby 42, we find our list of boat TO-DO's is growing at quite the rate! We discover that our club (National Yacht Club) has a boat owner's dream workshop!!! Sanders, grinders, planers, routers, drill press, band saw, table saw, and a bunch of other tools we cannot name. With Michel working long hours at work and COVID keeping Talia's pilot schedule light, she takes the reins on a few projects and learns that a mitre saw plugged in is MUCH more powerful than the 20V saw she's used to. Typical of boat projects, each project is taking more time and patience than expected, and with each project more is discovered in the under belly of this seemingly beautiful sailboat. In fact there are so many projects that Part 2 may be in order- this is just the beginning!

Hobie QuickStart videos are intended to be a quick way to get you on the water with the basic info for setting up your kayak for the first time. This video shows the Mirage Passport 12.0 but also covers the Passport 10.5. We cover completing the installation of your MirageDrive GT with Kick Up fins, installing and using your the rudder, building and adjusting your paddle and a few other key features to know before you hit the water. New for 2021 both Mirage Passport models come with Hobie's MirageDrive GT with Kick Up Fins. GT stands for Glide Technology and features roller bearings in all the major moving surfaces, these bearings reduce friction and improve efficiency. The Kick Up Fins have the ability to kick back and up when contacting the bottom or any solid obstacles, these allow you to pedal in shallow areas without worry of causing damage to the fins or your drive. Also new for 2021 is a second set of plug in scuppers located under the seat bottom. These extra scuppers allow the seating area to drain faster and allow a second location to use Hobie's Plug-In carts. By locating the cart further toward the center of the hull it better balances the weight and makes transport even easier. Both Passports received a new 8" center hatch design that is more intuitive and easier to use.

From ringframes to rollover. Watch the hull build of the Spirit R30 day sailor. Unlike other Spirits, the Spirit R30 is the first yacht to use flax and bio resin in her build, which is an exciting development in the continuing drive to lower the carbon footprint of all Spirit yachts. The hull was constructed using Sipo Mahogany ringframes overlaid with Douglas fir planking, all from sustainably managed forests. Instead of a fibreglass external skin, flax material was bonded to the hull using a new bio-based epoxy by PRO-SET®. The hull was then rolled over ready for internal fit out.

Sailing LAID Back Lagoon LIFE in the Marshall Islands LAID Back Lagoon LIFE- Ailuk atoll, Marshall Islands Ailuk atoll, Marshall Islands This week, we start our lagoon life at Ailuk atoll! We were given permission to travel to Ailuk Atoll to deliver essential food suppliers on behalf of Mayor Typhoon, so along with Mark and Angie, the crew from our buddy boat 'Uno Mas' , we waste no time in dropping off lots of flour, rice, sugar, coffee and spices, before sharing a drinking coconut and morning tea with locals ,Pumpkin and Emily We spend time diving within the lagoon where we sadly discover the much of the coral has been badly damaged and bleached, but we do see a couple of schools of fish and have a really relaxed swim-by from an eagle ray, We also enjoy a beach picnic and sundowners with the crews from 'Forever' and 'Offshore Haven'.
