What's on our hull?! In this episode we haul out, see the the hull for the first time, and get taken across city streets--via remote control--to our spot in the yard!
Boris shows us the 3 capes's route: Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuween and Cape Horn. Sounds like 2/3 of the race is now down because he is passing the second cape out of three, but he still has more than 55% of the race ahead!
Showing you the highlights and the challenges of Boris’s last week 🌊
In the next 24 hours a high pressure to the NW of Boris will bring some light winds for him and the boats around him. It will allow the leaders the breakaway a little.

Back on board after spending 5 weeks family time in Germany, it's time to get ready to leave Tahiti again and sail back to the Tuamotus, as Cyclone season is starting! But... again we have some problems! Our outboard engine doesn't work really anymore, we need to find someone to fix it and get some diesel for Trampi to be ready to departure as soon as we find a good weather window. The weather is changing, and the longer we wait to leave the islands, the smaller the chances become for finding a good weather window. After three weeks of dodging storm front after storm front, we decide to make a dash for it, leaving the Abaco Islands of The Bahamas to cross the Gulf Stream back to Florida. The weather window we find is dotted with squalls. Without much experience in inclement conditions, we set off with across the Gulf Stream with fingers crossed. Hope you enjoy! This week we leave Grenada and our beloved windward islands, that's been our home for the last 10 months (!!), and we set sail for the five day long journey to Curacao. Hard to believe that we've been in the Caribbean for almost a year, but with all that has happen this year around the world, we feel very fortunate to have had the luxury and the privilege to sail around all these beautiful islands with our Covid-family. As we set sail Kieran can't keep the excitement inside, truly enjoying sailing again and being one with the sailboat. I (Isabelle) is feeling very emotional, my sister had some major news and a reflection about our dream life and missing out on family and friends come into play... Our biggest issue on longer passage; the autopilot, finally does he's job! A huge relief when we don't have to turn on the engine to charge the batteries, our 4 new solur panels and wind vane is working a treat! No more hand steering in the middle of the night! Join our crew! We are looking for new crew to join in the future journey. Season 7 : Episode #167 : The Breezy Anchorage of Johnson's Lee Hello Friends, On this episode we start the day after a very blustery night on the hook at Johnson's Lee on Santa Rosa Islands southern coast. After surveying the shore for a suitable place to land and finding no such place we returned to the boat just in time before the winds picked up. Finding ourselves not trusting the wind we busied ourselves onboard. Camille prepared 3 jars of fermented veggies and explains how to make Kimchi and Sauerkraut. Soon the winds increased and we watched our dinghy sailing in the air like a kite as we yawled on the anchor. Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon

The Ashely Stopper knot has a relatively large stopper which is super secure after applying a small amount of load to tighten. These characteristics make it a great choice when you are using thinner rope and are looking for a big stopper. Ashley's stopper knot, also known as the oysterman's stopper, is a knot developed by Clifford W. Ashley around 1910. It makes a well-balanced trefoil-faced stopper at the end of the rope, giving greater resistance to pulling through an opening than other common stoppers. Ashley developed this knot in trying to duplicate a knot he saw on a boat in a local oyster fishing fleet. When he had a chance to observe the knot up close at a later time he realised it was just a badly water-swollen figure eight stopper knot. The oysterman's stopper...It is a larger knot than the figure-eight, which has but one part around the stem. The oysterman's stopper knot has three rim parts, and these are quite symmetrical when viewed from the underside. From this view it closely resembles a three-strand wall knot. The end is nipped by a single top part. It is easy to tie and practical to use when the hole that is to be filled is too large for the figure-eight or either a single or double overhand knot. If you want to master more knots why not pick up a copy of the definitive book on knots. The Ashley Book of Knot has approximately 3900 different kinds, from simple hitches to “Marlinspike Seamanship.” Mr. Ashley has included almost everything there is to know about them. Precisely named and classified (some new ones for the first time officially), they can be easily found in the big index. He tells when they appeared, something about their history, and what they are good for. . https://amzn.to/3fkisle We hope you enjoyed todays video, thanks for stopping by and supporting Bottom up Boats, as an amazon associate we get commission from associated sales. Reports today out of Cape Town say that work on Sam Davies yacht will finish today and sea trials will be conducted tomorrow Monday and if successful her crew will leave the boats and she will resume her sail around the world tomorrow Monday. She will not be part of the race but it will be interesting to see if the VG people track her on the official race tracker and she will enter the race field just behind the tail enders. In front of her will be Jeremie Beyou CHARAL who has just caught up to Sebastien Destremau MERCI after he restarted nine days behind the fleet. CHARAL is passing Cape Of Good Hope as the leaded APIVIA is nearing Cape Leeuwin Australia. What a race he is having and keep watching our reports on how it will plan out. Some boats are having problems including NEWREST who is going to Cape Town with a loss of all computers making it blind sailing. We wish Sam safe sailing and who know she my beat her partner who is now ahead of her in the fleet.

In the lead-up race to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, Peter Harburg's Black Jack (in her first race after its thwarted trip to Monaco) led the fleet out of the Heads closely followed by Christian Beck's InfoTrack which had spent its time socially distancing in Newcastle. InfoTrack took out line honours followed closely by Black Jack. Looking forward to Boxing Day.
