Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed a Lagoon 380 named "Honeymoon" halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences with family and friends via YouTube, and by happenstance created one of the earliest sailing channels still posting. We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with our kids. OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. It was designed and built to withstand the stress of "sailing multiple times around the world safely and in comfort." And yes, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then through the Panama Canal. Conciliar as velejadas em familia e a participação em regatas foram determinantes para colocar no topo nossa preferência por um Ranger 22. Um projeto muito bem construído, possibilidade de pernoite para 4 pessoas e rápido. Quase compramos dois mas o destino tinha reservado outra oportunidade mais adiante. Soubemos que o ex Comodoro do Yatch Clube Paulista havia colocado o Bonaire a venda, mas o Fabio Gameiro do canal Velejar é vida já estava negociando e não quisemos atravessar e prejudicar, decidimos esperar. In this episode I came to Louisburg (on Cape Breton island)... I drove along the main road of this little town and checked out the waterfront as well as community fishing facilities, then I went on to visit the Louisburg fortress which was futher away, outside this town... =========================================== ABOUT ME Back in 2019 I decided I did not want to be a 9 to 5  type guy anymore.  I got fed up with this rat race like routine city life and I got hooked on the idea of sailing and living on a boat full time. But with 0 (zero) expirience that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of videos about boats and sailing on youtube and got myself registered with dozen boat related forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Sergey was looking for a crew to bring his boat to the Caribbean. I travelled 1300 km from Montreal to Halifax to join him on his boat. The trip was cancelled two months later for legitimate reasons.  Since I made my way to Nova Scotia I decided to discover this beatiful province before going back to Montreal I have not given up on my dream of sailing. Because of this Corona virus situation in the world It is just put on hold... With no autopilot but with cyclone season approaching, we make the call to head south for summer. Leaving Great Keppel Island behind we embark on our first overnight voyage on Nakama with an estimated 70 hours at sea hoping to get back to Tangalooma. Things don't go exactly as planned and we find ourselves pulling in behind a burning Fraser Island. Looks like we are going to have to navigate our way back through the Sandy Straits and face the Wide Bay Bar again. Sobeida is the director the Ministry of Tourism in Luperon, but how does she spend her time off? She really tries to make all of the cruisers here feel at home. In our case, she invited us to her home to learn how to make a favorite local food. Arepas originated in Central/South America. Sobeida learned how to make them with her own personal style. Now, Luperon has a food that is not available anywhere else on earth.

Saw The LIght & Felt The Boom! Thursday, December 10

Learning as I go I am trying my luck at re-configuring my mainsheet setup. This means making several holes in the deck for various new fittings, while trying to figure out what i'm suppose to be doing. Summer Breeze is a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 29.2 and her original mainsheet was connected to an eye at the end of the boom to a deck eye just in front of the helm. This has always been a pain because it's right in the middle of the cockpit in everybody's way. Moving to the German Mainsheet system gets the connection point out of the cockpit and instead on to a traveller on the coachroof, it's then connected with various blocks to the mast, then led back to the cockpit, not very far from where it was before but very much out of the way! I'm using a Lewmar NTR pinstop track size 1, together with a Lewmar NTR car size 1. I'm using plain bearing blocks from Wichard together with a Spinlock deck organiser, Spinlock Mini Jammers and a Spinlock PXR Cam Cleat. This worked well to begin with but ultimately I changed the track to high beam after some experimentation, there's a follow up video here: https://youtu.be/8jEae7B0VnM

In my last film I show you how I moved to a german mainsheet system from a conventional end of boom setup. In this film I take a solo sail to test out the new mainsheet and see how it works. There are lessons learned along the way and eventually I found that the original pinstop NTR track began to bend, so I have since replaced this for Lewmar's High Beam track which avoids the need for additional re-enforcement along it's length.
